landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
Notre Dame is going to the championship game
Vomit barf puke fuck
Bunch of ugly mugs... Is the team roided out? I'm feeling a roid scandal coming soon!
Lane Kiffin out there making Al Borges look like friggin Jesus
Picking Dantonio over Kelly.
Cool, I'll gladly watch Alabama tear them a new asshole.
than when we faced them. They will hang with Bama, at least for a while.
Who doesn't know how to call the right plays. Going for a TD there? What a terrible move.
Fucking brilliant, Lane. Between Lanie and Big Al I have had the misfortune to watch some of the worst playcalling ever.
dong punch of the day.
they could be playing Ohio.
How would that be worse? At least one would have to lose.
One would have to WIN, too.
Worst day ever.
Better than Florida.
I'm guessing you're too young to have ever encountered Notre Dame fans when their team is really good....
I'm guessing you are wrong.
I'm with you; no Michigan fan should prefer Florida over ND in a championship game. Ever since Florida jumped UM in the polls to #2 at the end of the year a few years ago based on PR rather than resume, they've deserved no love from UM. And usually, UM gets way more credit for beating ND than it should; UM gets to claim a win over ND - which always sounds good, even when ND isn't. So maybe 20 or 30 years ago, it made sense to hate ND, but not any more. Just like 50 years ago maybe people hated Army and 90 years ago they hated Chicago or whatever. I can't forgive Florida (and Urban) for jumping UM any more than I can forgive Nebraska for their gift national championship in 1997. Maybe in 30 years I'll sound like all these people who hate ND; people will be asking, Why again do you hate Nebraska so much? But ND in 2012? Preferable to any SEC team, especially if you're living outside of southern Michigan.
I would totally agree with you, except... A lot of the edge of the injustice was taken off when both UM and OSU were exposed by subsequently getting pantsed by USC and Florida. So even though with the data available at the time, UM should have been in the MNC game, it's much harder to make that argument after the fact.
Doesn't change the fact that Urban was (and still is) a complete douche for his lobbying efforts though.
I watched every UM game and about five of Florida's games that year. UM was - as objective as I can be - by far the better team. It didn't just look better because it was playing weaker opponents, which is what some said. I remember many instances when Florida would do things a good team just doesn't do (stupid penalties, dropped punts, things like that), and I remember thinking that before they were ever in the discussion for #2. They just looked inept more than the #2 team in the country should and got lucky enough to win, whereas UM that year generally dominated its opponents. But you're right - that doesn't change OSU's complete failure in the MNC. Maybe OSU wins 7 of 10 against Florida. Maybe not. But they blew it that night.
Just to give you a double-except: all the arguments Urban and the SEC used to justify Florida's jumping to #2 were no longer valid when it was LSU v. Alabama recently (didn't even win conference, already saw them play each other, had its chance, etc.) So would LSU have gotten blown out by someone other than Alabama? Possibly. If we were going to find out that OSU would lie down for Florida, we should have also been able to find out that LSU would have lain down for "#2 team in the country not from the SEC".
That hypocrisy - which kept a deserving UM team out of a second shot at OSU on a neutral field - irritates me much more than some faded glory of ND. I'd rather have some team from the USSR in the MNC, if it means keeping Florida, another SEC team, or Urban/OSU out.
This has been one of the worst college football seasons I can remember. I'm starting to think God is a ND fan. They seem to always get every team's worst performance.
He's just been effing with them the last 20 years. That god and his sense of humor!
Worst day of college football I have ever experienced.
At least Lane Kiffin is failing? Gotta find the silver lining somehow guys.
But yeah, fuck fuck shit fuck
I feel like I am in hell! The Domers and Ohio both undefeated and Michigan had the chance to stop both. Unbelievable. This season sucks!
Ohio is undefeated and unranked.
I for one gave a small thanks on Thursday to Chris Cicero and Jim Tressell for stupidly cracking OSU's invisibility cloak and getting them a bowl ban. I probably should have thanked Gene Smith, too, but I still have some standards.
