TT is not the last unbeaten team in the Big12.
Noon games open thread
Yup. The mighty Baylor Bears are undefeated as well.
I'm not all for the "OMG MSU GAVE UP RUSHING YARDS THE SEASONS OVER" overreactions here early, but yeah, Vegas must've been drunk giving MSU a +28 point spread. I get that their offense is semi-functioning now, but it was Iowa and Indiana.
They're playing Purdue, who is considerably worse than either of those teams.
And Sparty is sleepwalking.
"Could be interesting" LOL could SUCK
Is Missouri a good team? Up 7 quickly on Florida. That Mauk kid can play.
Florida safety gets ejected for targeting that was a pretty weak targeting. I understand the flag but I don't think he should have been ejected
Sucks for that kid. I thought it was pretty soft as well.
The one Georgia just got was even worse!! So ridiculous
I forgot about Baylor in the Big XII. Weird that Tech and Baylor are the last unbeatens there.
As for the Georgia game, UGa is missing several of their best playmakers which means Vandy may be able to make a game of it.
Mizzou already up on Florida 7-0
TT hasn't played anyone with a winning record and Kingbury looked like a great hire from the get go. Wouldn't be surprised to see USC go after him. I think he has the personality to be a great fit there.
TT is tough to read, although it looks like they are handling WV pretty well so far. I agree that Kingsbury was a good hire. I don't know much about him so I wonder if he would bolt for SC or if he is more in the Fitzgerald mold where he wants to stay at Tech and build something. It would be nice to see Texas knocked down a little bit after basically holding that conference hostage during realignment.
Don't think he caught that in bounds
I get that Mizzou wanted to get away from the block M confusion, but wow they look weird. The field isn't helping, either. Botched punt by Mizzou, Gator ball.
Gus JOhnson is awesome. Just called the punt return in the OSU-TCU in classic Gus style.
Just think...if it were not for a fumbled return attempt, Florida likely still would not have anything on the board right now.
Florida-Mizzou looks like an old time SEC game. Which is to say that it might end 13-10 unless someone breaks something on special teams. I don't hate the Rutgers-Maryland moves as much as most here, but it really is a shame we didn't grab Louisville and Mizzou instead. I actually don't know their academic reputations, but their major sports teams are on an upswing. Never thought Mizzou would be holding their own in the SEC already
State just a returned an incomplete pass. At least as far as the rules go. Wasn't even looked at. His arm continued through in a forward motion.
That was a clear fumble...just cause his arm went forward doesn't mean anything. His hand didn't have the BALL when his arm went forward...you're missing the key point.
I keep hearing the UF-Mizzou announcers say Trey Burton and it sounds like Trey Burke.
I miss you TB :(
Hold me, Trey Burke?
Cause that would be cool.
State only leading because the D scored a TD. I thought their Offense looked good last week. I give up.
How do you only have 9yrds passing against Purdue? That MSU offense is no where near average.
I wish we were that productive (not sure if I'm serious).
Florida just got a first down on a glaringly bad spot. He was pretty close to the first down, but the ref gave him an extra half yard or so just make sure.
Announcers just said Mizzou is +9 in TO margin. Consider me jealous.
If UM is +9, they are a top 10 team.
Florida is clearly the MSU of the SEC. The defense is pretty nasty, but that offense is horrible. Good pass goes right through the hands of a receiver and is picked off, giving Mizzou good field position.
Minn tied with NWST. NWST looking like they may have been overreated. They looked good against OSU, but terrible against Wiscy. Their best win so far is Syracuse, a team that probably finishe in the bottom half of the ACC. Cal is awful, they almost lost to a 3-4 DII team. WMU is winless and NWST only beat Maine by 14 in a game where Maine outgained them.
It's easy to distinguish the OSU and USC teams by adding "c," "e," or "w" after the school's acronym.
Or for South Carolina, you can use USCOG.
Very happy at the absence of spartylol comments on here today. We are in no position to disparage.
The announcers are much more annoying than Sparty. So excited over nothing.
