Noon Game Thread

Submitted by alum96 on

Our first and second most important rivals face off in Champaign (ABC) and then our fifth most important rival hosts the Turrible Terps (ESPN2).

Just from a curiosity standpoint perhaps the widest line I can recall seeing btw 2 teams from the same P5 conf is today where TCU is favored by 45 over the smoldering remains of Charlie Weiss (FS1).  Who is still getting paid!

For those who hate their eyeballs, I present to you the BTN game with Purdue traveling to NW.  The Flailing Narduzzis travel to Duke in a game there can be no winners on ESPNU.  Whodda thunk GA v Auburn would be a meaningless Nov game back in August? (CBS)

is that maryland is so inept that they can't take advantage of how weak MSU is right now to get the win. so sparty will end up winning here, on the back of a few passes by cook.

two punts under 20 yards?! jeez.

Who do you blame more for bad teams like Maryland, players or coach?

On one hand, it's the dam players who make he catches, throws, runs, etc., so you can only expect so much out of coaching.

But on the other hand, you have to think that if say Harbaugh or Meyer were to coach a team like Maryland they would be a very competitive, well executed team.

Teams like Maryland can go through a hundred "Hoke" type coaches and never be very good, but you can't tell me that the minute a a harbaugh goes to a team like that, that they don't become a very competitive team and do make stupid mistakes. Like dropping easy passes nearly as often as they do.

As much as we want to pi** on sparty, their coach made them a better team. If Dantonio is coaching MD, they will be better than what they are now. Coaching makes a big difference. We are pretty much fielding the same time and look at the improvement we have made.

Cook looks really bad right now.  Throws aren't there, clearly still injured.  I'm not expecting that there will be a switch until halftime, but this feels like a game where if you harbor any hopes for a playoff spot, you rest Cook and see if you can squeak out a win against a bad Maryland team with your backup and defense.

They cannot continue to play Cook. Look at what Harbaugh did on a critical on the road when we were not playing our best. We put a RS freshman in the game and we won.

Also, MSU has been helped immensely by Maryland's crappy punting.  So when MSU fans say this game would have been a blowout if Cook was healthy, counter that MSU also got a couple of under-30 yard punts.
