Noon games open thread

Submitted by Avant's Hands on

Some pretty decent games going on at noon finally. TCU-OSU (NTOSU) should be a good one on FOX. And TT-WV features the last undefeated team in the Big XII. South Car-Tenn and UGa-Vandy could be interesting. Florida-Mizzou is suddenly a big game that starts at 12:30. And if you really hate yourself you can watch Sparty beat up on Purdue or see NW-Minny.

Yikes. Despite the 10 points, Florida's done it all with 71 net yards of offense, which is good for a smidge under 3 yards per snap on average.

...and Tyler Murphy gets sacked again at about 2:37 PM EDT, per the schedule. This has been Florida's whole day, folks. If it weren't for Kelvin Taylor, Florida would have negative rushing yards right now.

And South Carolina is in front.  Its really hard to believe the separation between the top and bottom of the SEC year in and year out.  Some of that is obviously because of the strenght at the top, but the bottom half of the SEC is consistently lousy.

If we had any form of OL that was "Big 10 average", the only team that would matter in the division would be Nebraska this year.  If we had a team of the early 2000s in the current conference it would be a cakewalk.  Shame we are this average when the Big 10 is so bad.

Why the hell do offensive linemen choose to not block Clowney? It has happend a few times today. The TN RB gets the ball and Clowney is there almost immediately.

My gawd does the Big Ten look horrible right now.  Minny was swamped by a bunch of teams and NW is struggling to keep up with them, and MSU has scored exactly 7 offensive points against a Purdue team that is probably the worst in the conference by a comfortable margin.  I know people are still down about last week, but I've seen nothing to make me think that UM can't win out until the Game.

You do understand we are just like those teams right?  We are highly flawed just the same.  We cannot execute HALF our offense in any shape or form (the running game) unless Superman does it.  If Superman ever gets hurt there is essentially no offense.  We are no different than these teams - they are all flawed.  We can win all those games and lose a good # of them just the same.

Haven't watched the game but I'm impressed with Mizzou for handling Florida to this point with a young quarterback. The Gator's defense is supposed to be legit. At the very least Florida has to drop out now but with the SEC you never know.

Northwestern faces an eternal quandry: it can't get a real homefield advantage when its fans don't fill the stadium, but its fans won't fill the stadium until they start winning big, which won't happen without a real homefield advantage...

Fitzgerald got really ballsy and it paid off. Two 4th down conversions for NW when all they needed was a field goal. Now the pressure is on Minnesota to get a first down.

I expect zero transtive theories... UM-NW, UM-Neb, and UM-MSU will all be last minute games that are decided in the last 2-3 minutes.   These are all average teams.  Any given week based on penalties, mistakes, Devin INTs, special teams play they can win.  You put them all in a caged match and play 10 game series and they'd all be 5-5 or 6-4 at worse.

Well, the better teams are evenly average, but I worry that doesn't include us. It's OSU MSU Wisc Neb & probably in that order that are around average for D1. From what we've done, w/ exception of 3 qrtrs of ND game, we're in the tier below that of about even teams

Florida with their longest drive of the game! They have ten points on a muffed Mizzou punt and a kickoff return. They are going to double their offensive yards on this drive alone.

I'm curious on something. How big of a difference is the 3rd timeout when you are trying to kill clock? Is calling one pass really that big of a difference? I think the mistake a lot of OC make is calling the pass on third down. What about a play action roll out on 2nd down? If it isn't there then scramble for what you can get.

Edit: And Minny does just that on 3rd down and ends the game. More teams should be doing this.

Some lower to mid ranked top 25 teams in trouble and struggling late.  I hope this give Michigan a chance to move up if we get a convincing win today.