Great game on ESPN. Looks like Clowney finally decided to he wants to do something this season.
None of the so-called "good" B1G teams are looking good early. MSU's O is back to it's early season self and Northwestern tied up with Minnesota. Hope this theme doesn't carry-over to the UM game.
and Minny has their backup QB in.
Since when is MSU considered good?
Well, they do have one of if not the best D's in the country. They have 1 loss on the season and lead the Legends division (along with Nebraska). I think that qualifies them as "good".
Since their offense started to show a pulse the last two weeks and they continued to have their usual soul-crushing defense
Horrible targeting call in Georgia game!! That's 3 sec players ejected so far today....
Diculous. Cannot believe that went through even after replay!!!
Looks like a packed house in East Lansing.
Never thought I'd say this but I'd really like to have that Mizzou D-Line. They look bloodthirsty out there.
Dennard with another PI. The love he gets as a corner amazes me.
Abysmal clock management by Purdue at the end of the half... 1 minute left at the 40, run (gain of 3, let 20 seconds run off), pass (loss of 4, let another 20 seconds run off and then take a timeout), pass (sack, and then take another timeout with 10 seconds left), go for it on 4th. What the fuck?
Everything in this game just makes me cringe. The announcers, clock management, the score. Sadly I suffer from some weird B1G addiction where I choose to watch these games over games like Florida-Mizzou...
Hazell is the dumbest coach in the world. This last series has been mind boggling.
If you're Purdue, why not run one more play? Nine seconds gives you time.
I loaded up the car with the avatar and nine year old and headed up north from Cleveland about three hours ago. I got as far as Sandusky and said to myself "why the Hell am I doing this?" The tickets are a sunk cost (I dont get the money back I spent if I go or dont go) and my choices are sitting in my house (pissed off at Borges) watching the game in front of the fire with a nice Bells Two Hearted or sit in the rain for 3.5 hours (pissed at Borges) freezing my ass off.
I chose home. Section 3, Row 27 will have three empty seats today. Sorry.
but now you're one less voice that can talk crap about this generation's student section.
Even still, enjoy the two-hearted; I would love to say that was my plan B.
Literal example of a fair-weather fan.
That's funny. And if I hadnt driven 3 hours every home game both ways for the past 25 years I might take offense but hey....if the shoe fits......
I know MSU has been playing better offensively in recent weeks, but this is a rockfight if I've ever seen one in EL. Just horrendous offenses going at it.
What the hell was that, Purdue? Terrible clock managemnet.
Surprised MSU didn't have a guy in the endzone to return what was clearly going to be a tough kick.
I might be the only one watching this game but I like what I'm seeng out of Purdue.
Edit: Apparently not. I don't mind what he was doing there at the end. Yeah, obviously it seems he should have ran a play and saved the timeout but I think he was playing a bit conservative and scared to give the damn ball to Sparty.
NW and Purdue both miss field goals to end the half. MSU defense up 7 on both offenses and Minny-NW tied in a game that will eliminate one team completely from division relevance.
Silverberry Mouhon is the god damned name of the decade.
1 YPC or 1.9 YPA? I guess the right answer is both
Few top 25 updates.
Mizzou up 13-3 on Florida. Considering they are playing without their senior QB that's impressive.
Georgia getting into a possible shootout with Vandy. Dawgs just scored to go up 17-14.
Tennessee up 17-7 on USC. South Carolina always seems to pull these out of their ass, though.
TT only up 13-10 on WV now and it's Mountaineer ball.
Pokes up 17-0 on TCU. I'm surprised at how poorly TCU has been this year.
One not-top-25 update: The B1G looks like shit.
...almost came to Michigan.
The kid can sling the rock.
He's made some nice throws but he's not setting the world on fire IMO...yet...
Butch Jones has Tenn playing a lot better this year than I expected other than the Oregon disaster. Of course some of that may be the fact that the SEC looks to be a lot weaker than it usually is.
How "over" last week are you guys?
I don't know if it was the 4 OTs or the 3 legit chances to win and go home...but I'm still sick like the PSU game happened an hour ago.
