no Inge tonight
spoiler alert: i linked this
I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say this is do or die tonight for the Wings.
If we play like we did the last 2 periods on Sunday I like our chances. If we come out for another lousy first period, I don't.
Definitely a must win. The Wings can't go back to Nashville on the brink of elimination.
No inge means about 40 fewer comments on this thread
Are the Tigers not on?
And it took 15 minutes for them to give all 3 goals back... 3-3
I will miss his bat and cat like skills tonight.
Devils took a 3-0 lead less then 10 minutes in, but the Cats have now came back and added 2 powerplay goals later in the 1st and an equalizer at the beginning of the 2nd. Both starting goalies have been pulled.
I'm guessing that most of the fans of that Devils-Panthers series are probably Devils fans, but man I love that rat-throwing tradition in Florida. Such an awesome story behind that miraculous 96 run for Florida.
Game 1 level penalty calling. Doesn't look like were going to get much 5 on 5 hockey tonight....
Dammit, how about the guy holding Datsyuk??
Miggy is struggling, and why no mention of the Pistons, they are also play.......nevermind no one cares.
are actually up 23 on clevland at the half haha
ive been monitoring them all season, never really watching the games just looking at box scores and such, I know the NBA is an unpopular topic around here, but the pistons have had there moments this season where they look like a good team. As for tonight Cleveland is tanking the rest of this season for the draft, Brandon Knight is starting to look like a complete point guard, just need another big to complement Monroe and they could not suck next year.
haven't watched a Pistons game since they brought in AI. I just check up on them with the score center app from time to time
just checked, they are now up by 50...yes 50.
3 for 3 so far on the power play
This damn series is going to give me a heart attack
its not Raburn's birthday everyday.
WTF Leyland, Inge is on fire and you trot out mr. Ofer 23 to play Third. I just don't get it
You don't think you're overrea...
Oh. I see what you did there.
Nevertheless, FIRE LEYLAND!!!!!!
Anyone got a stream for the Red Wings game?
Miggy got a hit.
Can we never escape the Gongshow?
Im not watching, how bad did Smyly getting hit look?
edit: nevermind hes fine.
Single scores a run on an 0-2 count.
Fire Babcock shoulda started Ozzie
Should have started Inge in goal. Leyland would. He loves the matchup with all the lefty shooters in hockey.
Good point. Hoke prolly move Gardner to goalie since Bellomy has demonstrably locked down the 2 spot in the QB race
JB added Spike in this class just for the playoffs if he needed to fill in at goal
Comparing Det-Nash to other series, these have just been classic tight, defensive playoff hockey games. Physical but not overly chippy. The games aren't shootouts. Just struck me as interesting.
Holy Jumpin, what the heck is it gonna take for us to put one past Rinne?
Starting to feel like this is going to be one of those games that the Wings just absolutely dominate and lose on a fluke goal/ bad turnover type goal.
Rinne is killing me this series. Just can't crack him
Hopefully Nashville's puck luck runs out. A puck did get past Rinne, but another player cleared it off the line. Then Legwand covered the puck, no call (not that the Wings would have scored on the penalty shot).
Other games the few times he's been out of position on a rebound, someone blocked the shot.
We're up 28-10...
Marian Hossa is going off on a stretcher after a hit from Raffi Torres. Both benches are going back and forth with each other. Should get interesting from here.
Quenneville sounded irate. It's almost not safe to let Torres back in the game at this point. You know they are going to go after him.
This year's playoffs just gets more and more ridiculous.
That was a nasty hit! Very dangerous.
Fuck playoff hockey.
Haha, the refs bailed us out.
Damn it! Tigers and Wings offense is turrible!
I call my FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU back.
Holy shit it's about fucking time the "intent to blow the whistle" helped us out for once.
Holy crap Wings got lucky there!!!!
And Intent to Blow the Whistle rears its ugly head again.
Holy fuck! Other teams can have that called against them? It's not just the wings and Michigan!?!?!
