Some big noon games today, including MSU @ Iowa, Nebraska @ PSU and OSU @ Purdue, among others
well that's just, like, your opinion, man
Herbstreit says all he can think of when he hears UM/ILL is last years 67-65 game. Not mentioning it was in 3 OT, he then says it will be an ugly game for the winner. Wow, thanks for your insight, douche. (he said this earlier about the winner winning ugly, not during their pick segment)
Can you see this ILL offense scoring 65 points? I sure as hell can't.
[Not really ours, either. Especially if Hoke and Co. decide to really stick to power running for 2/3 of the game a la Iowa]
Especially if we break up the rhythm with Denard running that two quarterback set. Free Denard!
Herbstreit says all he can think of when he hears UM/ILL is last years 67-65 game. Not mentioning it was in 3 OT,
Are you implying that it was the just the three OT sessions that made the game look like a putrid defensive outing? 45-45 in regulation isn't much prettier.
Putrid, yes, but there's a difference between putrid and the worst defensive game in the history of college football. 65 points is more than any losing team has ever scored in regulation (at least in D1).
PSU is gonna crush 'Braska today.
Now if only MSU could lose too...
I think $party will lose. lets go IoCAW and Penn St.
For some reason I feel like Purdue might sneak a win out over Ohio.
This was too emotional to watch... I hope Penn State wins. It's a sad feeling when your whole world collapses around you and to fight back and win one for the university at this time and bring unity and togetherness would be just perfect.
Yeah it was tough, these poor kids at Penn St. I'm seriously pulling for a B1G 'ship for these boys, especially if MICH can't win it.
I want to see McNutt torch them all day.
So are they going to play football or pray all day?
I turned on the tv when the players were circling up at midfield to pray. What happened before? Was this planned?
Very emotional. I really hope Penn State can crush Nebraska on senior day.
If we win out, Nebraska is no threat to us in the division so it does not really matter to us if they win today or not. Personally, I want them to win so it looks better when we beat them and because I do not want PSU anywhere near the B1G championship game.
Purdue driving early.
Very nice to see Nebraska and PSU meet to pray. In a week that has been almost more focused on Joe Paterno than the victims, its good to see the players show their respect for those kids.
Spielman sounds Eeyore-level down and droopy every Saturday. I don't even want to know how bad he's going to sound calling the Penn State game.
Tom Rinaldi is insufferable.
One if the most emotional seens ive ever seen on a football field when both teams prayed together for the victims. Well done guys... Well done...
I had no idea Urban Meyers father died yesterday. Per the game announcers. Terrible to hear for him.
I guess that explains why he wasn't there with them last week either.
OSU goes 3 and out.
Purdue drives down easily and gets a FG
Boiler Up ... or ... something like that.
B.J. Cunningham TD reception, MSU 7 IOWA 0
damnit msu up 7-0 early
Sparty is MANBALLing Iowa down the field. Easy TD. Gonna be a long day for Iowa.
Really carved up the Iowa D on that drive.
Jeebus Martinez just got crushed.
another 3 and out by osu
It didn't even look like Miller was attempting to pass on that 3rd and 12.
Their school helped cover up the molestation of little boys. They don't deserve any redemption for that. The players may not have had anything to do with it, but coaches, administrators, and the school at large did. They certainly don't deserve any catharsis just because the players are caught in the crossfire. Penn State playing for/winning the title would be an embarrassment to the whole Big Ten.
They can lose by 50. They in no way have "suffered enough" as a community.
Completely agree. I don't feel sorry for Penn State whatsoever, and I hope they get killed by Nebraska. Have Penn State as the Big Ten champ this year would be a disaster.
have either been fired or are leave. You people are applying collective guilt to a whole campus and that is wrong.
I don't think anyone feels sorry for teh administrators, BUT this isn't the players fault, they didn't do a thing wrong, and if you can't feel sorry for them for having to go through something like this then you suck as a human.
And if the people who helped facilitate their victimization get some comfort by the same thing that comforts the players, it's not worth it. It's been a bad week for Penn State. Considering what was done to little children that will scar them for life, not bad enough; and a week not long enough. After they've cleaned house and a new season comes, then MAYBE they deserve "a healing moment". Certainly not yet.
