OC hire imminent, Herbstreit is excited, other hints

Submitted by bdsisme on

Herbstreit's tweet:

@LongStrider86: any names come to mind for a good fit as michigan's new OC?” I know and so will you very soon. And you'll be pleased

— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) January 9, 2014

Second Herbstreit tweet (I am editing out the Balas tweet because he is a douchecanoe. Can I say douchecanoe on the internet? After further review, yes I can.  Mods can censor if they want.):

@BCrandall11_9: @KirkHerbstreit is Rob Chudzinski going to be next OC for UofM?” No, current OC in college. That's it. Good pm

— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) January 9, 2014

Other hints:
- NFL Assistant has been tossed around a lot: Herbstreit's tweet says it is a current OC in college
- TomVH tweeted about John McNulty, but not sure if he has any inside info (no longer relevant)
- @CoachingSearch, who is pretty well known in the profession, dropped the names of Lane Kiffin, John McNulty, Mike Groh, and Randy Fichtner
- Sam Webb seems to know who it is, but isn't giving it away.  According to the other mgoblog thread (h/t jack daniels), Sam hints that it is NOT Loeffler, Terry Malone, Parrish, Groh, Kiffin, Bloomgren, Treadwell, or Chudzinski.
According to mgouser Amutnal, the hire will be announced tomorrow.
- Here's a link to another interesting mgouser comment about a well-known school's OC being hired.  Prepare to posbang or negbang him after the fact.

It's not like it's a recruit, it's news...isn't the point to break it first?

I don't get it. When a recruit wants to wait for his commitment to break until after his announcement, some douchebag always has to leak it ahead of time and ruin the kids one moment.

But we're talking about an offensive coordinator who's going to be close, if not more than a million dollars. And everyone wants to play "I know, but you don't."

I don't care where he's from...why discriminate against a guy because he coaches or played at Michigan? That's silly.

He shouldn't get HIRED because of it, but he shouldn't lose out because of it either.

Get the best guy, let's win and let's roll to some B1G Championships. Fuck the rest.

The big question is who will be pleased? Michigan fans or MSU / OSU fans? I'm sure they where pleased with Borges. John Mcnulty wouldn't be pleasing, he would be more of a wait and see. I'm just considering the Bucs offense this year and the cardinals a few years ago.

We think it's a current OC from a well-known school, yet many people are talking about NFL experience, Camerson fits the mold.  Honestly, the guy's had a ton of success and is only 52 (almost 53) years old.  If it happens, Mattison/Camerson are more high profile than Hoke!

Also, just this, just because:

Define "tons of success".  I get that we are not hiring him as a HC but he was fired at Indiana after 5 seasons of doing nothing.  At least the current Indiana HC is doing what he can on offense and innovate - Cam did not do that.  He was fired at Miami after 1 season...and a 1-15 record.  He was fired from the Ravens OC...immediately after they surged into the Super Bowl.  I get that he is a "Michigan Man" and has had some high profile gigs including NFl stops but "tons of success" is a different matter.  If Cam is the choice, this sounds like "the easy pick" to me rather than someone innovative or going to change much.   That said, I think it was time to change for change sake and the list of "manball" pro style OCs in the college ranks with a decent resume is limited.

Well Kirk just told someone on twitter that it is not Cam Cameron. So if he truly knows then Michigan is not getting Cameron.

i was one of the 1% that didn't think borges was awful. questionable at times, but thats true whenever a team struggles.

however, glad to see hoke  be proactive. i was in deep fear that this regime had already settled into the 'complacent' phase. i was even more worried that hoke's hot seat would make hiring a high profile coordinator impossible (ala rodriguez with robinson).

exciting news. 2014 has momentum.

i think its cam cameron too. hopefully this gets us back on campbell's radar.

Rivals' LSU site is reporting that they're replacing their OL coach. Don't know if that has any impact on the Cam rumors, but I couldn't resist passing it along.