The more I think about it, the more it still burns. Knowing that game is going to be replayed a MILLION times before I die sickens me.
I seriously haven't let a loss hang with me this long since Kordell Stewart.
There is only ONE way I think I'll recover...3 things have to happen. None of them are likely.
- We have to Beat Ohio
- We have to go to the Rose Bowl
- At least 3 of (Alabama, Oregon, FSU/Clemson, Baylor) have to win out so I can honestly believe that even if we were undefeated...we weren't going to a National Championship game.
What pisses me off the most about this team right now is that we've waited MONTHS to watch this team. All most of us want is to see them play to the best of their potential. That's what I enjoyed about watching basketball last year (minus a few games late in the year)...for the most part, win or lose, those guys maxed out. This football team has already SHOWN they're better than they're playing now. I hate wasted potential.
Obviously we would have to wait until the season played out, but if we went 13-0 with the squeakers we had against UConn, Akron, and PSU...I find it hard to believe we'd have a shot at the NC game.
A few years ago I thought a team like Michigan would never get left out in the cold with an undefeated season but with how bad the B1G is now, it's a definite possibility if you don't have the hype machine OSU has. And even they might go 13-0 and head to Pasadena.
I'm not close to over it. Hell, one of the big reasons I'm sitting at home right now and not in my seats at the stadium is crappy feeling I've had all week about the game, specially our OC. No way to know for sure but I'll bet you if we had won then I'd be there now and not here in front of my TV enjoying my second Bell's Two Hearted.
but then I decided to apply the 24 hours rule. I was furious for a day and then I let go.
This is entertainment. None of us should let it get to us that much where it ruins watching Michigan play.
Weird stats for Georgia. Murray is only 5-9 for 29 yards and they have only 7 first downs. However, a defensive TD has them in the lead.
They always give runners an extra shove once they're a few yards out of bounds. Not usually enough to cause a late hit, but certainly a douchey play and they do it all the time. Anyone else ever noticed that?
I don't know....Florida's 53 yards of offense thus far in the first half might not look quite so bad if Mizzou didn't happen to be outgaining them by almost a 4-to-1 margin.
Having said that, INT and Florida gets a shot at bringing this to within an FG before halftime. Indeed, in two passes Tyler Murphy increased his passing yards by about 35%.
Having said THAT, sack and a TFL, then a pass that results in the 3rd and 11. If the next play doesn't work, well, nice try, Gators.
I think it's safe to say that the next play didn't work out.
I don't understand Purdue's game management at all. You've got to go for this first down.
12:18 left in the 3rd and still no offensive points.
Wow. Mizzou QB gets a shove to the facemask after the ball is gone with no call. You never see that anymore.
I hate northwestern's crappy grass field. I hate Beth Mowins disinterested play by play. I hate the way the mics are set up on Big 10 fields. Ugh
You have to think that if MSU tacks on a FG, at 10-0 this game is over. Heck at 7-0 this game already might be over!
For -4 yards passing on MSUs last drive. Down to 1.2 YPA
Whatever the total on the Michigan-Michigan St. game is... Definitely take the under. Wowza
No pun intended but don't bet on it. The MSU team we'll see will show formations and play calls they've been saving all season JUST for one game.
MSU would happily lost two or three previous games just to win one. As long as the one is against us.
I don't think it is going to be much more than that this year.
Minny got a pretty bad offensive PI call that negated a 4th down TD. Still 7-7.
Wow absolutely worst PI call I've ever seen.
Ball don't lie!! Minny pick 6.
These Big 10 refs suck so much ass. So much.
but he has not turned the ball over 5 times either
I am absolutely not surprised Cook is struggling at QB. Even when he does put up good numbers, it always seems the result of razor's edge throws like the one he just completed.
Purdue just had a pick six and they let the Sparty receiver catch it.
Of the big play so far today I believe we still have a legit shot at winning out
Ball dont lie.
Cook missed an absolutely wide open receiver downfield for a TD. Sparty punter puts it inside the ten. Both of these games are just sad.
