Northwestern game ticket question

Submitted by yoopergoblue on

So a few buddies and I decided tonight to head down to the Michigan-Northwestern game on October 8th.  Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the conference games.  I was wondering how the experience is at NW and whether it is worth springing for the sideline seats vs. the endzone/corner seats.  I am still amazed that endzone seats are only $35 and sideline are $50.  The only worry I would have for the sideline seats are if we got stuck way up top and the view of the field was bad.  Any help is appreciated!

The field isn't very big, being at the top of the sideline, is like being 2/3 of the way up Michigan Stadium.  The only bad thing I remember is that the sideline seats that are near the end zone are angled a little funny and you don't have the greatest view of the opposite end zone.

It's always a great time going to the Michigan/NW game because the majority of the stadium are Michigan fans. Its definitely worth going and whether it's sideline or end zone you are not going to be that high and will have a good view. It's a game I never miss.

I don't really care about the NFL outside of the Lions and even then I don't watch full games. I have slight optimism this year, but I will believe it when I see it. It's not being fare-weather if there has never been any good weather.

its a small stadium so all spots are good. parking can be a pain at time though. if you want autographs. the gate where the bus is parked is usually open after the game and tons of autographs can be had.

I've never been to Northwestern, have heard nothing but good things from everyone and am making my 1st trip.  Going to make a long weekend of it.

I ordered my tix through Michigan - where are the visitor seats located?

I ordered Michigan/NW tickets once before from the Michigan ticket office and would never do it again. I ended up getting placed in their upper deck. Ever since then I always purchase them from NW and theyre always in the lower level around the 15 yd line and in or in the end zone. Hopefully your tickets will be in the lower level but I know there is always a Michigan section in the upper deck.

I grabbed mine through the alumni deal a while back and ended up with some decent seats in a very highly MGoPopulated area. Anyone know when we should expect these tickets in the mail?

Also, anyone know some good places around NW's campus to eat?

If you're anyhwere near Wrigley Field, I suggest Lucky's Sandwiches. They serve fries on the sandwich, and it was literally the best sandwich I have ever had in my life. It's a pain in the ass to park there, especially if the Cubs are playing, but well worth it. I also highly suggest taking in a Cubs game, though since we play NW in October that won't be a possibility on this trip.

So I assume you would be more likely to get placed with other Michigan fans if you buy them through the Michigan ticket office?  Or is there so many Michigan fans there that it really doesn't matter?

but typically the east stands are pretty much all Michigan fans to about the end zone and the west stands are where the NW fans predominantly sit. There are also some areas in the upper deck where Michigan fans sit. I've been to a few Michigan/NW games where there had to have been more Michigan fans than NW fans

I always sit with a guy who is a professor at the NW med school in the so-called NW section around the 30 yl just south of the student section.  You cannot turn around without literally bumping into a Michigan fan.  Probably 50-60% of the stadium is UM - doesnt really matter where you sit.

You can also try stub hub.

The game is a night game this year on Yom Kippur, should be pretty easy to get tickets.

Is Mustard's Last Stand. Typical Chicago hotdog place, serving up Vienna's, etc. Definately a good spot.

Also, Buffalo Joe's is a popular wing spot with two locations in Evanston... However, Evanston is a suburb of one of the greatest food cities in the US, so you might want to just head into Chicago.

It's a small stadium.  I don't think you should have too many viewing problems...

Although, looking at the end zone seats, they look farther from the field than what folks are used to at home games...

I've been to 25 games at the big house but I still have yet to see a road game in person.  Northwestern would be my first choice mainly because there's about the same number of Michigan fans there as Wildcat fans.

Typically yes but usually they aren't very expensive online such as through eBay. Probably best to get them tomorrow if you can. The longer you wait the higher you'll be and the closer to the end zone you'll be. Also since it is a much smaller stadium and due to the amount of Michigan fans that go I wouldn't wait very long

at least once ... except the horse(shit)shoe, have NO desire to go there at all.   Going to NW and Iowa this year, last year was IU and Penn State.  Nothing quite like going into enemy territory!   Lot of fun at the tailgate though, the opposing fans tailgating around you are "normally" partying too.

Next year, Nebraska and hopefully Dallas .... I know not a B1G stadium or opponent, but I've never even been in Texas!

I went to the last game UM played at Ryan about 4 yrs ago. We sat in the visitors section near one of the top corners opposite the pressbox. Gotta say its an awsome place to watch a game since it really is like watching a college game at a nice, big HS stadium. And you can walk down to the concourse whenever you like and watch the game at just about field level- pretty damn cool. Probably shoudn't say since I'm going to try to get a few tix myself for this one but anyone who hasn't seen UM play here is missing out. Plus of course being just about in Chicago afterword makes it even cooler, assuming you're staying the night.

They originally sold out the same day it was posted on here about the promotion but the next day they released more and I remember quite a few people getting them that next day. Not sure how fast those went though but more were provided after the initial posting.