These people are holding up "this one's for you, Joe" signs. The players are collateral damage. But they've hardly suffered so much that they're "owed" or "deserve" a victory. Because the school hasn't earned any redemption yet.
No matter how much time passes redemption will not come from what happens on the field.
However, a sense of normalcy can start to return. This game should be cathartic for the community at large. That some of the guilty will also solace makes little difference to me. They are but a tiny portion of a larger community. My empathy is for the gat majority. I do to wish to see them suffer for the despicable acts of a few.
The game could do it with a win or a loss. But people were rooting for them to win.
You'll have to provide facts for that rather ridiculous assertion. The coaches and administrators did that is true. But the entire school? I don't think so.
If not the President? And the 50 years at the University head coach?
If you're asking if I think the dorm lunch lady was involved in the cover-up, then no.
But you said the whole community, which would include people who had no involvement.
No man or woman is representative of an entire entity. No one. To blame the entire PSU community for acts they were unaware of, much less condoned, is flat out wrong.
Collective guilt ought it exist in today's world.
And makes coaches believe they are above having to report this stuff? That the program image is more important than doing the right thing?
The "community" has shown an outpouring of support not primarily for the victims, but the people who have been fired. And rioted over it. This is hardly a "community" with perspective and remorse.
You guys are having an interesting debate, but I think I agree with M-Wolverine. Your view seems to lead to some odd conclusions. For example, when a program is caught cheating (OSU, USC, etc.), is it illegitimate to cheer against them just because the majority wasn't involved? When a program displays MSU-style dirty play that seems to be endorsed (or at least tolerated) by the coaching staff - but most players play cleanly - is that not reason to root against them?
I like the point above about the players being unfortunate collateral damage. At PSU, a whole lot people (other than Sandusky) acted inappropriately, and that includes extremely central, powerful figures and a major part of the community as a whole.
But you don't understand!! My neighbor who is a PSU fan wasn't apart of it so it's not their fault!!
You mean your neighbor was a part of the scandal?
players being unfortunate collateral damage.
includes extremely central, powerful figures
And they've been canned. They're gone. And they won't be the last ones fired and there will probably be some people going to jail in addition to Sandusky.
Cheering against PSU is rather pointless at this point, IMO. At this point with the coaching staff gutted and the major persons involved fired, rooting against PSU is just rooting against the current players. They didn't do anything wrong.
I don't necessarily think anyone is "bad" or even "wrong" to root for PSU. Just that the initial unanimity of it was kinda shocking.
To say nothing of the disgusting fan protests. I want their fans to never see another win.
Agreed. Most of the fans made it about JoePa when it clearly had nothing to do with who he was. The fact that it was Paterno made the story so much bigger, but even if it was Billy Bob the water boy I'd be calling for his head. A lot of them still don't get it, either. The riots made them look like horrible people, and for that, I say screw them.
That'swhy I call bullshit on that and that bullshit ass vigil they had last night. Nobody gave two shits about these victims. They were more outraged over Paterno's firing than what happened to those kids. They are just trying to wipe the egg off of their faces now.
I think a candlelight vigil is weird to have anyway. They make it seem like the victims are dead with the way their acting...
In case anyone missed that PSU-Illinois barnburner a couple weeks ago, it looks like PSU and Nebraska may be producing a repeat showing. PSU was inept as usual on their drive and Nebraska has negative rushing yards so far.
MSU intercepts Iowa, return to their 19.
Iowa could be done early in this one.
OK that was actually a really good interception by Sparty. So much for Iowa controlling their destiny
Ed: Anyone else see the ticker at the bottom of the screen? PSU received bomb threats for Beaver Stadium
Ed. Ed. Glad the refs got that catch right for MSU /notoverlastweek
how did we have so much trouble with this d last week
I think our offense was just uncomfortable. Clearly the rotating of Devin/Denard isn't working, and if Toussaint is off, then we have no run game... Except Denard, who, we were trying to run from center.
Really the offense was tailored to Denard's weaknesses last week.
...we're just not very good.
Man, I wish I had another theory.
Michigan State might just be pretty darn good, by Big Ten standards.