...is the best offensive weapon for Sparty.
QB:Sparty::OL save Lewan:Michigan
Hmm, could NW be just a tad overrated?
wow the big 10 just sucks.
Purdue flips field position, celebrates like it's a TD. Sounds about right.
...just set up their punter with good field position.
Oh man the Big 12 is so bad.
I'll throw this in that USC (NTUSC) is also playing pretty poorly. I know Tenn is on the rise, but I'm not seeing why the Gamecocks are #11 right now.
Well that's not true. You know why they are #11. ESS EEE SEE. Although after watching a lot of other teams today I think picking teams outside of the top 7 or so is like playing darts right now. Everyone is bad.
I think it has more to do with that great ESE EE SEE speed.
...TWIS will be delicious.
You're making the very dangerous assumption that Purdue understands what those end zones are for.
You just gave them the win. Thanks alot...
Am I the only one that thinks Darqueze Dennard holds the WR or committs PI on nearly every play?
Definitely. His hand was inside the WRs pants on that fly route
I always hear MSu fans complaining about the PI against them ( many of which actually were BS), but the number against Dennard that aren't called baffle me.
He's super overrated. He's a walking penalty and has no discipline what so ever .
Which naturally means my Browns will take him in the 3rd.
Considering the number of penalties that have been called on him, I don't think you are the only one.
About the only way the annnouncer can put a positive spin on this MSU Purdue game.
Purdue pins State and then gets a facemask that gets them back out to normal field position. Good job, boys.
Also, Minny is suddenly up on NW and is trying to effectively end their season.
Pat Fitzgerald could potentially go from candidate for the UCS job to 4-3 with and with 3 conference road games left.
B1G: Everybody sucks. Except OSU.
They kind of do too.
LOLtackling by Purdue. It's pretty glaring to watch Mizzou-Florida then switch to whatever this is.
Florida is pretty much the same as MSU. Terrible offense. Great defense.
Yea, I made that point earlier too. The only difference is that's a lot less forgiveable against Florida's schedule.
The real Cook has returned. Rough day for the phenom.
Get well soon coach.
Northwestern looking like a juggernaut.
TT losing to WV. The Big12 looks a lot like the Big10 this year. No great teams and a lot of inconsistent ones.
They look worse IMO. If the best team is.. Baylor... They've got a problem. When our top 5 teams are playing well, they can be good on all phases. I don't think there are any teams in the Big 12 like that. Maybe Oklahoma.
Florida returnes the opening half kickoff for a TD. We are now at the dreaded 13-10 SEC score. Purdue and MSU wondering how they put so many points on the board.
How are you watching the FLA MIZZ game without having your eyes bleed from the incompetence?
Considering the MSU-PU game is on, you must have forgotten the /s tag. Mizzou has looked a lot better on defense than I thought they would and they have driven the ball on Florida.
Killer offenses for Purdue and MSU today. Real fun game to watch.
Our bye coming before Sparty, I know we have played inconsistent this year and state's reason for existence is beating us, I say the bye week is perfect and we will beat Sparty, their offense just isn't good.
Neither is ours. First one to 3 points will probably win.
Our running game isn't good, but our passing game can be lethal when Devin is on his game. As it is, his YPA for the season is very good.
Will have us ready. No way Borges shits his pants, the bye will get us ready, last years bye week vs Iowa included many different looks, I say Gardner plays well and we look like we did against ND. The kids will be focused and ready.
Except you know that Sparty will play their offensive game against us. We will need to score.
Don't use the transitive theory. Cook cant hit anything today - that happens from time to time. Same kid who threw 70% last week. His OL protects him extremely well - big difference from 2012 when MSU OL was a sieve. He is a sophomore - they will have ups and downs. UM is their super bowl, so they will have emotion and if Cook hits 55% of his throws they will have a competent offense as they have a few good RBs (Langford and their freshman). I dont know if Purdue plays a press coverage either - I have watched about 15 minutes of this monster of a game only, but we certainly don't so WRs will be open. MSU defense will keep them in any game save for Oregon and a few teams like that. There are none of those teams in the Big 10. None.
