I can see a bit of a slippery slope here, but he also got contracts with a handful of other schools about the same time, and I think it's reasonable to assume that his son wanted to go to a place like Nebraska -- where he might be able to be a four-year starter at a traditional powerhouse -- on its own merits.
Basically, if this happened at Michigan (say Denard's dad had a similar deal), I would be a little concerned about what the NCAA would say, but I wouldn't feel like anything dirty had happened.

If only the free market system was allowed to apply to collegiate athletics the same way it apllies to everything else, all of this controversy could be avoided and we could just enjoy the games.
