Illinois got off to a quick start in terms of turnovers. Yikes!
alternate headline: man does job
Illinois got off to a quick start in terms of turnovers. Yikes!
Illinois' new uniforms make them look like Orgeon State.
You missed a great opportunity to Chart? Chart.
We are sure that Zook isn't pulling the strings still at Illinois, right? These guys still derp with the best of them.
PSU OL absolutely blowing Illinois off the ball on that drive. Why revert to McGloinster?
And of course Zookers it and roughs the kicker.
Middle of Illini defense looks soft
The announcers just questioned whether to accept first and goal from the four or to keep the fg. If there was ever a summation of the risk averse derpitude of conventional football wisdom in one sentence....
That is clearly a pick for Iowa. Nice job to take it right out of the receiver's hands.
Apparently a bad call by the refs will only get reviewed and overturned in Iowa City if it benefits the Hawkeyes. Never the other way around.
Here comes another one...
Rooting for Baylor to finally end the Mountaineers cakewalk. Illinois to go 3-2, and Minnesota and Northwestern to make it 5-0. Please don't suddenly start playing your hearts out Iowa and Indiana.
So much for Illinois and Minnesota, it's the curse of the stupid looking matte finish helmets. Iowa just pisses me off every year. Where was this team against Central and Iowa State? Seems like every year they play like garbage out of conference then step it up and play their hearts out and upset someone.
How did the one Minnesota guy not get the memo to get away from the ball? And how did the refs miss that touch? I think he was pushed into the ball so it doesn't matter, but come on.
And now they change what the ruling on the field was after the review? LOL WUT
I feel bad for Joey Galloway. Looks like he wants to jump out of the booth
Man Illinois sucks, Purdue wins that division going away
Miinesota just ran veer with max shortell
There's just no way around the many, many limitations of Matt McGloin
Am I the only one not watching football? I am going through the Avengers blu rays. I am on iron man 2 right now.
I'm setting up my new iPad while the wife watches some chick flick. Yay wife day.
I tuned in to "How the States Got Their Shapes." More entertaining than the B1G games so far.
WVU/Baylor tied at 14 at the end of the 1st. Can they keep the pace up and hit the over on a ridiculous 82.5 points?
....and by fast, I mean that, just like that, it was a 3rd and 15 situation.
Iowa looking like a team that could be trouble.
Or Minnesota is actually being exposed against average competition, remember this is the same Hawkeye team that lost to a directional Michigan last week.
If we gameplan correctly, unlike last year, Iowa should no be a problem. This is more of Minn getting exposed because of mediocre competition and a lack of Marquis Grey. I'm still more worried about Minn this year.
No they aren't.
Any team looks like trouble when they play Minnesota.
As they are mentioning, he is supposedly getting better managing the Penn State offense, but it is very hard to manage an offense while running 20 yards in the wrong direction.
...and their Ficken troubles with field goals continue. 47 yards, no good.
Now that was a succesful play action bootleg
So Minn defense just not good
Oops Indiana. Oops Minnesota. Oops Illinois.
I'm looking good on my 2 12:00 picks giving away the points by taking Iowa and Penn State. These games, however, are not looking good. I haven't watched a lot of the Illinois game. Why are they so bad at run defense?
A second string walk-on fullback currently leads the B1G in rushing touchdowns this season. Yup, the conference is down this year.
A walk on no less.
Edit - already mentioned.
A fullback no less.
Beckman looked incredulous on the sideline, but when your OL is getting exactly zero push, you basically need to get first downs straight up unfortunately.
Also, Illinois clearly just doesn't want to defend against the run. Obviously, they have to eventually run into the guy who is supposed to close the A gap, right?
That guy got ejected!?!?!?
several angles, clear that he stopped moving before the collision from later angles.
I'm starting to love Bubba Watson with his Happy Gilmore 1st tee shot....
Is anyone else watching WV and Baylor? I know this doesn't affect us at all, but the B1G games are completely one-sided. This is kind of like watching our 2010 Illinois game, except fun because your own team is not involved. These teams are actually going to hit the over on their point spread somehow.
this is far more entertaining than watching Illinois/Minnesota implode.
