MSU up by a TD early.
Mount St. Mary's hired a private equity CEO to be their president. You'll never guess what happened next.
MSU up by a TD early.
was downright "felonious".
Beat the Chips!!!
Woo football on MyTv20!!!
by Tim Tebow of the MidWest (TTMW) Dan LeFeveour.
rushing TD. 21-0 Central.
Mallet is looking really good on Arkansas' first drive. In that offense, he's going to be able to carry that team for the next few years.
I am glad ND doesn't have Arkansas on the schedule. Audibled, rushed for a first down himself, just missing that end of drive TD
I'm not able to glean from the sportscasters, does he have a strong arm?
Damn I took too long to look up the viewing guide.
fixed. R-Kansas is looking good. I was just as impressed by their D holding Auburn to the 3 and out.
And the inevitable "we're talking good about you so you screw up the PAT" play.
Iowa State just did the same thing against Kansas. ISU is up 6-0 5 minutes into the game. ISU did force Kansas to punt to start. Kansas blitzed and the wheel route opened up with on one covering.
No versus is having technical difficulties. No picture.
Didn't mean to mess with your mojo. I just figured with the night game and all you might be changing up your routine.
Nah, I just slept in longer than usual as work was rained out today. I'm feeling pretty lazy today.
...if Minnesota and Purdue are bad at defense and thus make each others' offenses look good, but they both look pretty capable on offense. This isn't groundbreaking analysis, but the Michigan-Purdue game should be a shootout.
I'm intrigued by this game for some reason. IME, they are pretty similar teams, but Minnesota should be able to get the win here.
Definitely going back and forth between this game and watching Mallet and his Razorbacks.
I'd like to see an Arkansas game where they didn't talk about Mallet playing for Michigan for 5 minutes
Seriously, it's to the point of ridiculous. It's not that it's mentioned once, but like every other play. Ad nauseum.
This Illinois defense looks horrible. MSU is running right over them, and it's not like they are doing anything special out there. The Illini front line cannot get any push, and every tackle is being made by the secondary. I'm sure MSU will win this game and they'll be "back", but Illinois looks to be the worst team in the Big 10 right now.
I expected their defense to struggle, but I'm surprised that their offense is nonexistent. I have to agree that right now they look like the worst team in the conference. That's just unacceptable with a QB like Juice. Zook's days are numbered.
Sparty bringing the wood. 14-0.
Is either better than I thought or Illinois is truly horrible. But State sure looks good (early) on the road.
Illinois is definitely as bad as they look this year (and State's offense does have some decent playmakers). Meanwhile, looking at the rest of MSU's schedule (including today), what do people think, 7-5? I'd think the two losses would be to Iowa and PSU with likely wins against Illinois, NW, WMU (or maybe not), and Purdue and a close one against Minnesota. There's also room in there for an upset win and the usual play down to the opponents' level loss.
Illinois' defense is letting MSU run all over them, but apparently there's always room for S-P-A-R-T-Y-N-O
The SEC officials at Mississippi State all signal third down, the chains all say third down, Houston plays as if it's third down. It was fourth down. Turnover on downs. Sigh...
Of the infamous Colorado v. Missouri 5th down game.
Man, that Minnesota crowd sounds quiet. How in the world is anyone complaining about them?
For State. That turnover would have been just what the Illini needed.
Which game should I be watching right now and where can I get it streaming from the internet?
ESPN 360. I'd go with Purdue/Minny or Auburn/Arky.
I have been trying to watch some of that Purdue/Minny game. But man, it's a snoozer. What a boring game.
Pam Ward makes me not want to look up at the game, so doing statistics is a lot easier. Hooray grad school.
Houston @ Mississippi State is also a pretty good game. Houston's trying to tie it up at 7 with 2:44 left in the 1st quarter.
Keenum threw a GREAT fade to the corner with a untouched blitzer in his face. PAT good. Tied 7-7.
Also, this game is on ESPN360, too.
BOOM! That was a huge hit in the auburn-arkansas game. LB blew up that swing pass.
your going to cost me 150 bucks! get your shit together!!