They're not unranked in the AP poll. They could, in theory, win a share of the national title.
They can both win the title.
I now have a ulcer! That is THE worst case scenario ever! Say nd beats Georgia for the mnc, Ohio grabs the ap, and Nebraskas coach retires, pulls at the coaches heart strings, and they get the coaches poll nc, and Bama beats up on somebody, somehow gets a share of something.... Anyhoo all of the teams we lost to this season get shares of the championship
It's impossible for OSU and ND to both get NC's. If ND wins they will be undefeated and AP will not give anyone a NC over them. The only way OSU wins the AP is if they are the only undefeated team left, which means ND lost and doesn't win one.
better next year. They can't tackle and they have no discipline. For all that talent, they aren't very good. He got outcoached completely, especially on that goal line stand. They gave that game away.
I don't think that--
The thing is--
*vomits yet again*
Fuck, never mind.
Today sucks. Notre Dame sucks. Now I get to hear ESPN sucking their dick all day every day until they get curb-stomped in the NCG.
Silver lining: they were a crappy five-loss team last year. If they could make this kind of a leap forward, why can't we? They've won with defense, and yet Bob Diaco wasn't exactly known as a stud DC before this season.
And they turned the ball over seemingly in every possession. They lost games where they should've won but due to TO, they lost.
This year? They don't turn the ball over a ton and they're undefeated..
They won because God is on their side. We don't really have that edge...
...and USC ended it in an almost poetic fashion with a call for "roughing the kicker", a penalty which is declined, giving USC 19 seconds to do...something. They do "something" too - a sack and fumble, recovered by USC. Notre Dame wins.
As a natural consequence, another bottle of wine is open...and not in celebration.
And Brian Kelly only had to ignore two kids dying to do it!
Yep. Those boosters don't like paying for mediocrity.
This can't help recruiting when 2 of our biggest rivals are 12-0 and one is going to the MNC game.
This is Watson.
Worst display of coaching I have seen in my entire life between GERG, Borges, and Kiffin this weekend. Abysmal. Naturally I was rooting for all three. I fucking hate college football. How do these guys stay employed while doing the same thing over and over that doesn't work? Not even the weatherman can get away with that.
I'm not even impressed with their goalline stand. USC ran into a stacked line repeatedly without ever blocking the blitzing safeties. Terrible fucking coaching. I hope Alabama curbstomps them. Don't call off the dogs. Fucking murder them.
That escalated quickly.
Yeah, I shouldn't post after ND games. Just an awful day for me. I apologize for the rant. All I am going to hear for the next month and a half is ND crap. I've already gotten texts from people I haven't talked to in multiple years rubbing it in as if ND had just beaten Michigan. I don't even get it. Makes it worse that Borges and Kiffin made the same stupid mistakes repeatedly. ND is not even one of the best 5 teams in the nation and they will beat Georgia after the Dawgs somehow upset Bama.
and we won't have to watch ND win a MNC
I am pure sodium chloride today
I'm thinking you mean pure Sodium...Na2+/Na23isotope
this whole season was fucked from day one.. not just for michigan.. USC ranked number 1. they end up with 5 losses maybe 6. OSU going 12-0 when they should have lost 3 of their first 4 and few others in the BIG. and now ND is gonna have a chance to be National Champs.. whats the countdown till next season?
FUCK THIS SHIT!!!
ALL OF THE OTHER SHITS!!!!
Alabama will absolutely destroy them
We could, but we don't have the talent ND has. They have running backs with power and speed and we don't. Their offensive line is better. And I hate to say it, but we have Al and his inexplicable play-calling. And oh yeah, we play a tougher schedule in general.
What OSU and ND did this year, they did with 8 home games. When we were 11-2 last year, we had 8 home games. Thanks to Delany and Brandon, we will probably never have 8 home games again.
I'm not necessarily talking about next season, but sometime in the next few years, while Mattison is still here and we gradually upgrade the overall talent level. I wouldn't completely rule out a run next year though, with most of the big games at home.
