Noon Starts Open Thread

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

We'll get this one started -

BTN has Eastern Michigan / Michigan State or Purdue versus Southern Illinois

ESPN is going with Georgia Tech versus Virginia Tech

ESPN2 will be taking on Bowling Green versus Wisconsin

ESPNU will be curing insomia with Iowa and Pitt

ESPNNEWS, supposedly, will carry Western Illinois versus Northwestern

ESPN3 is carrying its normal grab bag - Maryland / Syracuse, Duke / Tulane, Marhsall / Akron and others.

I'm not a big root for the big ten, I never understood the whole root for the conference that your team is in. But I really want to see Iowa and Nebraska win today!

  • The better the teams in your conference do, the better it looks when you beat them...
  • The better the conference is perceived nationwide - which will affect your team when it comes to selection committees (which is most NCAA sports)...
  • The better the teams in your conference, the higher the profile for recruits...

I can understand not giving a shit about conference pride. But there are plenty of other reasons to want your conference to do well...and most of them are selfish reasons to help whatever team it is you root for.

If Michigan goes 11-1, you're going to be BEGGING for the conference to do well, because right now...they're still on the outside of the tournament. If MSU, OSU, Nebraska, and the conference get better and look good. Then that may be enough to push us into the tournament.

You know, is anyone else a little intimidated by Iowa's ballsy play here? Multiple safety blitzes with the game on the line, two fourth down attempts when a FG would tie. And the guys are executing. Beathard stepping into collapsed pockets and tight DB play. They look good.

MSU has used many combinations at offensive line today. Many guys who don't normally play the position they were at. Same with playing receivers who are buried on the depth chart and multiple running backs. Eastern is just that bad. We played 4th string guys and couldn't help but score. Shouldn't play Eastern but they were scheduled many years ago.

How pathetic were these noon games?  MSU scores 73, UGA wins 66-0, Wisconsin at 68.  Whatever happened to scheduling remotely competitive opponents?
