Not so cryptic update from Tremendous re: Maurice Hurst Jr.?

Submitted by Randy Marsh on

We all appreciate the updates from Aqua over at his Tremendous blog, and he has an update on 2013 DL Maurice Hurst Jr. The following part sticks out:

"Anyways. Why am I posting this update? I talked with Maurice for a split second tonight, who said he plans on visiting in a couple weeks. I also talked to a current commitment and they informed me that Maurice plans to commit to Michigan when he makes that visit."

I wouldn't take this kind of tweet too seriously.  His dad might have been teasing him, he might have been exaggerating his dad's comments to tease his dad, or any combination of 1,000 other possibilities.  By all accounts, Jr. seems to be a great kid.  I suspect that his dad deserves some credit for that.

His dad is clearly wrong. Everyone knows the highest goal in college football is to win the Big Ten, and Michigan has a much better chance than either LSU or Bama to do that. It's a no-brainier

Doesnt this kid car greatly about academics?  That could be the reason why he is so interested in Michigan.  Which may explain offer like Vandy and Duke.

FWIW....

rankings are very similar for this kid.  This kid is pretty darn good.....

247 - #19 DT, 4*

Scout - #23 DT, 4*

Rivals - #24 DT, 3*

Also, correct me if i am wrong, but i believe Rivals is now the most outdated as 247 has done 2 updates (although both minor), and scout 1 update since Rivals last updated.  Rivals has also handed out the least amount of 4*'s at this point.  Hurst has a high chance of being a low 4* across the board soon.

A #20 DT in the nation?  Yes please!

Holy smokes.  The comments about his highlight tape being ridiculous are right on.  That kid can move.  He can be extremely quick off the ball, and has great agility and speed for someone his size.  Regardless of his competition, He is quite an athlete and really gets after the ball carrier.  Don't understand how anyone could rank him as a 3*.

Really hope he decides on Michigan.  With some time in the weight room and better technique, this kid could be scary in a couple years.

Hurst seems like a very similar player to Elijah Qualls.  Any experts want to weigh in on whom they would rather have?  Qualls' offensive highlights are unbelievable for a kid his size.  I say we grab both, put them both on offense.  Convert some of our guard prospects to TE, and play Shallman as our primary back with Houma coming off the bench as our speed back.

I think he was a DB under Parcells (the before brady or belichick era).

I think he was OK--at least I don't remember Parcells being down on him like he was on that former Ohio DB (Terry Glenn), who Parcells used to call "she."

The kids has things you can't teach. Plus he says he's already up to 297. Get him, coach him up and watch him tear through OLs like chicken wings. Reminds me of a bigger Ingram(from South Carolina). Not doing the camp circuit his rankings won't jump but who cares, kid has talent.