Michigan is trying to MANBALL with an offense more suited for the spread option. Square peg, round hole.
PSU just caught some luck on a 3rd and long. Pass deflected off one receiver right to another one for a long gain.
Mcgloin just threw a block on a reverse to help his reciever pick up 3 yards.
PSU missed field goal. I'm calling 2-0 for this game.
Is the Purdue - osu game on BTN?
Yes. Purdue threatening again.
Yes, BTN. Purdue now up 10-0
T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E the Iowa team we got DISGRACED by last week is. Still fucking pissed about that totally lame performance....never should have come down to one series. Iowa has their worst team in at LEAST 20 years, and Illinois isn't much better. Illinois BARELY beat WMU and NW...teams we handled with relative ease. We should NOT lose today.
Unlike many of you, I like Borges. He didn't drop passes, fumble, or miss any tackles.
...but we also still have one of the worst Michigan teams in decades also. Just doesn't look that way because the only 3 worse were, uh, 2010, 2009, & 2008.
I think the Jake Christensen-led Iowa teams would disagree.
The six Iowa teams with losing records in last 20 years would probably disagree with you. You've got no idea what you're talking about, do you?
but seriously, I don't recall an Iowa team any more inept than this one. Remember too, the Big Ten is in a down year, and I'm pretty sure Iowa barely finishes over .500,
Also, I'm venting. You get that, right? Fact remains...Iowa is a bad team by their standards.
10-0 good guys
Nice 10-0 lead for Purdue to start the game. Hopefully it continues.
purdue is looking pretty good against osu right now
not a pimp
Why U no playz good at Kinnick this week?
I thought Iowa would at least make this a game 'cuz of the Kinnick Effect. Last's weeks loss feels even more frustrating.
It was no easy task to lose to them last week.
Taylor Martinez is 1/6 for 15 yards. Didn't the B1G used to have good QB play? Who is the best QB in the conference after Russel?
Lots of drops there too though.
Excuse my ignorance but who is the man behind the myth?
"Lloyd Brady" is so named because he looks like a perfect combination of Lloyd Christmas (Dumb & Dumber) and Tom Brady. I DARE you to look at a good pic of him and disagree.
I figured the name was a reflection of his appearance but is he a student (current), or alum or just a superfan? Thanks for the info :)
that he is a current student. I know this much for sure...the dude has a seriously awesome first row seat in the Big House student section...that's part of why he is on the big screens so often. The other part is, well, he's LLOYD FUCKIN" BRADY, fergodsakes.
For the edification! My mind is now at ease :)
Borges will hopefully study this first quarter by Purdue. This is an offense we can run, and we have better athletes.
Iowa made a defensive stop? Maybe McNutt will stop screwing up on 3rd downs now.
poor passing QB.
with them continuing that next week
another 3 and out by OSU. no first downs yet for them
McNutt is a pimp
.....and McNutt reminds everyone that he is in fact very good. Wow.
Coker has a mean stiff arm. Couple Spartans just bit turf.
McNutt look injured or something on the sideline.
Nebraska having some issues tackling. They look pretty inept on the road again.
Nebraska's add is turrible
Nice to see that Iowa only shows up against UM. Ugh!
Sparty noooooooooooooooooooooo moment but they recovered the fumble.
Iowa probably should have had a fumble recovery, but does get the 3 and out.
I have a feeling this may swing the game in the other direction. Purdue settling for 3 on that drive is going to come back and bite them in the ass.
Guys, sorry to interrupt...funny story.
I just called ESPN.com to cancel my suscription and forgot the name I used for the account was "Fielding Yost."
The lady called me Fielding the entire time.
K, sorry, had to share...continue....
Your first name isn't Fielding?
I thought everyone used their real names on here.
Penn St. Vs. Nebraska is pretty boring...TT is getting smashed...guess ill watch Iowa/Sparty & TSIO/Purdue.
Nebraska makes a field goal. My dream is done. 3-0 is still possible, though.
when that defender creeps up
Les Miles vs. his old school for all the marbles?
(MSU, yes that MSU about to score again)
Iowa cornerback goes for the pick and misses. Huge gain for Sparty. Just go for the hit, man.
