Not OT: Cal Beats Syracuse
Cal just beat Syracuse by 14 points and SMU lost to IU earlier by 6. Michigans schedule just lost 2 ranked teams in a few hours. This makes me feel much better about the next 10 games. In the end you have to win your games but does this make those to games must wins especially since their at home. Discuss

On the flip side, beating those teams doesn't mean as much... But I feel better about the schedule bc of the losses as well.

Why would you feel much better about the next games if we're playing teams that are no longer ranked and the games become must win?
SMU and Syracuse are however good they are, the ranking has no impact on the actual team you play on the floor so the game is no easier or harder now that they've lost. So wouldn't we all want them to win as many games as possible other than the game against us?

True but it makes me feel more confident. Doesnt change anything for the team though

It's true that the teams stay as good as they always were, but we now have more information as to how good they actually are. And that information tells us that they're not as likely to be great, and thus not as likely to beat us.
Think about it like this. There's a christmas present under the tree waiting for you. You're not sure whether it's an x-box or a lump of coal. But you find some receipts on mom's desk for an x-box. Finding those receipts doesn't change what's in the box, but you're damn happy you found them, because they're a good indicator of what you're going to find when you open that box.

The transitive property never works, but Beilein & Co. will have them ready regardless.
I'll never forget Jordan Morgan's dunk, every time someone utters the word Syracuse.

Everyone thought that 2-3 zone was going to shut us out. And lo, we beat it soundly. Whenever I remember this game I picture Dave Chapelle as Rick James saying "F*ck your 2-3 zone"

I tend to think of it as the moment that Syracuse became so proficient at the 2-3 zone that they themselves got lost in it. If it is possible to defend yourself from getting buckets, only a team so good at its own style of play could achieve such a thing. Just a crazy theory of mine, of course.

yet. Clear this team has a little way to go. Hope someone like Zak gets the hot hand early against Oregon.

How about this though? Bucknell was tied with #12 Villanova with under a minute to go. Some questionable no-calls hurt Bucknell and they ended up losing by 7 after a free throw parade.
Says a lot about our blow out victory.
Edit: Just saw the topic below this about the game - sorry for the duplicate.

The way we played yesterday, I wouldn't be surprised if we lose to both. We are so young and inconsistent.
Until Chatman rotates on defense, until Wilson uses his feet instead of his hands to play defense, and Donnall gets over his Paul Davis Syndrome (not too late), we are going to see a lot of the "experienced" lineup.
I also can't wait for Dawkins to learn the system a little better, I hope he doesn't redshirt and comes on strong by B1G season.
We are going to see a lot of Walton, SPike, Irvin, Caris, and Max....a lineup I love, but we will need to get them some rest throughout the year.

Haas went off again, 32 points on 9 for 12 shooting. Dude can ball.

I wonder if he might be a candidate for taking a 5th year here or at MSU. He's from northern Michigan somewhere (Petoskey?). I wonder if he's pondering a return home. He certainly looks like he could play in the Big Ten

The Freshmen on the team are playing just like that - Freshmen. The last two games have been fun to watch but this team is going to take awhile to jell. IThe coaches don't have a ton of confidence, yet, with the young guns. And the guns don't have a lot of confidence in themselves.
Give them another six or seven games and I think they'll be fine. We may not go as deep on the bench as we thought this summer but this team will be fun to watch.
