Official Saturday Morning Gameday Thread

Submitted by icefins26 on

Good morning all!  It's time for some football.  What's everyone eating, drinking, watching on this fine fall morning?  What are the plans for the game?  Discuss.  GO BLUE!

I've got the cofffee on, beer cold and the house to myself today for the game.  I'm happy.

Drinking Pilsner Urquell (it's 9:25 pm here) while watching Chelsea vs. Man City. About to eat sashimi with my wife once the baby falls asleep. I love 1 am kickoffs!

GO BLUE!

Finishing up packing the car for the tailgate. It's blueberry pancakes, eggs, ham, fruit, and sticky buns.

And, of course, liquid brain lubricant -- mimosas for breakfast!

up looking for internet advice on how to get her to attack the ball. She's faster than all five of the other kids on the squad (all boys) but just hovers on the edge of play and never tries to tackle anyone (as in, getting the ball). Don't know if it's an artifact of our games in the yard defending our respective goals or if she just isn't all that aggressive. Any advice appreciated.

Going to try to sneak in some peeks at the game while I help our coop move to a new location this afternoon. . .

Same problem though, attack that ball!

She's a fun-loving kid, who wants to "share" so much with her teammates that she isn't aggressive enough.

The best thing we have found so far is to tell her that part of playing the game, is to pretend that her team is the "good guys" and that it's ok to pretend that the other team is the "bad guys".

Of course she's only 5, so the brass knuckles won't be issued  til next year.

At age 5, my son wanted to kill the opponents in soccer and in our granola-eating town, wanting to win was sort of frowned upon! From what I've seen, for both boys and girls, aggressiveness is an innate quality. My daughter was the same as yours - athletically strong but not a lot of interest in scoring. My son, on the other hand, took it so seriously, you'd think every game was the World Cup.

Hopefully, the competitive fires will ignite and she'll get a taste of scoring and winning. Or not, and it will just be fun to run around with her friends.

Either way, Go Blue!

Its pretty simple actually.  I have coached youth soccer for 6 years now.  Does your daughter has a brother or sister?  If so, just tell her to envision all the other team members as her brother and there is no way you would let your brother keep the ball from you...... Would you?  It works everytime.

As for me, I have 2 games this morning (soccer), then is home with some beer and brats....

Hoping to see a lot of Fitz today......

Edit: Sorry read the rest of your post.  So yes use the sibling angle......

If shes the fastest kid on the team, you should get her to look at girls lax.

My little sister was the same way thru about 6thgrade playing soccer (really fast but uninvolved), so I taught her to play catch and she started to play lax.

The game is a lot more wide open and faster, and there arent many scrums for possession. Anyways, she loves it. And colleges love her (so far i think last count was 16 D1 scholarships on the table)

I am at home, going to do some work and then start pouring howebrew.

I just checked outside, and no way I can put up my gameday blow-ups. Too windy. I hope this does not harm the team's play.

And when they are on the sideline someone goes" you gotta camera on your helmet brah?" haha, that had me rolling. Also that fan vision was sweet, wouldn't mind having one of those for the tailgate.

I have to work today. I will still be able to watch the game though.

But I am taping it anyways and when I get home I’m going to re-watch the game while enjoying Leinenkugel Oktoberfest and Woodford on the rocks.

Go Blue!!!!!!!!!!

The boy has a football game I have to attend (official chain gang member so no bowing out)  The DVR will be on.  After the 5-6 year old game (funny shit watching those kids tackle each other), it will be whiskey all you want and no commericals.

It seems young to me too but it is amazing how much they improve and how much they pick up.  They just installed passing after 4 games and it actually works about 25% of the time.  Some coaches take it a little too serious for the age group....even have some coaches skirting the weight and age limits...Saban wannabe's.
