Oakland is still in play.......for Najee!

In the latest turn in what's been a dizzying few months of tracking Najee's every movement, 247Sports has since learned from two sources that Harris' departing flight from San Antonio actually has Oakland — his hometown — as its final destination. Both sources have knowledge of the logistics of Harris' travel plans to and from the Army Bowl.

The new information on Harris' flight plans comes following a week during which Harris has declined to provide a final answer on his college intentions. He has instead indicated that he would simply show up at the school of his choosing, presumably Michigan or Alabama where he is currently committed to, as an early enrollee. At one point in the week, Harris suggested he'd shout out his final school at the end of the Army Bowl. He later said he wouldn't do that.

Harris' Antioch High School coach John Lucido, a guest coach at the Army Bowl, told 247Sports this week he thought Harris would need to fly home and pack, as he was barely packed for a week in San Antonio, let alone a semester of college.

The fact that he's flying home prior to his first semester in college makes way more sense than just walking up to gate A32 or B5 from an AllStar game. I would bet he knows. Good for him for keeping it this under wraps, and all the grown ups scrambling to figure it out. And the haters can't hate til he's already en route.

Or, that he's committed to Bama and feels like the need to restate a current and unchanged commitment is weird, which it is.

Honestly the fact that he's saying nothing could be read favorably in either direction so I don't think can be used at all. Who knows.

Reminds me of the scene from "A Few Good Men."

"She said, if Markinson doesn't want to be found, he won't be. I could be Markinson, and you wouldn't know.

Are you Markinson?

No.

I'm not Markinson. That's two down."

My answer is I don't have the first damn clue. Maybe he was an early riser and liked to pack in the morning. And maybe he didn't have any friends. I'm an educated man, but I'm afraid I can't speak intelligently about the travel habits of Najee Harris. What I do know is that he was set to leave the camp at 0600. Now, are these the questions I was really called here to answer? Plane seats and QB interviews? Please tell me that you have something more. These Michigan fans are hanging on for for their lives. Please tell me their recruiting sources haven't pinned their hopes to a twitter feed.

Or, which is actually more likely, he is just a quiet kid and doesn't want the attention... it's not his fault that all of these grown adults are turning this into big drama. Kid just wants to quietly decide where he's going, and go. Media and fans are ruining that. Has nothing to do with "mind games." That's not his style.

I don't want to think that he has nothing better to do than to jerk around the two fanbases like this.  It would seem more logical that he is either legitimately undecided or he is coming to Michigan and just doesn't want to let down the Alabama people.  At this late date and assuming he IS enrolling early, you'd think he knows where he's going.  So, I'm optimistically hoping for the latter scenario.

I agree with you that it is the media / fans who are turning this into a spectacle.  And he owes nobody any type of announcement or media circus at which he pulls ahat off the table.  He is totally free to just show up on campus in AA or Alabama next week and go to work.  It is actually kind of an awesome attitude.

But, if he doesn't want the attention, then he has to realise that understand that the easiest way to get rid of that attention is to just make a simple announcement (or even a 4 word tweet) that says "I am going to [Michigan / Alabama / Slippery Rock]" and be done with it.  The lack of announcement is actually increasing the attention significantly.

Ok so Ill try and put some of my logic into this, which is dumb considering crootin...but I think Tua was telling the truth in a way.

The Army game will buy the ticket out of San Antonio, so when Harris accepted the invite he was a solid Bama commit, and was probably flying straight there with Tua, thus Tua saying "we were" rather then "we are"

Since that point (this fall) Harris has flipped to the good guys and asked the Army bowl to change his flight back to Oakland as to not tip off everyone in the airport.

But then again who knows he might be flying home to get his Pug and end up at Georgia

If he knows where he is going to school, and that school is Alabama, and he truly does not want to create drama, then why not just shut everybody up and reaffirm his commitment to Alabama?

Conversely, if he intends to go to Michigan, why not just say that? I understand that he doesn't want any social media backlash from Alabama fans, but is that really such a big deal just before he has to start school anyway?

At first I thought it was cool that he was keeping mum in order to avoid hoopla. But this whole circus has become bigger than any recruitment I can remember. If he truly doesn't like attention he has an odd way of showing it.

Am I wrong here? Wouldn't it have been relatively easy for him to put all of this to rest?

Yes... you are wrong here. He doesn't owe anybody an announcement. He doesn't owe anybody an explanation. He just wants to decide between Michigan and Bama, and then go to Michigan or Bama. Simple as that. He doesn't owe it to you, me, or any recruiting media member to inform us of that decision. It's HIS decision. It isn't him seeking attention. It is the fans, media, and fellow recruits all speculating on where he will end up. Him announcing, especially when he isnt even sure, isn't going to change anything. In fact, all it does is create more drama and attention.

You keep making declarative comments that you could only make if you knew him personally. Do you know him personally? No? Ok. Then you don't know what he wants or what his intentions are. It's great you're defending him. I applaud that but it seems more like faux outrage in the way you are arguing it.

So true. Said it before and now again, I'm not that invested in this story. I click the links to marvel at these privileged white men who are making it the center of their universes. Fascinating behavior by some individuals who are spectacularly unaware of self.