I have on. Basketball on grass, crowd is into it, B1G games are blowouts...This is much better to watch.
Eventually, they are going to lose some interest and the call will become a monotone, "Scheelhaase....forced out of pocket....picks up a few...."
I love the 2 offense's the WVU has used over the years...Run heavy kill ya on the ground with RR and now Pass heavy kill you in the air with Dana.
But one thing for sure in the big 12 Defense is optional...
Is this the anti-Zook? Tim Beckman will keep the offense out there on 4th and 9?
...and while this was conventionally a punting situation and probably not a good idea technically, Scheelhaase connects for a 1st down.
improve anything. Wva-Baylor is much more exciting football.
And I'm so done with alternate unis. You can't ever tell who's playing anymore.
And yet neither of those teams are great either.
smack pretty much all of the Big Ten around tho. Also, Stonum sighting!
Its not like they are covering anyone anyway, might as well send some extra guys at the QB
UCF and Missouri is on FSN-Detroit.
This WV offense is just insane. 35-24 WV going into the half...unless Baylor scores in the next 29 seconds, which is not unlikely.
And both defenses are insane too. Insanely bad. Good thing they play in the Big 12.
Well, I was joking, but....I mean....
So, Illinois just had a nice little "derp" moment regardless of whether or not this turns out to be a Penn State TD (which it shouldn't be, for Maudy was down at the 2, it seemed). 4th and Goal, INT, 99 yard return by Penn State for nearly a pick-six. Yes, Illini fans, your team just did that.
..and Penn State does the humane thing and tries for a field goal, which is then blocked - so ends the half. Yikes.
Baylor qb was past LOS
This Baylor/WVU game is officially ridiculous.
WVU defense = optional
Big 12=defense optional
This raises the question, how in the hell did WV not put up this much against Maryland? And how bad is Maryland that they couldn't put up more points?
just finished watching the 1st half of the WVU game. I'm not sure if you can call it exciting or awful.
...as well as studying the box score, and my only questions would be the following -
Why is it that I have trouble putting up these sorts of numbers in video games?
Is tackling just not a thing in the Big XII?
Including the 41 yard punt return, WVU has allowed SIX plays of 20+ yards in the first half.
So next question: how good is NW this year? They have actually beat BCS opponents...
...at the Minnesota-Iowa game are on the field and sidelines.
there are more good things to come! I guess the alternative is to go knock around in a GM cornfield. . .
Iowa, I swear, is the most bipolar team I know.
West Virginia and Baylor are playing every bit as bad a game as Michigan State and Eastern Michigan played last week. The Fox guys are trying to sell this as super football, but both teams are only playing about 50% of the game.
Well WVU is a top 10 team right now so there's an automatic perception that no matter what they do, it's good. And Baylor is ranked as well. And the average joe just seem to think that lots of points is good football.
We should be fair, they have survived a combined gauntlet of Marshall, James Madison, Maryland, SMU, Sam Houston State, and Louisiana Monroe.
Oh, man, this Indiana/NW game is getting good...
is that each team has actually been forced to punt.
Penn State starts this drive at the 1 yard line, gets two, and after two incompletions, will punt, so nothing exciting there. That being said, McGloin is getting literally hours to throw because apparently the Illini defense is selling out against the idea that something will happen at all, never mind the specific play.
....and then Indiana goes back to being Indiana....
You need to make a "football move" which has no actual definition
Illinois gets cute and opens up the portion of the play book that didn't involve the pocket collapsing and Scheelhaase running for his life towards the edge. It is now 21-7 Penn State.
...and then Northwestern goes back to geing Northwestern...
"Watch him....right there....*raises knee*.....NO, DON'T....SH*T!"
Illinois ball, turned over on downs despite McGloin's spirited recovery of the fumbled snap.
Baylor defense looks quite GERGish today
sicker of fucking Geno Smith
eric i gotta give ya that, that was good
With 9-1/2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter he's 34 for 38 for 436 yards, 0 interceptions, 6 touchdowns.
He's been tearing it up for sure. Assisted by the defense that let Washington put up like 50 last year.
If they lose the game despite this, does he still get invited?