I think that's the first time the Red Wings have ever said thank god for the Intent to Blow rule
Well, we caught a break. Let's take advantage of it.
Well that was a horrible call but that just might be the break the Wings need.
DAMMIT! AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHH!!! FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's ridiculous. Sometimes bad luck is bad luck. Like scoring at 20:00.01 of the period.
Let it be. exmtroj is notorious for being the first guy to deploy phrases like "fucking pathetic", "shitty-ass losers", "fuck this team" and other ambulance chasing phrases. He's not happy unless he can be a dick about losing.
Well the luck didn't last that long...
Can this one get overturned too?
I have never seen a stretch of hockey as dominant as the hockey the Wings have played over the past five periods. And yet...
Which is why I'm not a big hockey fan
No kidding. We dominated Game One, too, and lost because of two ridiculously fluky goals. Oh, and stupid Rinne.
GODDAMMIT!! THAT BETTER BE A GOAL!
I'm in a glass cage of emotion here guys.
Oh hell no that was a goal!
GOAL! If that doesn't stand up, then the world makes no sense. Which is why I'm nervous.
the camera says yes
That's the first time I've ever seen a call like that go in the wings' favor and then that happens fuuuuuuuu!
If this one goes against them I will explode.
Big 12 officials tonite..
I hate reviews. Mainly cuz Michigan seems to get the short end of the stick whenever they go to video.
But it worked out for me this time. WOOOOOOOO!!!
I was just waiting for something absurd to happen on the review: "after video review, the city of Toronto has lost power to a freak thunderstorm. The call on the ice stands, no goal."
I know that time was clear, but I still say the NHL should abandon mic's for the Refs. Just use a simple/wave point
Did anyone see Hossa get hit by Torres in the Blackhawks game? Left the ice on a strecher and now being loaded on ambulance.
DAMN SHIT ASS FUCK
Ummm...where the hell was jimmy going?
Not to mention the fact that three defenders followed the initial shooter and no one even attempted to pick up the trailing man. Just plain awful play all around.
What the hell were we doing there? Our defense was unbelievably out of position there!
What the hell? What the fuck? Ugh.
That was pretty horrible...
What the hell was Howard doing out of the net???
This team makes me so angry. Why did three guys follow one into the corner?
Wow, that was one of the ugliest goals I've ever seen.
Every fucking time we have a good break, stupid play screws us over. 3 guys after 1 player!?!?!?!?!?!
Ugh, that one's on Jimmy, mostly, and a little bit on having three guys covering one and still being unable to get the puck.
Howard obviously misplayed it. But he would have been hung out to dry anyways unless he could freeze the puck. A rebound was gonna go in no matter what.
Can't figure out which is more shocking -- the bad luck or the bad goaltending.
Luongo? If only we had a Schnieder...
This is his second year in the playoffs. Went 7 games against the Sharks last year and they had an upper echelon offense last year with all those weapons. They were deeper than we were at forward last year. He played well enough for us to win that series. We are not losing this current series against the Preds because of Howard. He's played well enough IMO.
Control then give up the cheapies.
I hate being the type of fan who gets mad when his team is losing, but this year, more than ever, we are in danger of going down 3 games to 1 to a team we haven't just dominated, but have outplayed, outshot and flat out beat. this is me throwing my hands in the air, squealing like a girl and simply saying NOT FAIR
gonna have to look for another goaltender after the season... jimmy howard is just not that good this year... WAY OUT OF POSITION
Dry as well - 3 men on the puck and no I've covering the middle. Not good defense, not just Howard.
He was PHENOMENAL before he got hurt this season. And he's not the reason why we're losing this series. Actually watch the games.
That goal was on Howard. No reason to go so far out of cage with three guys on him. It may have been a goal anyway, but he put himself way out of position...