You'd think State would've worked on NOT taking stupid personal foul penalties after last week, wow
Here's your Rotel-Velveeta combination of the game: Michigan State and 130 yard drives
And they do it on back-to-back plays.
And the announcers keep talking about how Dantonio is a disciplinarian, yet MSU was 4th in the Big 10 last year in penalties and is currently 2nd this year. So while he might seem tough and gruff, his team continues to play with more recklessness than you would think.
Dantonio just told me that you're short and that by mentioning the Big 10 you're focusing on other teams besides his
I was just going to mention this. Don't forget, the announcer said he was a "well-documented" disciplinarian. It's also funny with Winston running around out there.
Sparty is not going to lose this game, unfortunately. They'll be 3-3, and we'll have to hear about how they are on their way back. Jebus, it's going to be an annoying week...
If we take care of business, this week won't be annoying at all.
That's true. But winning at night in Iowa vs. early afternoon in Illinois makes that tougher. But even if UM wins, you'll still hear about how MSU is coming back, watch out, etc.
They ARE on their way back. Blah blah blah responsibility, blah blah players from Michigan blah blah blah fundamentals blah blah blah blah they lost BUT it was a moral victory blah blah Pride comes before the fall. There, Drew Sharp, I just wrote your column for you for the next few months.
Good stuff CalJr. One point for you sir.
Illinois is absolutely terrible. They look like 2008 Michigan, except I think they're even worse. They have so much veteran offensive talent, I don't get it.
Hmm, wonder what Benn is thinking right now?
What happened to that guy? He looked so damn good for a couple of years there.....and now he is ridin' the pine.
I can't remember him having any stretches of "so damn good." I can remember flashes from one or two games, but never sustained success. He's always been of the type that "one day, this guy is going to be awesome." He's been hyped for the athletic freak that he is, which is fair. His athleticism is what allowed him to play so well against Michigan defenses that could never defend a mobile quarterback. But he has never developed as a football player, at least not in my e-pinion.
Part of that goes back to the Florida days of Zook. He was always a great recruiter, but he never developed his talent. Or so at least that's how I always understood it.
You know, I thought about this earlier. I think Michigan last year would beat Illinois of this year.. by 2 point digits. Yeah I said it.
Wow, Arkansas is taking it to Auburn big time. Nice TD pass by Mallet
That pass was absolutley perfect. He has looked really impressive all day.
Winston fumbles after trying to dive into the end zone from the 5-yard line. Great job, Glenn!
Can't blame him, he just thought he was back in the prison shower.
Illinois has a player named Dufrene, maybe he helped Winston escape
Really, Big 10? First and goal from the Illinois 2 for IU?
Fumble on the goalline? Could have been a sparty NOOOO! moment, but Illinois is completely inept. Ron Zook is easily the worst coach in the big 10.
Edit: And the shortest punt I've seen in a while right after I hit save. Wow they're bad.
Did Cousins start and then get yanked early or has Nichol played the whole game? I tuned it late 1st quarter and have seen only Nichol getting snaps.
Nichol started. He's thrown a couple inaccurate passes but has general done fine and hasn't had to anyway since the run is destroying Illinois
GameTracker says Nichol has been MSU's only QB today.
but this is shocking. How many games will they win? I'm going to say 4. Also, how terrible does Auburn look today?
Auburn looks as bad as Illinois. But Arkansas is a pretty good football team.
Arkansas is a good team, perhaps the best team they've played all year and they're on the road. It will be interesting to see how Auburn responds.
Great play by the CB on that pass. If Auburn can figure out how to move the ball a little, this game might be worth watching.
SEC so deep. Southern speed. Tebow giant schlong. Chizik greatest coach ever.
These and other comments brought to you by ESPN.
Wins at best for Illinois. Wow. This team is a total train wreck.
I'd have to say 3 wins tops for this Illini team, they are looking rough.
Mallet INT definitely helps Auburn out...
7-0 OkSt with 2:10 to go in the first
The game on ABC is Eastern Michigan at Central Michigan?!
Be glad it's at least that. I've got Jack Hanna's Animal Adventures followed by NASCAR Angels.
