NYTimes Shows some love to MBB
Whether we want to talk about it as a sexy reason, this season has been good, and recruiting classes of the future look great, in large part because of this.
Just saw this on Tae Odoms Facebook. Maybe the Mgocommunity could give him some business. Maybe someone could make this it's own thread? Thanks.
Good idea - I'll create one for you.
Very nice piece in the Times....the trend is definitely in the right direction. The program is also getting the money necessary to have some wow factor when recruits visit the facilities.
"The renovated Crisler Center’s now matches the Spartans’ Breslin Center, and the basketball tide could be turning. Michigan has beaten Michigan State in three of their past four meetings. "
Dont think recruits dont notice the dingy cinderblock that dominates aging facilities in EL. Dont think they dont notice the rich glass and wood finish that dominates the Davidson facility either.
The tide is indeed turning. Renovating Crisler is a good start.
It is nice to see the basketball program and its facilities finally get this level of investment, rather than continue to be treated as a stepchild of sorts, which seemed to be the case for years. With excellent facilities and personnel, you can make great things happen - I like the trend certainly.
advantage for recruiting in both basketball and football. I always thought once these upgrades were complete that it would give M a decisive advantage in state and in the Midwest.
partly because we are The Chosen people. And partly because there are more Michigan alums at The Times than any other B1G10 school.
i figured it had something to do with the large number of NYC transplants among the student body
This is a bit OT but probably acceptable for a slow 'blog period. In other basketball coverage the NYT profiles Lenny Cooke:
There was a "Forks Over Knives" post here yesterday. If there any youngsters on the board today, please understand that, nutritional preferences aside, diet and fitness matter! Just look at Lenny. :)
I want to see it! The Maize Rage needs to work up some moves for next year.
It's nice to see the recognition. We have an advantage at Michigan due to our great academics universally known branding and rich tradition. Now for basketball we have top notch facilities and a well respected coach getting results. When you build the program slowly deliberately and in the right way good things happen and people take note- glad the NYTs did in tho article!
