Whoa... that was a killer last couple minutes. Nice to see USA pull it out! Odd note of the day: I watch TV with the closed captions on. At one point, the announcer said that there was a lot of hockey talent in the building, but the captions came up as "honky talent". I decided that's just as accurate. A Men's hockey match in Canada? Probably wasn't a black person anywhere in the building.

That's a crying shame too. I'm black and my stepson (who is white) and I took in a Wings game back in November and I could probably count in one hand with a couple of finger left over the number of blacks at the game. Black folks, ya gotta open your minds. Hockey is a hell of game. With that being said, that was a hell of a game. I have to admit Miller held it down pretty good.

I thought it would be hard to have any nationalistic pride with so many familiar names in the Olympics, Babcock coaching Canada, etc. But the minute they showed the first close-up of Crosby and then Rafalski scoring twice, I got sucked in big time. It's also cool rooting for players you normally wouldn't.

Whoever edited Wikipedia seems to think the US has clinched #1 seed overal....but that doesn't seem right as us and Finland have the same goal differential. So it seems to me, if Finland wins in regulation, they get #1, correct?

O Canada! We be you on your ice! True you had more shots, but Rafalski scored twice! With speedy glove Miller made the saves That kept us in the game. When you scored a goal, we answered back And beat you five to three. Swedes beat the Finns, giving us first seed. O Canada, we beat you five to three. O Canada, we beat you five to three!

I think Miller is the only Sparty I will ever root for. He does a lot of good work in Buffalo (which is almost as bad as Detroit)and seems to be an all around classy guy. Not to mention my wife is from Buffalo and is a huge Sabre's fan so I was kind of obligated to before now anyway. With that I have to say: USA! USA!

but here's a sampling from the GLobe & Mail's comments on the game: "It wouldn't matter who was in nets for Canada, Brodeur, Fluery, or Luong-choke. None of them is having a good year and the American and European goalies are simply better this year." "pronger is brutal, bench the guy" "This is one of the most important hockey games in 4 years! I hate to see it lost due to a goaltender that keeps wandering away from the goal and trying to play the puck! Please for the love of Hockey, pull Brodeur!!!" "the way Canada's been playing I don't think they could even beat the Leaf's." "Why is Joe Thornton on this team??? Why is he out there with 34 seconds to go and the net empty when he's too slow to get back and can't do anything in the corners??? We chose this guy over Jeff Carter and Steve Stamkos? Why is Babcock so stubborn, this San Jose Line is doing nothing rignt now. They bring to physical game and need to be benched, so what if they have chemistry, THEY CAN'T SCORE!!!" "Brodeur cost us at least 2 goals tonight. As far as I am concerned he played himself off the starting lineup. Team Canada needs to start crashing the night and burying their empty net chances. How can these multi-millionaire players keep missing the net? This was the capper to a brutal weekend for the Canadian Olympic effort. Own the Podium is dead."
