I was in the stands in 1991 when FSU came to Ann Arbor and laid that 51-31 butt-kicking on us in front of a national TV audience. It was embarassing - and I never got sick of anything as much as I got sick of that stupid tomahawk chant (or whatever the hell they call it).

So while this may not be the spot in the final four that we wanted, here's a chance for some payback that's been brewing for 25 years.

Go Blue.

I just can't get excited about this. This was our year. We are more than capable of beating any team in the country. It feels like 06 in the sense that a "big" bowl is a still a huge letdown. Hopefully we don't have to wait another 10 years for our shot.

Not even the Pac-12 runner up. Third place, just like FSU.

I am also honestly not sure anyone not from the Midwest really thinks there is a huge difference in prestige between the Rose/Sugar/Orange Bowls. All three are relatively ancient and have always been the destinations for major conference winners through all iterations of the CFB post-season. Just as many classic games have been won in Orange as the Rose if you take your B1G blinders off.

Yep. Unfortunately, losing two of our last three downgraded our post season prospects a bit. Still, we really need a win against FSU to restore some positive momentum to the program. So, all hands on board! Go Blue!

Stuff like this makes me question if people actually watch the games week in and week out.

That 2011 team felt lucky. This team felt great. That team was lucky to make a BCS bowl. This team is mildly disappointed to only be NY6. The 2011 VT team was ranked around 15 all season in a bad ACC, the Seminoles were projected to make the playoff and finished their season strongly in a good conference

The two are night and day.

3 weeks ago we were considered the #2 team in the country and a probable lock for the CFP.  Now, out and playing in now what has become a lower-rung bowl.  Yes, progress has been better than expected but the new goal is the national championship, not just the CFP.  Do you think JH is patting himself on the back over this?  This type of attitude has no place in this program.  We should no longer settle for "moral victories".  A famous person once said "Show me a good loser (ie-content) and I'll show you a loser".  No points for second place.

I was talking about the direction of the program and where it is in year 2 of Harbaugh. You can be disappointed about the result in the Game & not achieving the goal of winning the B1G and still be excited about where the program is going. JH may not be patting himself on the back, but he probably also isn't acting like a bunch of babies like so many posters in this thread.

This is only the beginning. People are acting like this was Harbaugh's last chance at a winner and the most talented team he is ever going to coach. This team is lacking talent on offense & it showed down the stretch.

And we were never a lock at an point in the season for the the CFP. The CFP bid was always going to come down to a 50/50 game in Columbus. Obviously disappointed Michigan didn't make enough plays to win and make the CFP, but it doesn't change the fact this is best bowl game Michigan has been in since 2006. It is an opportunity we missed out on for 10 years that I am surprised so many fans have quickly forgotten.

legitimatelybetter than UM this year.  Yes, O-line is mediocre, but we are also the 2nd best team in the country when we assess the entirety of the team, season, and schedule .

It would take an amazing game to upset Bama, but anything can happen.  Every other team has glaring weaknesses.  Our defense would keep us in the game with anyone.

FSU is a step down from what we wanted.

think you will find that the Orange Bowl is a better spot with the current arrangement. We lead off the major bowl games. People will be hungry for football, it will feel like a big game. The Rose Bowl is after the playoff AND after an NFL Sunday. Most people are going to be footballed out by Monday at 5. This year, the Orange Bowl is the better game to me. Florida State fans will show out. It will be a cool game. Not ideal, but not the Citrus Bowl.

I was there when they thumped us badly in the. If house many years ago. Payback after a couple of decades? Be great to beat a near home team here in recruiting heaven.

It's not some midweek Tuesday game on ESPN2.  We get the national stage to ourselves on a Friday night.  Every bar in America will have that game on.  Whatever the ratings are, they will be understated by 25%.
