Noon Games Open Thread

Submitted by alum96 on

Incredibly full day of good games today - some in each time slot rather than being all stuffed at 8 PM to boot.  Going to be a good one.

OSU v Maryland and A&M v Miss State (no defense to be played) should be the 2 most interesting in the noon time slot

  • Ball State at Army, CBS Sports Net, noon
  • Florida at Tennessee, SEC, noon
  • Iowa State at Oklahoma State, FS1, noon
  • Marshall at Old Dominion, FSN, noon
  • Ohio State at Maryland, ABC, noon
  • Purdue at Illinois, ESPN2, noon
  • SMU at East Carolina, ESPNU, noon
  • Texas A&M at MIssissippi State, ESPN, noon

The SEC Network has the best non-B1G B1G game on at the moment - a 3-0 barnburner at Neyland going into halftime. Florida has 122 yards on 36 plays, so a cool 3.39 yards per play. No, Florida is not winning at the moment, not at all on any level.

No they don't.  They aren't jumping the Pac12, SEC champ or a one loss FSU.  They would need the Big12 champ to lose at least once and maybe twice.

You don't get credit for playing one legit team in non-conference and getting run over and 3 cupackes.

Epic cluster fail by coach Randy Edsell right before half in Maryland game. Pinned at their own 6 yard line with a minute to go, QB passes ball on first down and it's picked off. Run back to the 1 yrd line . Had momentum until that 7 point freebie touchdown before half.

How is it that OSU replaces their whole O-line and QB and have them look like they're 5th year seniors? My wife is a Buckeye.  We are 12-12-1 together.  Thanks to Bill Martin and DB for putting this tire fire together so that my wife overcomes the 10-2-1 start that I think was a key to a healthy marraige.  Just f-ing thanks.

I think both Arizona and Oregon would blow A&M and MissSt out of the water. SEC slappies will once again claim that this game only means how great the entire conference is, but from what I've seen the PAC-12 plays better D and has offenses that are even better.

Is Will Mushamp trying to get fired?  That's the only reason I can thinkof for why Jeff Driskel is still playing.  11-23 for 59 yrds and 3 INTs.

This is the "real" A&M we're seeing today.  That ranking was such a joke all along.  It'll interesting to see of the talking heads have enough guts to drop their ranking far enough.

zone blocking techniques? The OLineman on the inside of the hole, sealing the seam if you will, ideally should get his hips around. When they cant I've noticed that they use somewhat of a rip move to block to keep the DLineman from crossing his face, still sealing the hole. I also noticed this when I was watching some Alabama OL drill videos. They were drilling this technique. Ive never seen one of our OLineman try to do this, they rarely get their hips around and stay square to the LOS, most times letting a man cross their face and make a play. I wonder if Funk has ever coached the zone blocking scheme before, Id have to imagine that Nuss would teach him some things but... Our guys also rarely get a good double team come off where the inside guy climbs to the second level. Watching all these teams execute on O makes me question our position coaches even more....

Anyone else get the feeling that if a UM receiver tried that move that the A&M receiver just did that he'd be yelled at by the coaches?

Florida actually scored a touchdown and it wasn't by accident or anything. I suppose they can hold off on the ceremonial cremation of the offensive playbook for at least the rest of the quarter now. Still, it would be better for humankind if Driskel did not throw.
