Norfleet not dismissed from team.

Submitted by Mitchamaniac on
Sam Webb just said on WTKA reports of him being dismissed are false, but he is suspended. I didn't see anywhere on the board that this was common knowledge. If so delete.

was quoted as saying he was dismissed. However, simply being suspended seems like the more usual punishment for one semester's academic screwups.

I hope that they can work stuff out and Norfleet can stay on the team. He can still be a valuable contributor.

Doesn't matter at all to me and downvotes don't automatically mean somebody's a jackass.

MIght be because I said yesterday that I didn't share the veneration of DN the way some do, which is not the same thing as saying I want him off the team or can't be a contributor. I'm not a fan of the dancing, but that's a personal opinion and not relevant to the situation.

Bo kicked people off the team to make a point all the time. Then said players adjusted their attitude or focused in on whatever got them kicked off or stopped breaking team rules, and they were back on the team.

This may be how Harbaugh operates to some extent as well, and may be a new experience from the milk and cookies "you meant to do it the right way" experience of the last coaching staff.

I think the lesson to players, former high school coaches, and the media is: don't over blow it until the player figures out if they really, really are kicked off, or they are being disciplined with an opportunity to come back.

In any event, I haz a not so sad ... come on 'Fleet get you act together. We want more Atomic Dog!

All the more reason to hope that a good coaching staff and a degree will set him up to be a more responsible father and have a life after football. This is a young man whose father was in prison around the time he joined Michigan, and who has a learning disability and suffered from lead poisoning as a child. I'm rooting for him to get on the right track.

Dennis Norfleet situation is still up in the air we are working with him and the UofM staff to put Dennis in the best situation to graduate.

Like I said yesterday, there is more to the story. It isn't all about academics. Confirmed by John Borton at The Wolverine.

Although a lot of major outlets ran with the "dismissed" tag yesterday, the DetNews article did mention that there was ongoing tutoring still happening, as I recall, and that Norfleet has about 90 credits under his belt right now.

Interestingly, in the same article, Coach Harvel sort of lamented that Michigan may not have been the best fit for Norfleet from a football perspective in his opinion, but he would still love to see him graduate from Michigan, if it works out that way.

Whatever you might think of his career to date at Michigan, I would like to see him graduate in the Big House if possible too.

Absolutely.

Whatever you think of him as a football player let's remember he's a young man and it's good for us all of we can get him his degree instead of seeing a kid tank. Just IMHO. We don't know what's going on behind the scenes with a kid who had been an pretty good guy for his stint here.

Here's what I do know. As of last Friday he was done as a football player. As of yesterday, things took a turn. Here's a quote from his H.S. Coach: "This isn't a Jim Harbaugh issue, it's a Brady Hoke issue.''

Fast forward to today, sources close to Norfleet say they will be shocked if he plays this year. UM Football Spokesman David Ablauf responds with "this is an internal matter." When specifically asked whether Norfleet was still part of the team or suspended, Ablauf said, "That is all we are providing."

Lots of moving parts here and more will come out over the course of a week or so.

Because of his atomic dog dance or because of his high school 7 on 7 skills?

He hasnt done anything to help this team win games, not sure what all the hullabaloo is about...

Right -- every time he touched the ball it resulted in negative yardage.

Seriously, did you see any of the end-arounds or screen passes that went for 6-7 yards? I'd say those helped the team.

As well, he was a spirited player and by all accounts a hard worker.

In summary, a useful 3-star utility type ... not a waste.

Agreed. He's not a regular game-changer, but he has some skills that nobody else really has on the team, other than Jabrill Peppers and maybe Jourdan Lewis, both of whom have full-time jobs on defense.

hard to believe that you are truly a football coach. You are telling me, that the only contribution a player can make to helping a team win is by making big plays on game day? Do you know how he works in practice? If he is pushing the guys ahead of him for playing time....I would say that is a contribution. If he was being a leader...that is a contribution. A football coach ought to know that if the scout team is doing its job, they are helping the team win. You may not like his dancing, you may think he is overrated as a player, but to say he hasn't done anything to help this team win games is ignorant.

Do you care about all the players on your team? Even the ones that have no chance of contributing on game day? Or are they expendable to you?
