One hour til game time. The Schedule (sorted by my interest):
  • Iowa @ Iowa State (FSN)
  • Central Michigan @ Michigan State (ESPN2)
  • Syracuse @ Penn State (BTN)
  • Fresno State @ Wisconsin (ESPN)
  • North Carolina @ Connecticut (ESPNU)
  • Duke @ Army (CBS College Sports)
  • Stanford @ Wake Forest (Raycom)
  • Western Michigan @ Indiana (BTN)
  • Troy @ Florida (SEC Network)
  • Pittsburgh @ Buffalo (ESPN Plus)
  • Eastern Michigan @ Northwestern (BTN)
The top game may be for nothing more than schadenfreude. To quote BHGP's preview:
Running game? Um... yeah, about that. Here's a pretty quick list of all Iowa needs to establish the ground game tomorrow. 1. Open holes 2. A competent running back 3. Clever gameplanning to maximize mismatches In short: FUCK WE ARE FUCKED.
CMU@MSU should go easily to the Spartans, but I'm hoping Lefevour makes a better showing than he did against Arizona. Syracuse@Penn State may actually be more interesting than the CMU/MSU game, but I'm not sure I can handle another channel rehashing all of the "OMG Paulus" information. That and I don't get the BTN.

That's on my radar and not just b/c I live in Portland. The story lines are intriguing: Does Oregon really suck? Has the coach "lost" the team? Is Purdue as good as the score from the Toledo game might now indicate? How does the Big Ten stack up against BSC opponents. Sadly, even the game out here is only on Foxsports Pacific and only after the Mariners game ends. EDIT: I know it isn't a nooner, but it's all I had.

I don't think Oregon is as bad as folks are making them out to be. Purdon't wasn't good last year; if they make it to a Bowl this year, Coach Hope deserves serious Coach of the Year mention. Yikes! I just checked out their schedule, that's a tough row to hoe, good luck Boilers. For us, it would be cool to have another big time game on the schedule, certainly would look good on our resume.

Here in Grand Rapids the Florida - Troy game is on Fox Sports Detroit, but looks like it's on something called the SEC Network. Did I miss something? ESPN - Wisconsin/Fresno ESPN2 - MSU/CMU ABC13 - Pitt/Buffalo BTN - PSU/Syracuse FSN - Florida Troy BTN XTRA: WMU/Indiana EMU/N'Western That is alot of televised football. Wiscy/Troy seems like the best matchup of the bunch.

Watching MSU run its offense, I can totally see why they get murdered when they play any team with similar talent. It is based purely on "manning up" and running the 1970's-style Big 10 offense. It works against CMU and Montana St., but it is so predictable that if you have a decent cover-corner for their one WR and some DLs who can stand up the line, you can stop them. Just no big play ability on this team, and the scheme is nothing to write home about. And now I'm just rambling - hell, I went to MSU and I just cannot stand how they play football.

States defense made a nice stand deep vs. CMU, but CMU is moving the ball well on the perimeters. States defense looks slow. Go Chips.

I'm watching the UCONN game, and it seems that the Huskies have a decent little bend but don't break defense. The offense is young and prone to turnovers though. From the looks of it, the UCONN defense is quick and engages in pretty good ball pursuit in the open field, but is vulnerable to larger, more athletic teams right now.

Has anyone else noticed that Indiana is thumping Western 17-7 with 231 yards of offense with 4 minutes left in the 2nd Quarter? Here's to hoping that Michigan's Offense really is back and not just a byproduct of a bad opponent.

Florida not looking so hot against the Troy Trojans from Troy. Up 7-3 in the second quarter, but they've turned the ball over twice, and Troy has the ball on the Florida 25 right now.