A field goal attempt, Baylor? Why not just forfeit now? Obviously, they missed it anyway. These teams are now a combined 0-3 on field goals. Train your sons to be kickers.
That was a nice play on the 2pt by Indiana
There is a CRAY CX1000 making preliminary calculations of the offensive stats for WVU-Baylor as we speak. There is a guy with a watch calculator and a 3x5 card doing the same for defensive totals.
This is my first time watching G. Smith and he's a dandy. I know Baylor isn't playing any good d, but the numbers are still ridiculous.
Typical Big XII. All offense, zero defense.
True, but he's been placing the thows perfectly all game no matter where the defender is. It's been quite impressive.
Not sure who I want in that Indiana NU game. I really like Pat Fitzgerald and what he's got going there at NU, but they're a divisional opponent. Still, I'd really like to see them ranked.
Is IL just this awful or is PSU semi good?
Illinois is this bad.
Illinois is awful, penn state isn't awful.
Illini got blown out by La Tech so I'm gonna go with them being terrible
Is it just me, or has Iowa abandoned the run out for fear of tempting AIRBHG? Weisman has about four carries in the second half while Iowa is trying to nurse a big lead.
Defensive stop? Whaaa???
Penn State has had 4 1-yard rushing TDs today, but since Illinois has taken the stance of proactively blowing itself off the ball rather than playing hard at the LOS, it isn't a terribly significant statistic sadly.
That is the number of fans at the Miami(YTM) vs. NC State game. Embarrassing fan support.
It took until the end of the 3rd quarter and 56 points for Baylor to blitz Geno Smith. That is just terrible coaching. I'm sure Baylors coach knows more about footbaww than me but that is just grotesquely stupid.
You don't need to be good at coaching to recognize bad coaching. I could never write a novel, but I still recognize poor writing. I agree, that D coaching is just terrible. On both sides of the ball.
I stopped watching the two nationally televised B1G games awhile ago. However much I want to defend the league against those talking about how weak it is, I can't believe how bad some of the teams are. It's embarrassing.
The current Penn State drive is achieving its intended purpose of showing you how bloody awful the Illini rush defense is, but in slow motion. It is a class move perhaps to at least run down the clock a bit and try to not get 10 to 15 yards on dive plays though.
Worst Waldo alert.
Wasn't that a straight man coverage
Smith is very good. He doesn't panic; he sees the field and he gets the ball to where it needs to be. But, Baylor just spectacularly busted on an 85-yard touchdown pass. 63-49 with 14 minutes left in the game
This was the worst noon lineup of games I've ever seen. I should've just done yardwork.
They have officially cost me all of my FreeSportsBet money...
Am I missing some concept, but when you're bringing 7 men on a blitz, why don't they tighten up their DBs on the WR? The only way to beat that blitz is a quick throw, which you just hand the other team when playing 8 yards off the WR.
Iowa seemed to play well in the first half, aided by a couple long runs. But, Vandenberg's stats just seem ok, and the offense as a whole hasn't scored in the second half. Four turnvovers by the Gophers, meh.
For anyone who talks up how bad the defenses in the Big 10 are, watching these Big 12 teams "defend" each other is offensive.
I see what you did there. lol
A lot of empty seats in the upper decks in EL. What gives?
If only Denard could play more like Geno Smith.
Seriously. The walkons on our scout team play better defense than WV and Baylor. "Geno Smith looks great today!" Lol, the other team is "rushing" 3, refuses to blitz, and their DBs are literally jogging after the receivers.
I was just typing that this was like video game football, and the announcer just said "this is like video game football."
He's not wrong.
That one handed catch was insane by WVU
I have a question for all of you. Baylor just got within 7 with 3 min left and WV lined up for onside kick recovery. I'm not trying to debate whether you should kick it away or not, but given that Baylor (or whoever) is kicking it away I think there is something else they could try. Just pooch it about 30 yards downfield and see how it bounces. The receiving team only has one guy deep and everyone else is going to be back by your cover guys who are sprinting downfield. Even if the deep guy runs up to field it he is most likely going to just fall on it, so it's not like you would give up much over a touchback. Is there a downside to this that I'm not thinking of? A good bounce gives your team a decent chance at a recovery I feel like.