Wow, Tennessee is beating Georgia. That's a surprise.
UGa's KO returner now has 2 100 yard KO returns this season. That's ridiculous.
Houston just had a great interception. Knocks the WR as he catches it, ball bounces high in the air. Guy who laid the hit catches it and gets a couple yards.
You watching that game on ESPN360? I can't find it on my cable guide.
I've got DishNetwork, comes with ESPNU (UH/MSU game), ESPNClassic, Versus, CBSCollegeSports, etc.
MSU just had their running back carry 2 Cougars over 20 yards as they just tried to strip instead of tackle. UH has been doing that all day and it has really cost them. The first guy that could have tackled the RB just stopped, stood up straight and tried to hack the ball as the RB flew past him.
UPDATE: UH marches down the field in a minute-twenty. MSU loses the outside guy in cover two. Wide open at the goal line on the sideline.
Ouch, Winston looks like he took a shot to the knee on that tackle, otherwise I doubt he would've gone down, they don't seem to be able to tackle at all
Cut to AJ Sturges cheering on the Wild Fan Cam
Down Goes Winston!!!
We're not celebrating an injury here are we?
I'm not happy to see him injured, but I also don't feel bad. I decidedly neutral.
I love how the BTN announcers are so vanilla in describing how Winston "overcame some off-the-field issues."
I don't normally root for injuries, but in this case, I hope it really hurts. Literally.
Sparty up 17-0 at the half, Winston's out, knee injury.
I hope illinois plays this bad when we play them. They actually might have a worst D than ours.
How is Minnesota having this much trouble with Purdue? They're terrible this year
I'm one of the few that's still really high on Purdue this year. I think the bigger issue is how bad is Minnesota. Their offensive strategy is pass to Decker. Purdue has done a good job of limiting his touches.
Purdue isn't that bad of a team. I don't think they're a top half of the conference team, but I firmly believe that Minnesota, Illinois, and Northwestern are all much worse than they are.
C'mon guys. Let's not be douchebags and celebrate the injuries of our rivals. As big as dickhead, A-holes as they may be.
Bad form fellas.
But in this case it has less to do with being a rival and more to do with it being Winston.
You know the Winston story, right?
And if anyone deserved to get that sort of a break it was Winston. He's a thug.
Still celebrating that sort of thing just seems like something they would do in East Lansing.
Just because you make a comment about an injury doesn't mean you're celebrating it.
Sometimes you get what you deserve - it's all about Karma in this case.
Wish the Big 10 Network sideline reporter at the halftime interview with Dantonio would have asked him:
"So, how do you think Michigan would have done offensively against Illinois today?"
Yeah. We could have watched him explode on the spot.
Haha, that ref discussion in the Georgia-Tenn. game was hilarious. I don't think they agreed on anything there and just had to call a BS false start.
Looks unstoppable today. They are just kicking Auburn's ass.
Mallet seems pretty comfortable in that offense, and he's not half bad when he's not trying to throw with his back inches off the ground. Nice to see him succeed elsewhere
Wow, Auburn looked like MSU on that play. All you have to do is push the guy OOB and instead you grab his helmet right off his head
Arkansas leads Auburn 27-3? OMG.
looks like they left the intensity back in Alabama.
Thats an 11am start in Fayetteville, and Auburn looks like a team who hasn't played a day game all year.
If Auburn makes a game of it in the 2nd half.
3-3 will turn into 6-6 so it's only appropriate.
Kentucky just intercepted a pass. They're down 17-14, but they have the ball on their side of the 50. Good game it looks like. (also espn360)
Welcome to unemployment.
But he does such a good job of recruiting!!!
who, after a night of drinking and blackouts, is awakened the next morning by someone opening the bar door thereby letting in natural sunlight. "Ahhh!! Natural light...Close the door!" They are only built to operate under artificial light.
Rich Brooks thinks the spot of that ball isn't bullshit.
Here's MSU's remaining schedule.
After today they are 3-3.
How many wins? 7?
Western Mi. (H)
Penn State (H)
Mississippi State blocks the game tying FG attempt by Houston. Someone at the line got up and knocked it back. 1 minute left in the half, MSU should get the ball on the near their 20.