Why don't you think Brandon would want eight home games again? If anything, one of the criticisms of him has been that he wants to play too many nonconference games at home.
Not to nitpick, but ND only played 6 home games this year. They had 2 neutral site games and 4 road games.
In Chicago vs. the U is hardly neutral
I think most of the country just became Nick Saban fans.
When he (odds are) gets past Georgia, he'll have over a month to prepare for Notre Dame. Nick Saban is possibly the best game planer in the country. I would worry Irish fans.
Georgia will find a way to beat Alabama, and then ND will beat Georgia to be national champs.
Georgia will beat Alabama, but a frustrated Bama player will rough Murray at the very end, injuring him and leaving him out of the title game.
Congrats to ND and Jack Swarbrick for having the foresight to hire Brian Kelly in 2009. A lot of old time MGobloggers were clamoring for BK to get hired back in 2007 but we got what we got as Sailor Bill was perfecting his squash game. I doubt ND survives the SEC winner but still an amazing job in just 3 short years. I only wish we had the same expectations for our own program. Alas, even the holy grail of a Big10 Championship has eluded us for nearly a decade now.
I'd prefer our coach not needlessly endanger kids and ignore rape accusations, personally.
Oh, fuck you.
This just in: SEC announces they will begin negotiations to include Notre Dame for football immediately by giving them $500 million dollars and a giant gold statue of Jesus slapping Nick Saban with a fish so that the National Championship Game will be another SEC vs. SEC matchup.
Not sour grapes. Which is the worst 12-0 team ever? ND or Ohio St?
Not even close.
Please let the Mayans be right. Please let the Mayans be right. Please let the Mayans be right.
Four Horsemen of the apocalypse
To make things EVEN worse, Duke won in hoops. Everything i hate in sports won today.
Can't remember a worse sports day.
The Horror. Not much argument there.
Might make us #3, so at least that has a silver lining. Though I'd assume Duke jumps us.
and the LA Lakers and Manchester United won too! And somewhere the Yankees took a good, hard look at acquiring Josh Hamilton
Don't talk about Jerry kill like that
That fourth down call either... Run the best outside runner....outside. Sorry to joke, hope your dogs ok :(
But with 14 teams in the conference and ND going away, no one wants to do a home-home with Michigan. I don't want tomato cans. I want real football, but no real team will come here.
It'll be directional michigan schools and some tomato can now that ND is leaving. We'll probably go to 9-conference games which will reduce the ooc schediule by one and one home game.
Whoever decided we should play Nebraska, ND and OSU on the road in the same year should be fired!
But these are two different issues. Scheduling home-and-homes makes it harder to get to eight home games, not easier. If we start loading up on bodybag games in September, we'll be regularly playing eight home games per year. Even if the league goes to a nine-game schedule, that still leaves three OOC slots available.
I didn't even think of that! How much would this loss burn inside our souls if we too were undefeated? Or if only we won that Nebraska game, championship on the line, lose to Ohio? How happy the bucs wouldve been to ruin that, the year they go undefeated, and cant have a postseason? We would never hear the end of it. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.... [email protected] Ohio
I'd like to think Nick Saban will draw up a masterful game plan and destroy Notre Dame. But I swear, Notre Dame is like a team of destiny this year. They just don't fucking lose. Their front seven is as good if not better than Bama's. And their offense, while not overly potent, just doesn't make mistakes and shoot itself in the foot like it did all of last year.
I could so easily see a situation where Alabama moves the ball at will but inexplicably fumbles the ball four times and hands the national championship to Notre Dame. Or they have to consistently settle for field goals inside the Notre Dame 10 yd line because that's all they can get against that front seven.
I see a 17-12 Notre Dame kind of win. Unless Georgia pulls the upset over Bama and takes their spot in the title game. At which point I'd just hand the crystal football to Notre Dame.
I'm just waiting now
It's kind of fitting that ND will get spanked by 'Bama in the end after Michigan got their beating to start the season.
