Now...how about some commits?

Submitted by cypress on

I understand that the recruiting has been a little slow lately, I think a lot of kids are taking a wait and see approach, and I dont blame them. Before this game our situation looked to be very much in limbo. Now, with a big win, I'm hoping we keep building momentum and kid a couple kids to pull the trigger.

When we are 8-3 after the Wisconsin game the dominoes will fall. The end of the NCAA investigation will help greatly, as will offensive explosion, with no turnovers, against Purdue. Michigan could hang another 60 on the Boilermakers because the players will have the large load of bowl eligibility off their shoulders, and play fast and loose.

There's probably a bunch of people waiting to commit, but they just want to see wins 6 and/or 7. Would you want to commit to a team with a history of starting undefeated and ending not so undefeated?

One nice thing about this game though: media attention. A 67-65 shootout is definitely going to make the news, and recruits tend to watch the news. I don't think we've had news this good in a while. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some commits coming soon.

Why is a game in which you surrendered 65 points to a freshman quarterback and one of the worst offenses in the Big Ten a "big win" for us now?

Bo Schembechler would not be proud of this team.

if we don't beat Purdue by 2 TD's or so.  Looking for a better road performance than what we saw in Happy Valley.

BTW: congrats to JoPa for his 400th win.  The guy has been GREAT for college football and for all the young lives he has influenced.  I am very happy for him.

It hasn't in the past like the past few years when ILL has been terrible, but consider how much of a turnaround ILL has made defensively, idk how you can't say it was a big win over a team that most thought should of shit all over us..

We just put up 680 yards of offense on a team ranked in the top 15 in total defense?  Not to mention they had already playd 3 top 15 teams..  and they killed teams that we barely squeeked by or lost to

They've all been big games because we had yet to win and secure bowl eligibility and those extra practices after starting 5-0. The pressure is off now and we're all excited.

This was the biggest win to this point in Rrod's MIchigan career because of all the significance that it holds.

And yes, Ill is a damn good defense and a good Big Ten team who most expected to beat us compared to how horribly we played against a not that great penn state team.

When you've been bowl ineligible for 2 years, faced NCAA sanctions, and all the other crap that I know you know has happened to the program over the past 3 years, to clinch a bowl game now feels like a Rose Bowl berth.

What made this game a big win is that finally 2009 != 2010, and further, when it came down to what mattered most, our defense made a play, probably the most important play of the season on Illinois 2-pt conversion attempt.

May Bo Schembechler claw his way out his grave, shuffle over to your miserable little apartment, and deliver the most merciless beating you will ever get in your life with his cold, rotting fists as he instructs you in how hugely important it is to beat the school that fired his long-time assistant and close friend Gary Moeller after three seasons.

Here are how Big 10 receivers rank in the passing statistics (yards / game).  I know this board doesn't need convincing, but it does give lie to the idea RR's offense isn't receiver friendly.  Anyone you guys know should know this?  I also thought the stats were interesting in their own right.

I just hope that the "fire RR" talk stops.  That is the main thing keeping high school kids from comitting.  They want to make sure RR will be here next year.

has a 50/50 shot of not getting bowl eligible.  They are the exact opposite of Michigan in all respects this year, and it's pretty hard to watch.  But screw it...Go Blue!

but i dont know if thats a win that will win over any commits.

it was huge for our program, but i dont think itll impress too many recruits that we beat illinois 67-65.

is this a great stepping stone toward being a power again? yes
was it impressive to your average CFB fan or recruit? kinda, not really

I went to a house warming party last night. The kind where the only person you know is the person you went with. Anyway, I wore my Michigan hat and I swear everyone said something to me about the game and how crazy it was. I live in Florida, so the people there consisted of UF, Auburn, and FSU fans. That was an impressive game yesterday that had everyone talking.

If I was a recruit, I would be a lot more concerned about how good a team is going to be in 2 or 3 years when I'm getting playing time then how a team is playing right now.

To that end, I probably would have been concerned whether RR would still have a job until this win, though I wouldn't blame a recruit for waiting for win 7 before making up their mind.

Also to that first point, I would have to be pretty excited about the future of this offense.  Plus, I would be thinking Michigan's defense will improve with some experience.

Lastly, I would be looking at Florida and Texas and how much dropoff they've had without Tebow and McCoy and I would be a little hesitant to read too far into the current success of some current Top 25 teams.  Alabama for instance - when Julio Jones, Mark Ingram, and McElroy are gone, will they have a dropoff too?

I will be interested to see how Saban works out at Alabama working on a level playing field re: oversigning.

September 2012 can't come too soon. Anyone else think D. Brandon was aware how this story would end when he signed on for the Jerry Jones moneyfest?