Purdue has given 40+ points in 4 of 6 games. 30+ in 5 of 6. They almost lost to Indiana St. and were outgained in that game. They are a bad football team and there D is awful.
I'm actually proud of Sparty fans thus far. They haven't booed Cook yet.
Dantonio might start doing weird quarterback shuffling again. Those were the days....
MSU punter is damn good - so many times he pinned Purdue inside the 10 when our punter could not execute a pooch punt once. Special teams makes a difference in close games and we have been severely lacking this year. For all the dumb things Sparty does they have had 2-3 top end punters back to back, and of course now play a level of defense that essentially won games against 2 poop teams in games 1-2 and has the only points today. But I am envious of that punter, who booms it 60 yards when necessary but still has placement skills for the pooches. Effects field position all day, every game.
MSU STRUGHLING WITH PURDONT OMG7WINSMAX
Where are the capitulators? I assume all the folks claiming all week that they'd crush M raking the leaves?
If you put up yards but not points you are going to lose
I feel like the gap between pro and college quarterback play has never been so apparent. It just really seems like a lot of quarterbacks can't pass at all this year.
Purdue drops 8 into coverage and leaves a guy wide open at the sticks. This is sad.
I was just talking with a friend. How many Big Ten programs are better today than they were 10 years ago?
I could only realisitically make an argument for Indiana. That was it. Everyone else was either about the same or worse. How sad is that?
Arguably, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Nebraska, Michigan State and Indiana are better than they were ten years ago.
It's close, but these teams have been a little more consistent.
Hard to say with OSU until they play more elite teams, but it's hard to argue with undefeated.
Man, these BTN announcers are getting psyched out of their mind that someone entered the redzone
Welp. At worst MSU is in chip shot field goal position. Game over.
TD MSU. Say goodnight, Purdue.
And the first offensive points of the game come with 8:55 left in the game
...I'll quote Bo:
"They wouldn't have scored in a month!"
That WR threw a pretty nice ball. QB controversy?!!
Yikes. Despite the 10 points, Florida's done it all with 71 net yards of offense, which is good for a smidge under 3 yards per snap on average.
...and Tyler Murphy gets sacked again at about 2:37 PM EDT, per the schedule. This has been Florida's whole day, folks. If it weren't for Kelvin Taylor, Florida would have negative rushing yards right now.
41-0 GT over Syracuse. NWST early season out of conference wins don't look impressive right now.
And South Carolina is in front. Its really hard to believe the separation between the top and bottom of the SEC year in and year out. Some of that is obviously because of the strenght at the top, but the bottom half of the SEC is consistently lousy.
as MN line of 2* and walk-ons. They're man handling NU's DL!
Yes and we can be sure when NW plays us they will dominate our OL. Frustrating as hell.
Tenn slowly imploding .... Which ...big surprise
Butch Jones is a damn good coach, and a good guy, to boot.
That may be too long unless the fanbase's expectations have completely tanked which may be true.
If we had any form of OL that was "Big 10 average", the only team that would matter in the division would be Nebraska this year. If we had a team of the early 2000s in the current conference it would be a cakewalk. Shame we are this average when the Big 10 is so bad.
Why the hell do offensive linemen choose to not block Clowney? It has happend a few times today. The TN RB gets the ball and Clowney is there almost immediately.
My gawd does the Big Ten look horrible right now. Minny was swamped by a bunch of teams and NW is struggling to keep up with them, and MSU has scored exactly 7 offensive points against a Purdue team that is probably the worst in the conference by a comfortable margin. I know people are still down about last week, but I've seen nothing to make me think that UM can't win out until the Game.
You do understand we are just like those teams right? We are highly flawed just the same. We cannot execute HALF our offense in any shape or form (the running game) unless Superman does it. If Superman ever gets hurt there is essentially no offense. We are no different than these teams - they are all flawed. We can win all those games and lose a good # of them just the same.
There's parity across all of college football. Minnesota's a program on the rise... They could be turning a corner this year.