Don't worry ND will play bama and get curb stomped, ass raped or whatever you want to call it. You can book that!!!
Georgia will be Bama and ND will destroy Georgia because the Dawgs always fold up like a cheap suit in bowl games.
"like a cheap table?"
But I think we all know that Nick Saban is the devil.
I am hoping that Alabama curb stomps them like they did that lucky 11 win Michigan State team in 2010. ND caught so many breaks this year, and nothing would make me happier than ND putting up 42 points in the first half on them.
You mean Bama?
Thanks for locking that in
Thanks alot, I had to have a lot of therapy to remove that from my memory.
Oh crap! My facial tick is back! Just one more joy for the day!
if georgia beats bama ........ Come on SEC Kill the irish. I mean kill them, humiliate them ,run the score up please, this season cant go on like this. I hate Saban and i dont trust Georgia to beat the Irish. Roll Tide.
I will feel a lot better. Saban has always been thought of as satan anyway and he'll do whatever it takes to win.
This would be the ONLY time I would root for satan.
Pain, death, etc.
- I couldn't stomach the potential for another all SEC final.
- Bama is going to roll ND.
I can't remember the last time a WCO team won a championship. Hasn't happened since at least, well...never mind.
But you're right. The average team is very average.
Alabama- 2 national titles in 3 years; 36-4 record.
If that's average, I'll take it.
Because only then would we forget that we have 1 NC in the past 70 years playing "manball".
We aren't Alabama. Michigan is in the talent barren area that is the midwest so we will never recruit as well as they do.
The Michigan of today should not be held to the same ethos as the Michigan of the 1970s, 1980s, or even 1990s. We cannot shoehorn ourselves into a particular style of play but rather employ whatever scheme is necessary to win, be it "manball" or "basketball on grass".
Glad you guys are so confident. Our D is pretty good, or so I hear.
Just imagine the imagary. Sab(t)an vs the Catholics! So rich.
Our only losses came to the 2 teams in the BCS National Championship, an undefeated team that would be in that game if they weren't under sanctions, and the probable B1G champion. The loss to Bama was obviously a straight up loss. The loss to ND was due to 5 turnovers. The loss to Nebraska wouldn't have happened, in my oppinion, if it wasn't for Denards injury. Today, I firmly believe we were the better team. Turnovers killed us again, and of course, the questionable playcalling didn't help.
Having said that, forget the past. I'm excited to play a good team in the Capitol One Bowl and I can't wait for next year. I'm sure Brady Hoke will put emphasis on taking care of the ball during practices leading up to the bowl and during spring practices. Also, I only see the offense improving with Borges being able to focus on just one quarterback who fits his offense more than Denard. With next years schedule, I can see us running the table.
Always look on the bright side of life.
the ass-kicking our hockey team took tonight. Worst sports day in a long time.
The Bama OL will control ND's front seven. The D will contain Golson and create at least two turnovers. ND's defense tires out due to Bama's depth at RB and McCarron lights up ND's secondary (few big plays off PA).
I especially love the live pub report from South Bend
I wish I were making that up
I hate life right now
Thank goodness for alcohol. Oh what the fuck, tonight I am in Colorado, maybe I should smoke some weed?
Double fuck me, my first double post. I definitely should smoke some weed.
...we know how this ends:
...better summon all the power of Christianity they can muster to pray for Georgia to win the SEC title game. If ND played 'Bama next week I doubt they'd score, but Saban with a month to prepare for a true freshman QB?
I mean, if Saban had a week to prepare for a freshamn QB, he'd get his butt kicked.
But a whole month?!?!? No chance for that freshman QB.
Golson isn't really a freshman anymore really. 12 games into the season.
ND probably could beat anyone this year, and that includes Bama. No matter how suspect they might have appeared to us in September and October, they've developed into a very, very good team.
As much as I despise the Irish, though, and admit they would be insufferable if they win the BCS Championship, wouldn't it be great to see the Ess Eee Cee go down? Saban especially?
