Noon Starts Open Thread
We'll get this one started -
BTN has Eastern Michigan / Michigan State or Purdue versus Southern Illinois
ESPN is going with Georgia Tech versus Virginia Tech
ESPN2 will be taking on Bowling Green versus Wisconsin
ESPNU will be curing insomia with Iowa and Pitt
ESPNNEWS, supposedly, will carry Western Illinois versus Northwestern
ESPN3 is carrying its normal grab bag - Maryland / Syracuse, Duke / Tulane, Marhsall / Akron and others.

The only possible explanation as to why Devin Gardner has not put up Vince Young numbers is because the offensive line has thwarted all of his efforts while simultaneously going back in time and causing the housing marktet crash.

Well iowa doesn't play press...

4th and 10 here for Pitt
September 20th, 2014 at 2:58 PM ^
Iowa ball 1:37 to go, Pitt with 3 TOs. Just need 1 first down. Two very nice defensive plays by their DBs this drive.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:00 PM ^
Well, this is a nice bonus. I didn't think I got ESPNU. BIG TEN!

Flyovers starting up here in Saline. We usually get them about a half hour before they're due at the Stadium. It's kinda loud.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:07 PM ^
So they come from the south? Any idea what base they fly out of?

- The better the teams in your conference do, the better it looks when you beat them...
- The better the conference is perceived nationwide - which will affect your team when it comes to selection committees (which is most NCAA sports)...
- The better the teams in your conference, the higher the profile for recruits...
I can understand not giving a shit about conference pride. But there are plenty of other reasons to want your conference to do well...and most of them are selfish reasons to help whatever team it is you root for.
If Michigan goes 11-1, you're going to be BEGGING for the conference to do well, because right now...they're still on the outside of the tournament. If MSU, OSU, Nebraska, and the conference get better and look good. Then that may be enough to push us into the tournament.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:13 PM ^
I have a hybrid strategy - I root for other Big 10 teams not named MSU and OSU. Maybe PSU if they become relevant and compete in our division. I dont have much hate for a Nebraska Wisconsin Iowa etc. So I'll root for 12 teams and pass on 2.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:17 PM ^
I'm with you except I can't root for Maryland or Rutgers either. So there are 4 B1G teams I'd like to see lose every week.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
You know, is anyone else a little intimidated by Iowa's ballsy play here? Multiple safety blitzes with the game on the line, two fourth down attempts when a FG would tie. And the guys are executing. Beathard stepping into collapsed pockets and tight DB play. They look good.

If any coach in the nation should be taking chances it is Ferentz. He is never playing for a NC and he has the most crazy contract out there so not like anyone will fire him for acting like The Hat (tm). Instead he is usually Mr. Conservative.

Iowa has this in the bag, nice win.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:09 PM ^
As Pitt moves the ball down the field in the last minute.

Raining in Ann Arbor - probably a good thing for us with Utah's passing being their strength.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:04 PM ^
Iowa with clutch play down the stretch? What is this?

Well that is win #2 for the big 10 vs Power 5 - thanks Iowa Rutgers. UM can be #3.

That was a strange series of events. Glad it worked out for the 'Gers.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:19 PM ^
What happened?
September 20th, 2014 at 3:09 PM ^
Oh wait Pitt has the ball somehow with 20 seconds.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:10 PM ^
Iowa INT. BIG 10!
September 20th, 2014 at 3:12 PM ^
Beathard should be Iowa's QB moving forward.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:12 PM ^
Just like we drew it up.
That was really bad.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:13 PM ^
Was there even a Pitt receiver in the shot? That was fugly.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:17 PM ^
I did see about four iowa players.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:14 PM ^
Great for them.

Well, GA Tech is Undefeated..
September 20th, 2014 at 3:21 PM ^
Why would any power conference team ever schedule Eastern? What a wasted week for MSU.
September 20th, 2014 at 3:30 PM ^
Go blue!
September 20th, 2014 at 3:23 PM ^
I think we are going to see a much improved team today! Go Blue!

How pathetic were these noon games? MSU scores 73, UGA wins 66-0, Wisconsin at 68. Whatever happened to scheduling remotely competitive opponents?
September 20th, 2014 at 3:29 PM ^
The non-conference cupcake is as old as college football itself, my friend.
