They seem genuinely happy about the game and glad that they drew Michigan instead of Nebraska--not because they fear Nebraska but because they dislike the arrogance of the Nebraska fanbase. Then somebody on one of their boards posted some comments from MGoBlog, and now they realize Michigan fans are (in their view) just as arrogant.

It'll be a great game with our defense and improving offense on full display. I'll eat wings like there's no tomorrow, and wash it all down with a few select beers. Great way to spend a Saturday night during vacation.

ought to look down and realize you're riding a pony these days. Michigan is a 7-5 team that came very very close to not being bowl eligible. I would not be whining about what bowl Michigan is not in - be thankful they are in one at all, and in one they can win. Plus, Kansas State is a respectable program as long as they are being coached by Bill Snyder.

.....because I live in PHX and tickets are going for $35.  I find it laughable that some Mich fans would choose to look down their noses at a matchup with K-State.  We are a shaky 7-5 team that hasn't been nationally revelant for a decade or more (outside of 2006).  Right now any bowl game, especially one that on the surface looks winnable, should put a smile on your faces.  The last thing we need is a new years day embarrassment at the hands of an SEC team.

I get we deserve this crap bowl, it just gets my hopes up when everybody earlier was throwing around Gator Bowl matchups with the SEC.  Hopefully Borges gets creative and the Oline holds up and we put a pounding on them to give some momentum going into next season.  Go Blue.

I was at the Big House for the Central and Notre Dame games, now the team is coming out here for the bowl game. I think they play better when I am in attendence. Come on out and visit.

I thought Nebraska was going and bought 17 tickets for the game last week...anyone interested in them?  Section 241 row 5 seats 12-18, row 6 seats 13-17, row 7 seats 13-17.

I'm selling them for $52.00/ea (pretty much face value) plus shipping.

You can email me at [email protected] if you're interested.  they print and mail on the 13th of Dec so I expect to get them on the 17th.

KSU grad and have watched most of their games this year. KSU has a pretty solid offense. They somewhat rotate qbs. One is a passer and 1 a runner. They make it pretty obvious what they will do by which QB is in. They also have legit WR's that can make plays. They are pretty shaky defensively and have had some injuries and UM should be able to move the ball. Should be a fun game. One thing is for sure is that Snyder will have them prepared and who knows with the Michigan staff. Should be a fun game.

Positives:

  • 13 mile drive to Sun Devil Stadium for me
  • KSU looks like a favorable matchup for us
  • I have tickets :D
  • Good exposure in the PHX area (great recruiting area)
  • BW3 trickeration
  • Better payout than Gator Bowl

Negatives:

  • 2nd straight year I'll be going to KSU's bowl game
  • KSU travels extremely well (they were at least 50/50 crowd wise with Oregon in the Fiesta last year)
  • Late start time give miminal exposure on the east coast
  • Missed opportunity to take down a wounded SEC team (LSU, Georgia, etc...)
  • If you're a vegetarian - free wings suck - enjoy that celery

C'mon guys, we finished 8th in a 12-team conference.  This is the bowl / matchup we earned with our 7-5 record that could have easilly been worse.  If PSU was bowl-eligible we wouldn't be going to this one.  Take a nap that afternoon, take the family out for pizza, then kick back after everyone's gone to bed and enjoy our last game till Labor Day Weekend 2014.

GO BLUE!

That's what I can't figure out—why did the Big Ten agree to slot the BWW Bowl ahead of the Gator? Sun Devil Stadium has a smaller capacity than EverBank, and the Gator has seen far better teams play in it over the years than the Copper Bowl/BWW Bowl.

On top of that is the fact that if we beat KSU, the college football world yawns and says "who cares" because KSU has no national juice, but if KSU wins, it'll be a program win for them and everybody will make a big fucking deal about one-time doormat KSU beating Michigan.

Snyder's proven that he's a damn good coach, and this game isn't a gimme.

Out of all the Florida locations, Jacksonville has the least tourist appeal. I've never been, but people complain about it all the time.