Kentucky couldn't capitalize on the pick. Punts.
Houston's lack of tackling is giving MSU a chance for a super long field goal. They moved the ball 50 yards in 40 seconds. 52 yarder is well short and wide right. 17-14 MSU at the half.
1:21 left in Kentucky/SoCar half. Kentucky gets a big sack on 3rd and 10. SoCar punting from the ~50 with 37 seconds left. Punt rolls out of bounds at the 3. Looks like another 17-14 going into the half.
Eddie McGee looks absolutely awful. Like Threetsheridammit awful.
Has one of the ugliest throwing motions I have ever seen.
If the Boilers get it together and start a win streak, they could be a decent to good team. I can't imagine the torture they've put their fans through this year, what with all the games decided by a touchdown or less. They could take that game, making State 6-6. But I can see 7-5.
Purdue may finish the year with more fumbles lost than we did last year. Amazing.
is his record against Coach Rodriguez. Otherwise, he hasn't accomplished anything noteworthy.
Are MSU fans as sold on him as the media are? All you read about is how he's changing the culture of that program and anytime they lose it's because he's got to overcome that. Drew Sharp even went so far as to say that the "Same Old Spartans" reputation was dead, despite evidence to the contrary. But are fans actually buying that?
My brother lives in EL and says that the Spartan faithful are fully onboard the Dantonio bandwagon.
They think they have the real deal.
Ok, that's what I thought. He's an obvious improvement over the John L. Smiths of the world, but so far he hasn't looked like the guy to turn them around. I'm curious to see where they are in a few more years, though.
If he keeps beating Michigan (frequently) and goes somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-5 every year and they will keep him for life.
on him as the media. But what's important to remember, is that football will always play second fiddle to basketball in East Lansing. I grew up in the area and though the football season was huge, the lack of success on the gridiron always inspired a "on to basketball season" attitude. When it comes to football, fans almost expect the team to be fair to middling and if they can upset Michigan, well then sweet. They've seen flashes with Dantonio but that's all. They were annihilated by OSU in East Lansing last year and never seem to get over the hump against equal to better competition. We encounter a lot of idiotic Spartan fans in our day to day lives but the majority is still very cognizant of the football team's inconsistent play.
Without UM's ND win wouldn't UM fans be saying the same thing?
Michigan isn't trying to change a stupid mistake-making, game-choking culture that's been around forever. Articles don't come pouring in every single year that say, yes, Michigan was bad last year but they're finally turning the corner this year. Or, this is the coach that will keep them from choking away games and taking stupid penalties. So no, I don't think so.
MSU wasn't bad last year, and this year have really only been upset once by Central. They haven't really seemed to be the meltdown MSU of old.
Have they made mistakes? of course but a lot of it is from inexperience. Oh great now I feel dirty.
is the fan base as sold on him as the media seems to be. If Michigan had lost the ND game, there would be no love for the football program right now coming from the media. They received some national love as a result of their win but would certainly not have gained any with a loss.
Anyone else watching Morehouse v. Tuskegee? Woo, go Tigers. One of them anyway.
The CMU-EMU game is just riveting. 42-0. 10:01 left in the third.
How good are the Hokies? They are absolutely crushing Boston College 34-0.
at the end of the season regarding which 1-loss team deserves to be in the title game if it comes down to that. If they can keep up this momentum through the ACC slate, they'll run the table.
State's defense looks great today.
GREAT punt by Illinois, too bad they're gonna let MSU score on a 99+ yard drive
Thank you for proving me wrong, Illinois. NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPARTAN INTERCEPTION!
The Gopher explosion to start that half is killing me.
I got MSU -4, PU +3, PU/Minny O 51.5....so I guess it kinda helped somewhat.
I played three early SEC games too.....UK +10 (the good), UGA +1 (the bad) and Auburn +2 (the ugly).
We are thinking of putting that Purdue play in the Ugly Category now.
You've got to feel for Danny Hope. Purdue is absolutely snakebitten.
As for MSU-Illinois, could a Sparty No! collapse be in the offing? (Ah, probably not.)
