My thoughts:  Meh.

I liked the hidden 11 in the old logo, and hoped there would be one in this, but it's not terrible.

The second logo, a horizontal shortening, is awful and needs to be destroyed.

Your thoughts?

I'll go against the tide here and actually suggest that I like them.  And the division names.  Delaney said he wasn't going to single out any individuals or geographies with the names.  Maybe "Legends" is a little silly, but I think they are branding themselves as the most traditional and classiest conference and that is what these names are trying to signify.

I'm glad they dropped the silly little "negative space" 1 that was used to jokingly acknowledge that we had 11 teams.  If you want your name to be "Big Ten" forever, you should just give up on that kind of gag stuff.  I would however have avoided the short logo that suggests "B10" since I think the word "Ten" conveys less about the conferences members.

Best of all are the trophies.  I love that they acknowledged all the greats and those greats that we've inherited through Penn State and Nebraska.  How can this group complain when Ford, Schembechler and Woodson are all recognized?

I'm not sure there was any way for them to come up with good division names without using geography or former player/coach names like Bo and Woody.  I don't think the division names are great, but they coud have been worse.  Could have gone with "Stars" and "Stripes," which might literally have made me puke.  These are generic and most people will ignore them, which isn't ideal, but isn't overly embarrassing either.

[EDIT:  Agree that it's awesome Ford, Schembechler, and Woodson were all recognized by the awards.  And Desmond is recognized in the receiver of the year award, which wasn't mentioned in the broadcast.]

I'd also like to add that I like how balanced they were in that regard.  You can't be a strong conference if all you do is talk about the top tier teams.  Guys like Nile Kinnick, Amos Alonzo Stagg, Anthony Thompson, Bronko Nagurski... these names need to be kept alive.

They almost got the position trophies right as well.  Purdue acknowledged for their strong QBs, Wisconsin for their great runners.  Just needed to make the wide receiver award one that included Desmond and Braylon.  At least they got it right with MSU, recognizing their excellent contributions to the kicking game!

A little grumbly over not giving Tom Harmon his due.  Maybe that's just me being a cranky homer.

...Desmond Howard.  Or are you saying it should have been named after both Howard and Edwards?  I do absolutely agree that they missed the boat by not honoring Tom Harmon.

Here are the trophys named after Michigan Men:

Trophy Name Named for
Postgraduate Awards
Ford-Kinnick Leadership Award Gerald R. Ford, Michigan
Nile Kinnick, Iowa
Annual Awards/Trophies
Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year Bronislau "Bronko" Nagurski, Minnesota
Charles Woodson, Michigan
Hayes-Schembechler Coach of the Year Wayne Woodrow "Woody" Hayes, Ohio State
Glenn Edward "Bo" Schembechler, Michigan
Richter-Howard Receiver of the Year Pat Richter, Wisconsin
Desmond Howard, Michigan

I like the new Brandon Graham logo.  I'm not sure why they put a "1" in the middle, but it looks good.

Jokes aside, I think it looks fine.  Here is a link to some in-use images by Pentagram, the company that designed the logo.

Apparently, the Yale School of Architecture asked Michael Bierut to design their  "Structure of Light" poster... which turned out to be quite the spelling challenge for him as his original sketch spelled out "Strecture fo light".

And that, of course is something you always worth highlighting in your portfolio...

I don't mind the logos though I agree they look like something that was just thrown together in ten minutes.

But yeah, the names are awful, especially since they seem to relegate one of the divisions to the past.  And they give absolutely no help in differentiating one division from the other, which I think is the most important thing division names should be doing.  I doubt these names will ever be commonly used except in official publications, much like FBS and FCS.

Seriously, sticking with X and O, as BTN was provisionally using, would have been better.  Or East and West...even if it's not a strict geographic split, it's easy enough to remember that East is the one with PSU in it and West is the one with Nebraska.

The logo is simple, recognizable, and elegant. The division names are not unimaginative like "North" or "South", but actually mean something to our conference. The whole thing is very modern, which I really like.