Jimmy takes some of the blame, but the three Wings on one guy take a god deal as well. There is no reason for three guys to focus on one, it left two Preds cutting right down the middle wide open. The worst part one was Lidstrom who is supposed to be the smartest player at all times at all times. I am assuming that they weren't communicating at all on that play, that is the only reason i can think to as why three guys would follow one into the corner.
Horrible power play.
I always get nervous when we let Weber just tee off on the net
Why isn't there a Red WIng there when there's a wide open net!
Yeah this really is a shit fuckin sandwich Dick.
GOTTA make something out of this PP chance.
Seems like i have been thinking that all series, but yet the Wings don't seem to get the same memo.
Huge Power-play here. Could be a big chance to tie it up
Bone-headed errors killed the last 40 seconds there. A mishandle right on the blue line, and then Hudler somehow skating straight into 3 defenders. Yikes.
There's always ope net chances, but it seems like the Red Wings are just like a foot away from burying them
The Wings and their bad luck make me want to slam my head into a wall.
Rinne has been great, but friendly bounces have saved his bacon way more often than expected this series. It's so frustrating to watch.
MIGGY!.... this is still a dual tigers/redwings thread right?
Let's go Prince. Hit one out of the park.
We haven't really had any odd-man rushes for the majority of this series
2 minutes left
If he isn't, I think the fanbases of everyone in the NHL will just rebel
Leaving the ice, hit to the head, severe concussion. It's gotta be punished.
Especialy if Hagelin got 3 games. That said, NHL may just as likely fine Torres $2500.
And repeat offender.
Of course, this being the way things have been officiated in this year's NHL playoffs, rather than being on a 5 minute power play the Blackhawks actually ended up shorthanded after that hit. All four officials claim to have not seen it.
1:31 left, faceoff in the Pred's zone. Howard will probably be off
1 minute left
That'll do it, piss
Idiot play by Z there. You absolutely have to be responsible for your stick, esp in a critical situation like this. Game over.
Penalty on Zetterberg, high-sticking
I'm in disbelief
Zetterberg serves a penalty for that, Weber serves nothign for his criminal assault against him. Do you laugh at the NHL or cry?
that Detroit fans have chosen the latter.
What was Cleary thinking?
And that's the game. Dominate all fucking game, then give up soft ass goals to end it all
jimmy howard sucks
We should be celebrating a 4-game sweep based on level of play to this point. Absolutely ridiculous that we're going to be out of the playoffs any day now.
The season's over
Disappointing, for sure, but is anyone REALLY shocked? The better team won, and this may just force Ken Holland's hand come July 1.
The team that got massively outplayed won...what game were you watching?
The better team won? halol, have you watched the games?
Let the rebuilding begin, I guess.
Before anybody gives you shit for not believing or whatever those on their high horses say, it's painfully clean that this team doesn't just need to add one star to the line up to fix everything.
We have a good number of tired old guys who have already won a cup and that against a team of hungry young fellas is going to count for nothing in the moxie dept.
This team needs forwards that can handle the puck, a first liner for Datsyuk to work with, and a solid #3 defender. When your scoring leader is Franzen with a mere 20 something goals, you'll be in trouble one April.
Finally, I don't think Babcock should be fired. That's just silly. But he does need to have a very uncomfortable conversation this summer in which he sits across the table from Holland and answers the question "you've had arguably a top 3 team in hockey the past three years, and hardly make it into May, what's going wrong?"
I'm not irrational, or a shitty fan. I realize how dumb ass luck has played a role in our demise these past four games. But in reality, I think the game of hockey has passed us by, at least as far as playoff strategy goes.
I know we may win the next three in a row, I know that we got that streak and looked really good this mid season before the injuries hit, but I am a passionate and level headed fan who for the first time
In his 25 years of Red Winga fandom is very sick at his stomach and pissed off beyond belief at this team.
No one is going to bow down to us simply because there's a winged wheel on our chest anymore.
Go ahead and pick this apart
I hate Nashville.