You forgot "Wizardhatted"
But still, that would be sweet.
You never know. I told a friend of mine last week when we were down 14 with about 5 minutes to go that it would take a 2004-like miracle to even tie it up, yet it happened. Like Brad Lidge, no lead is safe with the Spartans
But asking the Zooker to come through is pretty tough.
Hey look, the commentators in the Arky game mentioned Michigan again. And again. And again.
Tennessee with another big pick. In the red zone now. Mississippi State went for it on fourth down near the red zone and had a incompletion that probably should have been reviewed. Houston back with the ball.
Tennessee settles for 3. 24-12 over UGa.
Fans have to be miserable. Back to back losses to LSU and Tenn is like death to those guys.
And Houston just snapped consecutively on :25 seconds on the play clock. They're in the red zone, MSU time out.
UH just dropped a touchdown wide open in the end zone. Ball was right at his shoulder pad level, no one around him. Looks forward to where he's either going to celebrate or check for defenders right as the ball hits his hands. Falls to the ground. That makes it 4th down. FG good. Tied at 17.
on 4th down. And just got a huge play from scrimmage on the reverse. Knocking on the door.....
if they score here, we suddenly have an interesting 4th quarter.
Auburn is making this a game. Second and goal from the 4th, looking to make this a 34-23 (or 34-24) game.
Edit: 34-23. Auburn is storming back.
Hmm, to watch football or to watch Lichtenstein versus Azerbaijan in the beautiful game? The real question.
49-8 CMU. The Alex Gillet era has begun!
56-8. 7:36 left to play
SoCar just took a 21-17 lead over Kentucky. Kentucky gets a solid return then a 20+ yard run.
UH and MSU tied at 17 still. UH had an interception on the offensive 4 to kill another scoring chance.
This Auburn game has been pretty awesome so far. It should be tied, if not for that silly Tate fumble early in the second half. And it pains me to say, Mallet looks good. He makes some ridiculous throws.
Arkansas just scored to make it 41-23.
These SEC games are crazy - I thought they played defense in that conference?
takes a 21-15 lead over A&M. T. Boone Pickens cannot be pleased.
I assume you mean Kyle Field.
not the stadium. Donating all that money doesn't normally equal patience.
I believe Pickens is a benefactor of Oklahoma State...so uh, why would he be displeased? Or did I miss something?
crap is all. Dez Bryant is HUGE for their offense. Moreso than I thought. Top 10 preseason team struggling with A&M. Now A&M is driving.
A win is a win is a win is a win, yo.
Lots of time left.
I don't really mind Oklahoma State, but I do mind Pickens. Anything that makes him sad is reason for a smile.
Ah, the beautiful mind of Ron Zook, in which a 51-yard field goal attempt with a crappy kicker makes more sense than going for it on 4th and 5 when down 17.
Turnover on downs for Kentucky. Fumble by SoCar at the sideline. It's under review, but Kentucky is going to get the ball back.
EDIT: And the Wildcats do get it.
Mississippi State throws a deep ball to the endzone, UH safety jumps the route for a pick.
How much time is left in that UH - Worst team in the SEC game?
MSU is getting beaten up in this game. Winston left the game, Jimmerson left the game, and now Nichol looks banged up.
Edit: I see Jimmerson has returned to the game (on MSU's hands team for the onside kick).
24-14. 1:24 left.
What happened to Juice William's "game"?
...he appeared to be the only one in an Illinois uniform who even showed up. Dear Ron Zook: Juice Williams is not the reason your team sucks.
they're commenting about how Central has so many out-of-state players. They said it was because the program is on the map and they're able to pull kids from places such as Florida, Maryland, and Ohio.
But...I thought you could only win if kids were from in-state? How can and out-of-state kid like LeFevour possibly understand the in-state rivalries with WMU and EMU....
Oh wait, 56-8 win over EMU. Oh wait, 3 out of the last 4 over WMU...
Um.. I just really really hate Tennessee.. a lot.
Also didn't help I lost money on that game, so I'm even more bummed out than usual with a Tennessee win here.
Hmm, SCarolina plays Jump Around during the 4th quarter. My, how original.
