No surprise I guess.
not that there is anything wrong with that
but not surprising.
Wish him the best at Tenn. if or when we land a couple of top WR some other highly regarded recruits I don't think this will end up much of a factor considering our D-Line class of 2012 we already have commited.
Good luck to the young man. I hope he does well in his pursuits.
Not a surprise at all. Tennessee's Rivals site actually jumped the gun and posted his commitment article before he started his presser. This was one of the worst-kept recruiting secrets that I can remember.
If the coaches cooled on him, I trust them that Godin / Wormley / Strobel can play the 3-Tech. I'm just happy that he's not going to Sparty. I guess good outcome overall.
Best of luck to him, unless he plays us.
down the road we might find out he accepted inproper benifits
Really? You don't think a rebuilding SEC team can land a good recruit without cheating? Kiffin is gone from Tennessee. They are trying to fix the mess he left them in.
i dont think SEC teams know how to recruit without cheating, even if they don't have to.
At least you only posted this once.
Should be some more noise about this from MSC.
Wish he had come here but at least he's not going to MSU.
But as long as MSU keeps getting stoned in-state, and we probably won't have to play him, the damage to us is minimal. Picking MSU over Michigan is one thing, but going against the grain and following your heart, I can respect that. Good luck to him unless we're meeting in a Florida Bowl.
From what I've heard we were in his top 2 with (obviously) Tennessee. That seems like a lot more than a 1% chance.
Give Sheldon Day a call?
Doubtful. I've said it elsewhere, but I think Michigan is done with defensive line recruits for the class. Pipkins is a great nose tackle prospect, I like Godin at the three-tech, and between Wormley and Strobel one of those two could slide inside if needed, while Ojemudia looks like a bona-fide weakside DE prospect. There are more pressing needs on the O-line, at receiver, in the secondary, and I'd even argue at running back. Michigan filled their D-line needs well this year, and they're in great position to get a big jump-start on the 2013 prospects.
since they are recruiting on a more national scale these days.
Move along, nothing to see here.....except that it makes a certain other "ace" look less and less credible, if that was even possible.
What do you mean?
Eh, he's been hot on Tennessee all along. It's a loss but not unexpected. Best of luck to him.
concur. the line beef should always be first priority but we do need some serious weaps for the future. Dunn me, 6 ft+ 4 star receiver me.
Dooley is a great coach and will recruit well.
Don't get me wrong, I hate the Vols, eeerrrr...
That's a long, long time to wear that much orange. Yaaak.
...the Vols fans said it shouldn't have been close.
Well...they were right.
So ?...What is your point ?
to let people know that a local kid who had Michigan interest made his college decision official? That's probably what his point was....
Really...Wow.... Insighful ...!
Good luck to the fellow Michigander. I'm just glad he didn't choose State. Maybe it was that good old southern BBQ Tennessee is known for, I mean he is a big fellow.
Knoxville has crappy BBQ. If he wanted that, he could have gone to the worst team in FBS. The University of Memphis. And have probably gained an extra 300lbs.
No sweat, good luck with that Tennesee heat amigo! Isnt UofT at the bottom on their conference?
good luck, still plenty of options for the 2012 class. but UT needs to gtfo our state...still mad about Deanthony Arnett
Mattison's zone blitzes he uses often require DT's to drop into coverage. We may be looking maining at DT's/NT's with that kind of athletic ability and therefore the coaches are looking at bulking up some 5-Techs and using them as DT's. It's possible they didn't see that kidn of versatility in O'Brien.
I can't see any logical reason to drop a NT/DT onto pass coverage.
Vince Wilfork the last two weeks!
Or BJ Rank in the NFC Championship
It's b/c the QB doesn't think about the DT in coverage either. He thinks the short middle of the field is open for the slant and boom. Passed tipped and then intercepted.
Good luck to him. I'm sure he'll have a great career.
I can't believe people get so bent when a kid goes away to school.
The south can be pretty nice in the winter.
Knoxville is amazing in fall, very nice place to be. (Lived there four years)
I live in 'bama now - june-august = hot as hell. 82 right now though.
What's your take? Some football camp reports made him sound like the next Warren Sapp. Other people have said he was way overrated and playing mediocre football this fall and that the UM staff backed away.
Not sure whether to be disappointed or indifferent.
Not Ace, but I live in the area, and have watched a handful of Danny's games when I realized he would be a Michigan recruit over the past couple of years. He has some amazing camp film no doubt, but I have hardly ever seen him be that dominant in an actual game. For the level of competition Powers plays, I would expect more out of a 4 star , top 150 type kid across the board.
However, I do think that between Hoke, Montgomery, and, Mattison that they would have turned him into a solid player if it worked out that he went to Michigan.
Happy Trails oft speculated upon Danny O'Brien.
I was hoping the 2012 "super class" would finish out like this: Payton, Darboh, Banner, Dunn, Wright and Danny O'Brien. But we don't have six more spots. The most we could possibly take is five (which makes 28 total) so I guess one of those players had to be left out.
We have 22 commits, so we have room for 6 more guys. Maybe you were counting Jeremy Clark, who is slotted as a greyshirt and will count for the 2013 class.
... on what exactly the whole turning-down-Tommy-Schutt story was? Looking at the upcoming depth chart, even with young Pipkens coming in, does anyone feel so comfortable on the interior DL that a top-100 guy like Schutt might not have been a nice pickup? Was Hoke hamstrung by a promise to O'Brien/Pipkens that no other commits would be accepted at 1 or 3 tech? That whole episode never really made added up. And it'll go deeper in the red if Schutt ends up being a terror to play against when we see PSU down the road.
Good luck to Danny O'Brien. Seems like he's the outdoorsy, good'ol boy type who's going to enjoy Tennessee's geography and culture. He probably made the right choice for himself. Bummer, though, I think he'll be a good one.
The way I've heard it described on the board (So take that with a 10ct grain of salt):
ND canceled Schutt's visit. And he wanted to visit Michigan to 'get back' at the Irish. Michigan rebuffed him b/c he wanted to get back at the Irish instead of ... actually wanting to be a Wolverine.
If true, Point Hoke.
Nah. Good luck to O'Brien.
Always happy to see a fellow Flint guy be successful. I wish him nothing but the best unless UT and U-M should happen to cross paths in the next 5 years or so.
Enough of the "Good Luck" postings. He didn't choose UM so what is the point of saying good luck, wish you well;99% of you don't know him.
Did you wish the person who didn't hire you good luck with the candidate they did hire, did you wish the girl who turned you down for a date good luck with the guy she said yes too.
I sure as hell didn't and used that for motivation to prove them wrong. It works pretty well.
I'm with you on this - always found the good lucks extremely annoying - if they aren't here who gives a fuck what kind of luck they have?
Good luck lil homie
