Offensive Explosion Continues for Softball

Submitted by South Bend Wolverine on

Less than 24 hours after blasting Toledo back into the stone age & putting up a gaudy 16 hits against Arizona State, the softball team has been at it again.

Michigan started the day with a rematch against the Toledo Rockets, and went easy on them this time ... run-ruling them by a mere 9-0 margin.  Home runs from Sweet and Swearingen (who has played quite well this weekend) led the way, as Betsa cruised to an easy win in the circle on the strength of 3.1 innings of 2-hit ball.  Freshman Tera Blanco made an appearance, and sealed the deal, going 1.2 with no hits and one strike-out.

Game two featured a matchup with another overmatched opponent, this time the Binghamton Bearcats.  Sierra Romero was the driving force at the plate, as she so often is, going 3-3 with two HRs and 6 RBIs on the day.  Haylie Wagner got the start and the win in the circle, but Blanco once again got to see some game-action, stepping in for the final two innings as the Wolverines went on to win 15-0.

Thus far on the weekend, Michigan has outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 51-10 over the course of 20 offensive innings.  The Wolverines have averaged over 2 runs scored per inning, and have plated at least one run in 70% of the innings played.  This weekend's action will conclude tomorrow with another game against a strong Arizona State team.

First, not to jinx the team or anything, but in their national title year, they lost the first game of the seaon and then won 32 straight games.  They started out with two rainouts, which we don't have in our pattern for this year.

While Binghampton is weak (Game 2 victory for today), they only lost 1-0 to ASU last night.  They showed their weakness by just edging Toledo 5-4 yesterday.
