Not OT(!?) - Anybody watch Golf Channel tonight?

Submitted by Section 1 on

How could watching the Chevron Tiger Woods Target World Challenge presented by Northwestern Mutual on the Golf Channel have any relation to Michigan football?  Talking about Iowa native Zach Johnson, Frank Nobilo mentioned that he had been to see Iowa play football "in the Big House."  "It wasn't close," Nobilo said.  "I've never been in a 120,000-seat stadium..."

So who was the lucky MGoBlogger who hosted Frank Nobilo on senior day at Michigan Stadium?  Was it golf fan and frequent sponsor Al Glick and Alro Steel?

Update:  Not Al Glick!  Alro Steel has better seats than the top rows of Section 39.  But obviously Frank Nobilo has some good friends in Michigan.  Picture in his Twitter feed:

Maybe this is just Section 1's coming out party, where he reveals himself to be an insecure look-at-me poster who's going to refer to himself in the 3rd person until somebody bothers to guess that he's the one who hosted whatever Golf Channel schlub we're supposed to be impressed by.

Alright, alright.  I know its the day after but calm down everyone.

That said, this wasn't one of Section 1's better posts.  If only because 95% of us either have no idea who that guy is and/or do not care.  But its technically an on-topic post since it deals with Michigan football.

Section 1, for future reference, I think you'll get a much better reception if you host Kate Upton next year instead:   [NOTE:  No bewbs.]

No, its Michigan Stadium.  Keith Jackson threw the "Big House" out once and it became a thing.  Yes, Michigan Stadium is big and I know everyone now calls it the Big House, but to be honest with you Big House means the State Penitentiary.  I prefer calling our team's home by its real name, not a nickname for a prison. .    .  ..

more people don't know who Frank Nobilo is and was.

The best New Zealand golfer of his generation maybe.  Frank was one of golf's top 50 players for about 4 years in the mid-90's before his career tailed off due to injury.  He had a half dozen top 10 the majors and looked sure to break through at some point.

He's been an announcer on the golf channel for about 10 years now, distinctive voice.

Not sure why there is so much criticism of this thread.

It's kind of a slow news week / day outside of recruiting threads.  I, for one, actually think that it's cool when a non-Michigan person talks positively about our great school / stadium, etc.

...that the exact same OP, word for word, posted by another MGoMember, would have developed an entirely different thread.

"It's personal" would seem to be the best explanation.  Complete, as usual, with the de rigueur reference(s) to "RichRod" out of nowhere, which sort of tips you off as to the origin of the criticism.

Maybe the fanboize would have chilled if I had given them a Twit-pic.  Words are, like, so 20th century.

But as we both know, it's just because I posted it.  Honestly, I was just watching golf from California (a pretty good field, too) at 11:30 in the evening, and all of a sudden Frank Nobilo is talking about "the Big House."  I couldn't resist starting a thread.  For no particular reason, I wondered if it had been an Al Glick thing.  One of Al Glick's first forays into sport-sponsorship (after Indy racing, if I recall correctly) was his sponsorship of Dave Hill, the former Jackson (MI) Country Club pro who set the golf world on fire by almost winning the U.S. Open at Hazeltine (Tony Jacklin won) and calling it a "cow pasture" in the process.
