"..... recruited vastly undersized players at nearly every position ....."

Nearly EVERY position? Were Lewan, Omameh, and Schofield undersized? Linebackers (like Mike Jones and Brandin Hawthorne), sure, but not too many other places. A couple of his smurf receivers (Gallon, Odoms) did pretty well. Better than Jaron Dukes (sorry, Jaron) has done so far.

"..... then there's the whole "lack of family values" accusation by Boren."

Are you seriously bringing this up? It was debunked a long time ago.

Nearly. Yes. That means almost every position. Not every position. We had Gardner as the only QB above 6'. We had Toussaint as our biggest running back and only back over 200 lbs. We had Jeremy Jackson and Junior Hemingway as our only +6' receivers. Can Gordon had to be moved from linebacker to safety once Hoke arrived because he was too small. No corners of any size. Had to move guys who played DT under RR to DE under Hoke because they were too small. Not that those guys did poorly or anything, but they were vastly undersized for their positions. Vincent Smith at 5'6" isn't going to do a whole lot. He wasn't exactly the shiftiest guy on the field either. Great kid. Hard worker. Loved him here. But he WAS undersized. Which was a common thing with RR recruits.

Stephen Hopkins was under 200 lbs.? Wow. He really had me fooled.

Forcier was listed at 6'1".

Cam Gordon moved from safety to linebacker under Rich Rodriguez.

Justin Turner was over 6'2" as a corner. Cullen Christian was 6'0". Demar Dorsey was 6'1".

Jerald Robinson was 6'2". Ricardo Miller was 6'4."

(This is not to imply that all of these players panned out, but it's simply not true that he didn't recruit players with size.)

The relative lack of people today, of course, means we can get that second, smaller smoker in there, so having the BBQ this weekend isn't all bad really. It's just that facilities (also, security) might go apeshit when there is smoke rising from the stadium on a day when there isn't supposed to be smoke rising from the stadium.

Saw we are looking at 3 kids from Saint Mary's and that Minnesota had additionally offered David Bowens son (also an OLSM kid).

Man I hope we are able to grab these kids.  Back in the 90's and early 2000's OLSM was a U of M factory.  Once Lloyd Carr left things began to change.  Dion Sims, Robert Bolden, Kalin Lucas, and Allen Robinson to name a few all decided against having anything to do with Michigan.

My belief is Ross is a shoe in (unless his brother is forced to try out for the team, lol), Hamler is 50/50.  It would mean a lot if we could get Hayes (ex-OLSM player currently at skyline) to give us another look and offer Bowens now.  His father is still the all time big ten freshman sack leader and great friends with Ty sr.

Seems like our focus has been on other Detroit schools of late (Brother rice, Cass, Harrisson, and King) However OLSM has 3-7 kids that are all pals and make up probably the best team in the state talent wise.

I would love to know what all of you think. Cheers and Go Blue!

Ross will have to try out for the team because, well, the entire team has to try out again for their respective spots. That's just how Harbaugh is operating right now. Frankly, I don't think that will be a deciding factor in the younger Ross' decision. I mean, if the kid is afraid of competing would you really want him in the first place?

Hayes would be a pretty great get but I think that ship has sailed. I haven't read any reports about Hayes being a priority for Harbaugh and staff and honestly, it may be better for them to focus on warmer prospects.

Idk the other OLSM so can't comment on them. But know that the best high school team in the state is still far and away from any college team.

James Ross is a fourth-year senior, so I don't think trying out will be an issue.

Cass Tech is more talented than OLSM, and it's probably not even close. Off the top of my head, they have Peoples-Jones, Vance, Onwenu, Kelly-Powell, Jordan Reid, Tim Walton, Donovan Johnson, Kalon Gervin, Dwight Blakey, Taeshon Trotter, Edrick Matthews, DeAndre Square, Xavier Goldsmith, and probably others I'm forgetting with FBS offers.

They probably should, but I think they come up against some teams that are a little more disciplined in the state championship games. The last two years, they've lost to Saline and Novi Catholic Central, two pretty good teams who are fundamentally sound, though not as athletic. There's more to being a championship football team than having the best athletes, which is why Northwestern, Purdue, and others have been able to compete in the Big Ten at various times.

I really appreciate your discretion.

Let me ask you a direct question.  If, in answering this question, you would hint at the nature of the non-public information you know, please just ignore this post.

Do you feel that Lavert Hill is still a realistic possibility for Michigan, or do you think that the ship has completely sailed?

He says he's 100% solid to Penn State, but I don't believe that. From what I gather, he's basically got a top three of Penn State, Michigan State, and Michigan in that order. I do think Michigan is an option, but I'm not sure if the coaching staff will continue to push for him.

Michigan FTW Again

Burgers, chicken, and dogs, and I'll also be grilling kielbasa. Budweiser, Heineken, and Kona Longboard for all! Won't be getting started until 3 or so, but thanks for starting the thread early!