HOW IN THE WORLD DID TEXAS TECH BEAT OKLAHOMA! THEY ARE GETTING A BEATDOWN FROM OKST!
Because they've been getting waxed a lot, not just today.
You gotta get that ball if you go for that pick. At least knock it down.
MSU has fumbled the ball 3 times and has recovered all three. I'm not even surprised anymore.
in this game. Only Dantonio's unholy alliance with Satan has prevented a turnover
the B1G really does suck
Anyone know who is announcing the UM game today?
Not Pam Ward, and that's all that matters
Flags are killing Iowa this week. Must suck when it is actually called.
their OL is dominating
off...that holding on gholston was really weak and so was the one on the big kick return
OSU cannot stop the WR screen at all.
Don't say bubble screen ! :)
Once you get past the emotional thing, the Nebraska PSU game is a coma-inducing puntathon.
looks really good. It's amazing the fluctuations in performance from week to week in this conference.
17-7 Boilers. All aboard!
Boy, I miss the big back at Michigan.
That is why Dunn would make a nice addition to this class.
Line up Denard next to Devin, either fake or give to Denard or vice versa. Seems like that would work a lot better than the sweep play they've been running.
For anyone interested, Mizzou just went up 14-3 on Texas. I always enjoy watching Texas lose.
Ash just threw an int in the endzone right before the half.
stupid msu score again before the half 24-7
I can't remember what team to root for in the Neb PSU game. I am conflicted, I want Neb to get their nose bloodied in Big Ten play but also want them to have a better record so we have a good quality win next week.
Iowa got screwed there. They should have at least looked at the interception. If we can get a TD called back when the ball didn't hit the ground, MSU should get an interception called that wasn't an INT. here's to a sparty no 2nd half
And Iowa fumbled the kickoff. How could they have played so well last week??
when a guy has your leg in a vice, and your hovering barely above ground nearly on your knees, you should always fight to stay up in that position and let 3 guys come and pummel you
Looks like we're just playing for pride now in the Legends division.
that well last week. We were just terrible. Frustrating.
We didn't play nearly as bad last week as Iowa is playing this week. Iowa played possibly their best game of the season last week and Ferentz decided to grow a pair mysteriously.
no Iowa played about 50 times better last week than this, but we did play pretty bad last week.
Insurmountable lead for the Huskers.
Looks like Sparty will punch their ticket to the BIG championship game. Unless they do a classic Sparty choke up down the stretch.
Nebraska hits double digits. Probably the clincher.
MSU continues to have their way with Iowa.
Iowa is done
How did UM lose to this team?
Facepalm. One doesn't know
Iowa SUCKS and we should have won by two TD's. No excuse for losing last week.
we aren't very good
but we are better than lowly Iowa this year. We are also far better than Illinois, but I won't be stunned if we blow that one too.
Why do you have to insist on UM supremacy over reality?
in their other games. Their game vs. PSU was a joke. I just don't think they've looked good at all. In which game did they impress you (except vs. UM)?
This week: MSU up, Iowa down.
Last week: Iowa up, UM down. Neb down, NW up. Minn up, MSU down
Two weeks: Neb up, MSU down. Minn up, Iowa Down
So on and so forth. Teams are different every week.
I'm not calling a Purdue victory by any means (they're more than capable of blowing this halftime lead) but if we don't beat this goddamn shitty OSU team, then holy shit.
(Insightful, I know)
As Salavtore said above we lost to this Iowa team that looks terrible against msu. It is pretty clear that everyone seems to get up to play us, but can't get their shit together against other teams.
the first half of the Iowa game makes me a sad panda...
It would be a classic sparty moment if they lose to Indiana. Hey you never know, and yes I agree with Ken when MSU plays teams their opponents are dropping passes and fumbling, throwing INTs shooting themselves in the foot with penalties etc.
they can fumble the ball away again here
Intent call, what?
Not complaining though.
low kick who called it and that should be a helmet to helmet and was called right
embarrassing, actually, that Iowa's win against us will be sandwhiched between a loss to Minnesota and a blowout at the hands of MSU for them.
damn, he is a large man
since ND. Getting OSU before all the players returned was just the start. Goulston (sp? but who cares) should have been suspended for THE YEAR after the UM game. If Dantonio had any stones (he doesn't), he would have thrown the asshole off the team.