West Virginia got swamped by a ton of teams and yet is beating the top team in the Big 12
Haven't watched the game but I'm impressed with Mizzou for handling Florida to this point with a young quarterback. The Gator's defense is supposed to be legit.
At the very least Florida has to drop out now but with the SEC you never know.
Me too. I thought no chance without their QB. Impressive stuff, even if UF offense is horrid.
Florida has 63 total yards. Sixty. Three. Indiana put up 400+ on Mizzou! Mizzous defense is not super good.
Northwestern faces an eternal quandry: it can't get a real homefield advantage when its fans don't fill the stadium, but its fans won't fill the stadium until they start winning big, which won't happen without a real homefield advantage...
What happened to Venric Mark?
...UM-IU turnover fest over-under now at 10!
Come on Tennessee knock off your SEC brothers.
Whoo . . . NW is saved on 4th and 14 by a pretty iffy PI call, to say the least.
That's a pretty big balloon
Pat Fitz wants the refs to bail his team out.
Fitzgerald got really ballsy and it paid off. Two 4th down conversions for NW when all they needed was a field goal. Now the pressure is on Minnesota to get a first down.
Are they seriously pointing the field mics at the ground or something? Why is everything muffled?
Should I be encouraged that MSU only scored 14 or that they shut out Purdue? I know Purdue sucks but still, to shut out a team is hard to do.
Sorry meant to say discouraged about a Purdue shutout.
I expect zero transtive theories... UM-NW, UM-Neb, and UM-MSU will all be last minute games that are decided in the last 2-3 minutes. These are all average teams. Any given week based on penalties, mistakes, Devin INTs, special teams play they can win. You put them all in a caged match and play 10 game series and they'd all be 5-5 or 6-4 at worse.
Well, the better teams are evenly average, but I worry that doesn't include us. It's OSU MSU Wisc Neb & probably in that order that are around average for D1. From what we've done, w/ exception of 3 qrtrs of ND game, we're in the tier below that of about even teams
They only scored 7 on offense. On the other side of the ball, Purdue had a couple of drives but missed two FGs and displayed generally horrible game management - on top of having little talent. MSU is certainly good defensively, but this game alone didn't tell us much.
& answer is: yes. U should be encouraged, it was 7 for O & 7 for D -- & scared, shut them out despite 2 MSU-off turnovers
MSU didn't have any turnovers. It was Purdue that had two.
Purdue is awful and is now playing a freshmen QB. For all intensive purposes Neb also shut them out. Purdue scored with under a minute left.
MN better not blow this game. It will be huge for M with another NW loss.
Florida with their longest drive of the game! They have ten points on a muffed Mizzou punt and a kickoff return. They are going to double their offensive yards on this drive alone.
I'm not a fan of onside kicks when you have three timeouts. It's too low-percentage and kills your field position if you fail.
I'm curious on something. How big of a difference is the 3rd timeout when you are trying to kill clock? Is calling one pass really that big of a difference? I think the mistake a lot of OC make is calling the pass on third down. What about a play action roll out on 2nd down? If it isn't there then scramble for what you can get.
Edit: And Minny does just that on 3rd down and ends the game. More teams should be doing this.
Northwestern has managed the clock perfectly. Coaches everwhere, take notes.
Some lower to mid ranked top 25 teams in trouble and struggling late. I hope this give Michigan a chance to move up if we get a convincing win today.
Texas Tech scores to retake the lead and USC shanks a punt out of bounds putting Tenn nearly in field goal range down by 1.
Tennessee gets the ball at the 35 and dutifully loses 15 yards.
Don't look now but TCU and Vandy just scored to get both teams within one score of the favorites. Not over yet.
Preferably the big ten mobile link. Anyone know it? You'd be my hero.
Cumong man! Lets see some more upsets!!
Holy catch in the Tenn game!
If Tennessee wins will they be ranked 10 a la Mizzou last week?
I heard Vandy is meeting Georgia at the mall. I'm supposed to take my best friend to UGA - App state for her birthday???not sure I am going to be able to stomach that potential sitch...
