Noon Games Open Thread
Didn't see a thread going so I figured I would get one going. There are a whole bunch of thoroughly mediocre games starting, but it's football so you are going to be watching anyway.
Personally, I'm mostly watching PSU and Akron. Akron looked good early, but sputtered at the goal line and derfed a chip shot field goal. PSU is not having much trouble now on offense.
Purdue, Wisky, Nebraska, Illinois, and Rutgers are also playing. All are playing awful teams.
I'm also interested in this Oklahoma game. I don't understand why they are ranked so high.

Hoping to see Toledo beat Mizzou

Purdue Bad. There is bad and then there is Purdue Bad.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:40 PM ^
But what do you call it when you give up a safety on the opening kickoff? W. Illinois was down two points to Wisconsin before even one second ticked off.

Thomas Rawls is shredding Purdue
September 6th, 2014 at 12:30 PM ^
I guess I should mention that the other 5 Big Ten teams are not doing so hot against their terrible opponents. Purdue just failed to tackle on a spectacular level and CMU is now up 14-0.
Nebraska just scored to tie McNeese St 7-7 on a busted coverage play.
Rutgers is losing 7-3 to Howard.
Wisconsin is up 2-0 on WIU. Yay
Illinois of all teams is actually winning 7-0 over WKU

PSU tied at 0-0 with Akron.

Fire Up Chips! 14-0 up on Purdue.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:33 PM ^
TD CMU!
14-0 over Purdue on ESPNEWS. I picked them as my upset special.
Today is the first time I have my phone on and am using social media on a football gameday. Will shut off an hour before kickoff at the latest. Subs. This is crazy.

What's wrong with using your phone on a Gameday? Sure, if you're in the stadium then I'm the first to say dis-fucking-connect. But Twitter on duinrg away game FB saturdays is pretty hilarious.

Because there's nothing more important than Michigan's game. I'm paying 100% attention.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:34 PM ^
So... about a quarter played. Wisconsin still only up on Western Illinois by a safety. And Western Illinois is driving..
September 6th, 2014 at 12:34 PM ^
Zettel looks really good for PSU. Very disruptive in the middle of that D-Line.

He is the kid from Ogemaw Heights correct?

Go rockets!
September 6th, 2014 at 12:35 PM ^
Go go Toledo!
TD to tie it.

Watching Purdue is entertaining, if your into comedic horrors and boring noon games on a beautiful West Michigan Fall Saturday.
Here come the boo birds...
September 6th, 2014 at 12:37 PM ^
I hate it when Michigan plays at noon and usually the noon slate sucks, but today is just awful.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:54 PM ^
Yeah it's terrible. 3 premier games on at the same time tonight killed the afternoon. It would've been nice to get those games back to back to back.

USC Stanford at 3:30 is something at least.
But yeah the OSU game should have been at noon.
OSU-VaTech -> USC-Stan -> Start of MSU-Oregon -> UM-ND
Would have been a good run.

Why is Mizzou at Toldeo...? (An SEC team playing at a MAC school?)
September 6th, 2014 at 12:40 PM ^
Kinda strange but they scheduled a home-home series. Pinkel coached at toledo so maybe that has something to do with it
September 6th, 2014 at 12:42 PM ^
Oklahoma is at Tulsa as well.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:02 PM ^
Game was probably scheduled when they were still a Big 12 team. I'm sure they have since been advised by their SEC brethren not to make that mistake again.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:38 PM ^
Purdue looks worse than a shit sandwich.
I would make a denigrating remark about Penn State, but given the opponent, I think I'll shut up.

Score updates
illini 7 wku 3
psu 7 akron 0
toledo 7 mizzou 7
neb 14 mcneese 7
September 6th, 2014 at 12:40 PM ^
oooof.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:41 PM ^
Yea what is that. Tis' nasty.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:41 PM ^
Aside from Akron's impressive yet empty opening drive they're Oline is getting bum-rushed by Penn St. This will end up being long game for Akron. Toledo looks sharp though. 5, 5th year grad studends on their OLine. Holy shit! Nice cohesivness.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:53 PM ^
Anyone expecting a miracle from Akron is kidding themselves. They are just bad and it would have been worse than the Horror to lose to them. App State 2007 was far better than Akron 2013.
Akron lost to UCF and Bortles 38-7, they lost to the Ohio Bobcats 43-3 and they beat the worst team in college football last year - Miami(OH) by 7. They crushed UMass by 1. We saw UMass in here a few years ago and it was a HS team.
September 6th, 2014 at 1:09 PM ^
Hackenberg looks terrible. This Akron game could turn into a repeat of our game last year. Gardner kept them in it last year and Hackenberg is keeping them in it this year.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:42 PM ^
In 2015, Mizzou has a scheduled date at Arkansas State.

Chips look good. Purdue looks awful, hazel was a terrible hire IMO

He had one good season at Kent State when they were plus 800 in turnovers. How were we to know that was unsustainable?
September 6th, 2014 at 12:56 PM ^
Hence why I keep saying mediocre guys right out of the MAC is going to yield bad results in the big ten. Shocking that Illinois and Purdue are still shit.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:56 PM ^
you cant seriously blame Hazel. The guy did an excellent job at kent st. and its purdue forgodsake.
September 6th, 2014 at 1:10 PM ^
He had one good year at Kent State. That's not enough to be able to tell if someone is a good coach.
September 6th, 2014 at 1:26 PM ^
Look at his turnover margin at Kent St during his one good season. It was a fluke year in the MAC. If he is a good coach he has not shown anything to prove it yet in his career.

Tanner McEvoy is not good, Wisconsin better hope that Stave losses his, "yips" otherwise it could be a long season in Madison.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:52 PM ^
Hackenberg's decisionmaking needs to improve.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:53 PM ^
Wisconsin's passing game is horrible.
September 6th, 2014 at 12:54 PM ^
This noon slate reminds me of the typical week 1 noon slot games. I settled in on the McNeese St @ NEB game as it seems like it might be competitive at 14-7 NEB.
PS - I hate it when all the good games are in the same-ish time slot. Really want to watch Sparty out west and the Hokies in the horseshoe too. I guess its a good thing I don't like Nascar lol...

TD purdue 14-7 CMU leads
September 6th, 2014 at 12:56 PM ^
I'm a bit worried about that game now.
September 6th, 2014 at 1:01 PM ^
They're playing Akron. Hackenberg is legit but let's see how he performs in a hostile road environment against a very good secondary.
Neutralize Hackenberg and Penn State is done.
