Not OT today

On a day when our football team got a much-needed boost, Military Appreciation Day was held at Michigan Stadium, a wonderful tribute to those men and women who serve to protect us and our way of life.  For those who were not at the stadium, the pregame program included members of the Wounded Warriors Project and Gold Star families. The Caledonian Pipe Band played "Amazing Grace" in honor of those who gave their lives in service to our country.  Each branch of the military, veterans and those presently serving, were also honored during the game.  A well-deserved recognition.

The sacrifices of these fellow citizens humble me more than I can express in words. And they should remind all of us that freedom is not free.

God bless our soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen and Coast Guard members and their families. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service.

I think it being late, people weren't expecting it to come then. I don't think it was as publicized as some of the others, except for on MGoBlog. So a lot of people around me weren't expecting it like I was. Even I wasn't ready for how fast they'd be coming, but in the SW corner where I am, when they come in that low, they're practically over and past by the time I can spot them. And the guy said he liked when he's surprised...I think this would have qualified.

I sit high on the west sideline so I always have a clear view of the flight pattern when they're coming in from the south right at us.  After we had stopped looking for them, someone spotted them and said, very casually, "Oh, here they come." Like I said, perspective is everything. Wish I'd seen it from your point of view, I probably would have been surprised and enjoyed it more.

Other thing I liked today was the return of the Big 10 flagpoles. There are now 6 on each side of the stadium; right now 10 of them represent the other schools in the conference with 2 flying Michigan banners. Obviously one of the Michigan flags will give way to one from Nebraska next season.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time that all the Big 10 banners have been up at Michigan Stadium since they were first replaced by American flags on September 22, 2001 and then displaced by stadium expansion.

Kudos to whoever made the call to restore that bit of Michigan Stadium tradition.