Let's not pull supremacy clauses on player actions. No coach in America tosses a kid for that
seriously, don't you think there should have been some consequences for the helmet twist? All they mentioned was the punch, but the personal assault on Denard was more offensive to me.
Gholston should have been suspended for 2 games IMO. One for the punch, one for the helmet twist. He was suspended for 1 because that is what Big Ten has done in the past. Saying he should have been gone for the year was an overreaction many fans fell in to. Either way, it's done now, it's been a while sense that happened, let's get over it and quit sounding like sour grapes.
How does MSU look unimpressive every week and still lead the Big Ten? Aside from the Big Ten sucking this year, I mean.
Also, how is it that the refs are managing to have an eagle eye for Iowa's misdeed this week? Where was that last week?
You are awful
don't worry though usually the good guys like Brady Hoke get the last laugh at douchy guys like Dantonio. OSU down 17-7 and the BTN studio guys just said it might be enough to melt down bucknuts lol
Dr. Rodney Erickson (finally) makes a public apology (more or less). Looked authentic.
Well, no time better than the present. It felt a bit too much like PSU trying to redefine/rebuild their brand though.
Pull up college rankings. Charity is always going to be arbitrary to measure
I would suggest it doesn't bear responding to these sort of neanderthals. There's some folks you just can't reach.
Other than Michigan's undergrad school, law, medicine, engineering grad, business and just about every other program, PSU is better academically.
Look at world rankings that include grad programs - Michigan is elite, PSU, not so much.
Ann Arbor vs State College, located in the middle of nowhere, with not very much in the way of anything except a dairy bar that sells good ice cream.
I wouldn't be bragging about anything right now. They've just gotten the biggest STFU black eye for the next 20 years.
engineering, the medical school...... I don't live close to UM so I'm not really sure what they're doing for the community. The only university that can claim they have better academics in the BT is Northwestern.
at the end of the recruiting cycle last year? Sweat is out and they mentioned some other freshman coming in, and it didn't sound like the 5* guy
Braxton Miller is scary good as a runner. He has terrific vision.
Braxton Miller is starting to scare me. I was hoping his confidence would be shattered by his early issues.
"bad news, good news" but hasn't said anything further. Damnit, Brian.
Sparty fake field goal seems a bit unnecessary when you are up 24 in the second half and Iowa has shown no signs of life.
Last week Sparty beat Minnesota by seven. The week before they lost to Nebraska 24-3. This league is full of Jekyl/Hyde teams. Wisconsin, in the end, will probably end up winning the thing.
Exactly. Miller looks like he's getting comfortable running around making plays. He's only going to get better every week.
Screw your Let's Go Blue ripoff Purdue!!!
Braxton Miller looks like the type of player we thought Devin Gardner would be.
Based on what? He's still like a freshman out there, like Miller. Gardner can throw fine, and can't be expected to excel in spot duty. It's not like he can get into a flow (maybe part of your point though).
Gardner's decision making is terrible. Miller may not be great, but look at that play where he converted a 1st down after scrambling for about 6 seconds. On a similar play, Gardner managed to throw when 4 yds past the line of scrimmage. Miller always looks like he knows what he's doing, even if he can't execute. Gardner just looks confused.
Running I'll call a push, because OSU's line is >>>>>>>> ours. (Actually, most of the B1G has better line play than we do, but don't get me started . . . )
Devin's a bust? since when he has two/ three more years to prove his worth.
Let's hope he has three more years. He didn't play after week 4 last year.
Compared to Braxton Miller (a true freshman) he is.
Tell me honestly: if you had to start one of them next week, who would you choose?
some life for Iowa!
In my dream world Sparty derps the fourth quarter and Iowa wins by 1 with a last-second TD.
Purdue alignment derp costs them a big completion and knocks them out of field goal range. That is why they are Purdue, I guess.
Offensive explosion in Happy Valley for those who nodded off. 17-7 Nebraska and driving. I can't see PSU overcoming that lead.
