Well I agree. But then again, I also think Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden, the other Harbaugh, Nick Saban, Gus Malzahn, and Bill Belicheck also make a lot of sense as hires.

We all just need to let this be water rolling off a ducks back...this is going to continue all frigging year!! Harbaugh IS NOT EVER coming back to michigan....EVER!!! Get it thru your heads people...we are going to go thru a search for a coach AND AD....let's just relax and let it take it's course

I learned nothing from that article.

The media spins up unfounded speculation and loses track of that fact, and eventually starts reporting on their own rumors as if they are real events.  I'm not sure they know the difference at this point.

would he still deserve B1G coach of the year honors for his first season?  Or should those be, in proxy, handed to hall and oates for inspiring him to be like Elvis?

Edit: just ribbing on you anyway, not trying to start a debate.  Let's see how this weekend goes before we butt heads about Brady Hoke's ability or perceived lack of ability as a head coach

Nah, let's not "see how this weekend goes before we butt heads about Brady Hoke's ability or perceived lack of ability as a head coach."

Every week we hear that.  It's a dilatory tactic, not a philosophy upon which decisions can be made:  Follow this path, and we'll never get to butt heads about Brady's ability.  From now to eternity we'll be told to wait--now is not the time to pass judgment; maybe after the next game we can do so.

We've had 3 years to observe Brady.  We have a ton of data.  We don't need to see how one more weekend goes before stating an opinion on the subject.  So here's mine:  Brady is a stupendous recruiter and a lovable guy; his on-field results are uninspiring.

And after seven years in the wilderness, I'm ready for inspiring.

Granted he could be coaching the Bills of Buffalo or Cleveland next year due to his NFL strife but my guess is Ann Arbor is not a destination for him, short or long term.

Also, my other guess is that recruiting Stanford is one of the easiest jobs in America.  Mothers are moved to tears that their child might be able to attend Stanford.  I have seen it twice (and it was for academics and not for athletics, so small hole in my theory here) but you get the Stanford Degree nonetheless.  Not equals for UofM which has a good prestigious upper echelon degree but friends it isn't Stanford.

Stanford might be an easy sell for a lot of reasons, but don't they have even more stringent academic standards for their athletes? Isn't that what Harbaugh said himself? If so, it seems like it would be a tougher job to get the kinds of players who are at the elite level and great students simply because there aren't as many of them.

Stanford, as a school, is just head and shoulders better than places like Duke, Vandy, Notre Dame, and the public ivies (i.e. the good academic schools that also play big time football).  Palo Alto is also much nicer than Durham or South Bend.

There's a reason Stanford dominates the non-revenue sports the way they do.  If you are choosing based on education and location (as many who are playing a sport without a professional future do), there isn't much of a choice.

There may not be many D-1 prospects with a high GPA and, say, a 1200+ SAT score, but all of them are going to look real hard at Stanford if offered, no matter where they are in the country.

Recruiting isn't a piece of cake, they do have to find kids by scouting nationwide, but once they do find them they are in a very advantageous position.  If the team is going to BCS bowls every year, that is just icing on the cake.

Historically, only USC and Washington have been to and won more Rose Bowls from the Pac-10 than Stanford.  Michigan has won it 8 times, Ohio State 7, and Stanford 6.  Not a giant gap.

A lot of guys have had success there, they've just left right after that.  John Ralston won two Rose Bowls and took the Broncos job.  Bill Walsh left after two seasons to take the 49ers job.  Dennis Green left after three to take the Vikings job.  Willingham left for ND.  Harbaugh left after 4 years.

They just went into the shitter recently because they replaced Willingham with a guy who had gone 11-45 at Tulane, fired him after three years, then hired Walt Harris and fired him after just two seasons.  Not exactly a recipe for success.

For being one of the easiest places to recruit, it sure has been inconsistent.  Michigan has had much mosre continued success than Stanford over the years.  I agree that a Stanford degree is huge, but I think that a degree at Stanford is still in a similar realm to Michigan.

the only real advantage I see is the weather. Which, yeah, it is pretty nice there.  Michigan still has the bigger name and draw in football despite the success as of late.

I don't think troubles with recruiting to Michigan will be a big deciding factor in whether he comes here.

People that don't follow michigan football closely just don't understand that he won't be coming back to coach michigan. From the outside, everything really does seem like it aligns correctly. Alumni, good coach, losing locker room at SF, michigan needs new coach, etc. However, most people that know a lot about michigan football have that gut feeling that they know Harbaugh will never come here to coach. It is unfortunate too because I think he would be an amazing coach here.

It's one of the reasons people need to be sending letters to the Regents asking them to let Brandon go.  The chances of getting Harbaugh may be small, but we can't let them be zero. And they appear to be zero as long as Brandon is around.

for me the biggest hole in this theory is that "it makes sense". As long as DB is athletic director it's pointless to imagine anything that makes sense will occur. So, until UM gets a new AD I htink it would be more worthwhile to look at what possibilities seem to make the least sense and would piss off the fanbase the most when considering what is most likely to happen.

What's with all the Debbie Downer's saying Harbaugh isn't coming?  I bet these are the same guys still supporting Hoke and thinking Michigan is going to go undefeated through Big Ten play like it's the 1990s.

but I hope these reports come out every week. Michigan has had bad press lately so what better for recruits and foes a like but to keep hearing one of the best football coaches is being linked to being the next Michigan coach? I think its a good thing.

Harbaugh is the only guy who can resurrect this program and Michigan needs to do whatever it takes to get that guy on our sideline.

Exactly...and what did Andy crawl through to reach his dream?

"Michigan Stadium...sheet...bout scare me to death something that big"

..."Not me..I didnt hire Rich Rodriguez and I didnt hire Hoke either...whatever mistakes we made, we paid for them..and then some.  That Big Ten Championship...Playoff Birth... I don't think that's too much to ask"

"I don't think you ought' a be doing this to yourselves Michigan Fans! This is shitty pipe dreams! I mean Jim Harbaugh's all the way up there, and Ann Arbor is way down here, and that's the way it is!"

"Yeah, right. That's the way it is. Harbaugh's up there, and we are way down here. I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy Winning... or get busy dying."