Yes but by anybody but ND. That's a completely different world of annoying that the SEC hasn't even reached.
I've got this new philosophy on life. Just accept things will probably never go your way. Accept that you will never be truly happy. Accept that no matter how hard or how badly you work for something some other low life bastard will take it from you. Accept that no matter how much you want something to happen it will not go the way you desire. Accept that drink some beers and just run out the clock on the rest of your time on this big round ball...peace out ladies.
but I think this opens up my perspective to a whole new dimension of bleak.
Losses to ND and OSU, both whom have undefeated seasons. This is hell.
now takes on new, sad meaning.
Wow. The World really is going to end this year.
Good for them. I've never held the same anger toward ND as other programs, and they went undefeated against a tough schedule. They deserve to play for the title. I expect them to be housed by whichever SEC team they play, but I have no reason to discredit what they did this year.
I still do not care for the man. But I noted here weeks ago that he was to be given credit for being a passing spread guru willing to be conservative and let his D win for him, making fewer unforced errors than all of his opponents. Now I would add a couple more points to his credit:
How patient but steady he has been with his quarterbacks (this year). He knew the talents of his quarterbacks and used them both to full advantage. Last night was the first time I have seen him start to unleash his passing spread offense, and he let it develop very slowly through the season. Golson looks ready to be great for the next 3 years.
No recent purple faces. He has seemed relaxed with his players and with the media this year. Maybe I have not watched enough, but surely the stress must be high.
For the past 2 seasons, I would not have known he even had assistant coaches. Now I hear his coordinators getting some credit. He even ran out of the tunnel next to one of them last night. He is growing into the HC position, and just in time.
Plus he look like Jack Bauer only more horizontal.
Brian Kelly will be in the NFL within two years. Great coaching job this season.
Remember at the beginning of the year when we thought ND's schedule was a gauntlet? Still a tough schedule after it played out but not nearly as testing as we thought it'd be. MSU sucked worse than anybody could have imagined, our offense struggled more than we thought it would, Oklahoma is not very good this year and USC is a poop sniffer and played a frosh QB against them. Stanford was the only very good team they faced this year IMO. But still, kudos to them for being able to pulls wins out of their sphincter ala OSU 2002 & 2012
First off, tough loss yesterday. I was rooting for you guys.. [email protected] Urban Meyer, he's a classless liar. Those turnovers are frustrating, I can empathize.
Secondly, wow, there is some serious Saban love in here. I get it.. You want to see our "Christmas ornament" helmets driven into the ground for four quarters by the almighty tide. I felt the same way in week 1 when you guys faced them.. I never understood why Hoke didn't let Denard run wild in that game.. It was like he was scared Bama was going to hurt him and your conference championship chances would fly out the window. Little did he know Gardner was going to end up being the better all around QB.
If bama beats Georgia, my Irish will go in as the under-dog, agreed. But, that's how we went into Norman, with the pressure on Oklahoma. Make no mistake, the pressure will be on Bama to "crush" us non-SEC piss-ons.
But, they are beatable, Ta&m showed us that. It's no secret that Kelly has been speeding up the tempo of our offense every week. We will attempt to run a similair gameplan as Ta&m and Saban will look to correct the issues that lost him that game. There is plenty of time for both teams to develop solid game-plans. Georgia would be the easier opponent IMO but Vegas would prob still have us +6. These guys have earned their shot and will put up one hell of a fight no matter the opponent.
Look on the bright side of the future Wolverines. You guys are building the trenches up with young studs. Kalis, Magnuson, Bosch, Pipkins, Taco etc.. I believe Treadwell is a must have b/c he could start next season and have a huge impact offensively. You guys also need a featured back in this class.. is the staff involved with any other than Deveon Smith?
We'll see you guys early next season.. WEEK 2.
np, alabama will rip them a new on on the biggest stage.
I am in total CFB misery.
Ohio State is undefeated and ND is going to play an SEC team for the National Championship. With our luck, Dantonio will probably win the Heisman.
Fuck it. Let's go win the Hoops National Championship.