Next year could be a totally different team. Possibly no Lidstrom or Homer, definitely no Stuart...that should open up quite a bit of cap space. I wonder if we'll take a run at Suter or someone like him
Before this series I was thinking we would take a run at Weber, but that's doesn't look likely at all now...not that it was before but still
Yeah, given everything that went down I doubt he'll be getting a call. Plus he'll be a RFA next year too
Suter will surely be high on Holland's shopping list.
Him and Parise I bet will be getting a call from Mr. Holland
Parise, Alexander Semin, and maybe even Nash too. The problem with Suter is that, after beating the Wings, why would he want to go to the Wings? Nashville is clearly on the up and Detroit clearly on the down - he has a much better chance at a Cup with Nashville at this point.
Hopefully, if we don't pull of the comeback, Nashville gets shellacked in the next round. And given that Nashville will be spending the majority of their time trying to court Weber, and he might be willing to come here.
But I doubt we'll have a shot with Nash. Columbus is still hoping they can build a team around him, so to part with him it'll take an arm and a leg
I'm not saying we need to go back to the drawing board, but this team needs a new direction with a big name guy. The last month or 2 of this season was the absolute worst Wings hockey I've seen in a long time, which is why I'm not at all surprised by this series with Nashville. There is just something missing.
There will be some huge names out there this summer and I'm praying the Red Wings will be making one of the bigger moves.
I really don't think the wings are finished. Nashville has been outplayed for most of the series. Get it back to the D. Win and see what happens in game 7.
At least the Tigers' big guns came through tonight.
With a couple exceptions -- the ridiculous lack of discipline on the second goal jumps out -- this is nothing more than terrible luck. If we keep playing like this, we have a great shot of winning three in a row. We have been as dominant as any team thus far.
Oh and PS, just once I want to hear a sportscaster acknowledge the role of luck. "Well, team x played like garbage, but sometimes you hit on 20 and get an ace."
Mickey Redmond said near the end of the game:
I've seen a lot of bad breaks go against the Red Wings over 30 years, but, boy, these four games might take the pot. There's been a ton of them.
It just goes to show that you can win a series with only luck and goaltending. Look at the stat lines -- unreal. Nashville fans probably think their team is really good at hockey.
Is Babcock safe if they lose this series?
Some of this shit isn't his fault. Or anyone's fault. Just terrible luck that you can't be blamed for.
I would say so. If they lose (I know it's probably gonna happen, but we came back from down 3 last year, it's not over yet), it's only 3 early exits. The Wings aren't a "lose a series, fire a coach" type of team, and I don't think management will overreact to that
Holland better at least make some moves. If they stick with what they have now I see an early exit next year too.
I mean yes he's safe, I meant no he's not going to be fired
doesnt make sense.
It's not easy listening to their fan base every day right now. 95% of them have no hockey knowledge (thus ignore the Wings dominated statlines) and just root against Detroit for spite.
Cannot wait to watch the Lions drop 40 on the Titans in September.
This series is like watching Lil Bro beat us the last few years. Very heartbreaking.
There's an explanation for it, but good luck communicating it to an irrational fan.
Small consolation, but Tigers win and expand their lead over the Sox to 2.5 games
Meh it's still early. They will have a 10 game lead in a couple weeks.
Off topic? It says in the thread, Tigers. Nice job asshole.
Go smoke some weed or something psycho
I just got home from the game. Im fucking sick as hell always seeing a goalie steal a series from us. Every year the Wings lose a series and all you hear is "The other team was lucky" or "There is nothing you can do about running into a hot goal tender". I say to hell with that. Can anyone remember a series the Wings have stolen? Ever? Why the hell can't we ever just go out and get a top 5 goalie that isn't on the down side of his damn career? And don't tell me J Howard is a top goalie. He is not.
"Why the hell can't we ever just go out and get a top 5 goalie that isn't on the down side of his damn career?"
We did for the 2001-2002, and it worked out pretty well.
I agree this does happen to us a lot though. It's just because we've had such stellar players for so long. Nobody is going to beat us without a hot goalie.