Except for the BCS #1 vs #2 game, these games are not based solely on ranking or fairness. They are based on tourist dollars. That's all that matters. Football is a sideshow to selling hot wings and hotel rooms at the Comfort Inn, along with making a nice fat no-show salarly for guys in ugly blazers.

All that said, it's UM football game, so I hope we win. It's a decent opponent, certainly capable of beating us. Hoke needs it the most (in a small way) to not have a worse record than last year. As far the team, we had a throughly mediocre (at best) season, so when that happens, you get the 15-20th best bowl. Sounds right to me.

you realize that KSU is, like, good right? Bill Snyder has a winning record against Texas for his career, has also had a great deal of success against the likes of Oklahoma and Nebraska and has a Fiesta Bowl win on his resume. They were playing Oregon in the BCS last season. Beating a 7-5 Michigan team will hardly be a "program win" for them. They're basically the Big 12's answer to Wisconsin. I also don't think we matched up as well against Georgia as people hoped and don't think beating them would have made any national impact anyway... down power beats down power isn't a headline you're likely to see on the front page of the New York Times.

The BWW Bowl gets selection preference in alternating years because the conference feels that having a bowl out west is valuable and wants to send a better team out there once in a while. This game will give us access to a whole group of M alums and fans who rarely get a chance to go to games in person... having your best teams go to Florida every single year is a negative long term, which is why we're moving away from that strategy after this year.

I just hope the players show up for it.  It really is what this season deserves, but I will feel alot better about it if the offense that showed up against Ohio comes out.  I really don't see KState beating us if it does and that will make everyone feel better heading into the offseason / next season.

Former UM QB coach and OC Stan Parrish was HC at KSU in 86-87-88. He inherited a dumpster fire, and kept it there, going 2-9, 0-10-1, and 0-11 in his three seasons. His replacement was Bill Snyder, who four years later in 1993 led KSU to their first bowl win. The bowl was the Copper Bowl, later to become the BWW Bowl.

I wonder how much Brandon politicked to avoid an opponent like LSU and secure an opponent Michigan can actually beat so he can blow sunshine to the mob this winter?

I am sure he was already preparing "We were one two-point conversion away from beating a team that went to the BCS title game!" lines to donors before yesterday.

RickAndScott

December 8th, 2013 at 11:30 PM ^

Bowls are all about backroom deals.

Brandon is drowning in his efforts to sell the path Michigan football is on, which explains his 1,000-word statement of grasps and reaches before the OSU game. He needs a win heading into this offseason and he knows Kansas State is more likely to oblige than Georgia, LSU or A&M.

The BWW Bowl selected before the Gator, who selected before the Texas Bowl and surely would have loved to pick Michigan if available.

Bowl selection is a schmooze-fest and source of favors between reps and ADs. I think Brandon wanted and needed the BWW to save his "ALL IS WELL" campaign since it would match us up with an opponent from a softer conference.

I posted this in a thread about a week ago, but BWW had the slot before the Gator. This means we were going to go to the BWW, as any second/third-tier bowl would be thrilled to have a 'name' team like Michigan.

I have no idea why people thought, after we lost to OSU, that we'd be going to the Gator.

Brodie

December 9th, 2013 at 3:02 AM ^

I think a lot of people were fooled by bowl projections into thinking we were going to play Texas if we made this bowl... that was never a likely scenario, even if OK State won the B12 and they only had one BCS team, the BWW would have simply selected Nebraska for a more compelling matchup. Once they were stuck with K-State, who travels well but played in Phoenix last year and doesn't move the needle on TV, we were the obvious choice.

BlueHills

December 8th, 2013 at 11:29 PM ^

K State may not be a team we often think about, but this will not be an easy game.

Remember, we lost 4 out of our last 5 games. They won 5 out of their last 6. So they improved over the season at a greater rate than we did.

I think this will be a pretty difficult challenge, and I don't see why Tempe is somehow a less desirable venue than Florida.

Should be an interesting matchup.

what people were expecting.  A shitty bowl game to end a shitty season seems just about right.  Anyone claiming this will be an easy win is crazy.   Nothing is an easy win for this team.