Iowa scores again, but it's too little, too late. Try not fumbling that kickoff at the end of the half and this might have mattered.
Mizzou still up 17-5, in case anyone cares.
Also, it hasn't been mentioned, but NW is whipping Rice 28-0.
And serious question here: What exactly makes the 14-6 USC (NTUSC) -Florida game so much better than any PSU game. Do we have any evidence to suggest that PSU is any worse than Cocky/Florida/UT/Georgia? The SEC seems pretty meh to me this year after the top two and possibly Arkansas.
In all of your estimations
i bet you Sparty fumbles here! missed fg here comes the hawkeyes!
Note to Purdue: He is running on every third down. Just in case you missed the Indiana game last week. I hope Mattison is paying attention to this.
3rd and 15? QB draw every time.
That TTU-OSU (NTOSU) makes me think Bielema has the right idea (83 at Indiana and 70 at Northwestern last year). Never take your foot off the gas pedal. If you're capable of winning 100-0, go out there and win 100-0. Nobody's talking about poor sportsmanship -- they're all talking about "domination".
Hell of a duck on that 3rd down throw by Miller.
Ummm...these guys need to color correct their cameras (PSU Nebraska game)
stay classy sparty faking injuries, phantom false start
Sparty is having some suspiciously convenient injuries...
Purdue and Iowa simultaneously get stopped on offense. Seems par for the course the last few years. PSU also picked up a first on fourth down, but I'm not sure how that fits in...
Purdue is doing their best to lose the game.
Hey Purdue, they're going to run the ball. Stack the box.
I'm continually amazed at how the wildcat works. It's a draw every time. Everyone knows this, yet somehow it picks up solid yardage for almost every team.
Come on Purdue one big stop here!
And this is why you are Purdue...
OMG. Nice job Purdue.
Wow it was blocked...lol
Braxton Miller is king of the broken play. That's ridiculous. He is going to be annoying for four years simply because he isn't really that good, he can just run around in the backfield until something opens up
We haven't even played him yet and I already hate him.
purdue blocks it!
on the scoring play.
Nothing stupid here Purdue...
I told my wife - who sat down for a moment - that Purdue would throw a pick guaranteed. I was pretty pleased with myself.
she left again
How good is Purdue's kicker?
He is pretty good.
Really, really good. And with the wind.
Why would they do that...
They really Purdue'd that play.
guh interception every one knows you're suposed to go for short passes in that situation.
I guess that will matter for overtime
Andddd thats why they're still purdue. Might as well chalk this one up as an osu win.
PSU had 2nd and short and ended up turning it over on downs. Nebraska will hang on 17-14. Good win for them.
Luke Fickell always looks lost whenever they show him on the sideline.
Pretty sure he's got a vomit bag he carries around with him at all times.
Do not blow this Purdue! Big stop!
Nice call by the announcers there. Not even close to a first down.
lol ya that was ridiculous.
Cover the hook...
Pretty questionable play call there by Purdue on second down. Time to bring back the WR screen.
McGloin just threw a -2 yard pass to the middle of the field in the hurry up offense...
Marve with a nice tough run there.
Just kidding about that WR screen. That was not well blocked at all
First down Purdue!!!
Appear to be other than sort of good, except for the fucking Sparties.
Further, some of the coaches decisions have been really beyond stupid.
We can beat Nebraska and I almost said should, but let's see what happens today.
Boiler up :)
We do realize that Purdue is now 2-1 against OSU the last three years and we haven't beaten them since 2003, right? This makes me need a drink.
Yeah, but OSU just lost their 4th game of the season. Drink to that!
The You Tube video with Adolph Hitler admonishing his boys for losing to Purdue? It was probably last year or 2009 but hilarious.
Purdue we wax. Then OSU loses to them.
Anything can happen on a given weekend, and the road is a pain.
It must be Teamswithmisplacedpriorities Lose Day!
I repeat Tom Rinaldi is insufferable.
Buckeye tears for everyone
Is there a drink in AA called "Buckeye Tears"?
one of the AA breweries should do a "Buckeye Tears Red" ale.
on the PSU crappola! Telecast the Michigan game ASAP you total assholes!
Give me a bloody break and....
