landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
Noon game open thread
Don't forget purdue-wisconsin on btn. This has got to be the best slate of noon games so far.
Yessss...sitting in sweatpants on the couch all by myself at noon for the first time this year. And I'm thrilled about it.
I was just asking the wife if there was some pumpkin fest that they might want to go to.........corn maize? somethin'!
An amazing feeling.
Plus my two week old son on my chest. Should make for a great day.
Same...but 3 week old dressed up in his game day gear. Pizza and Octoberfest.
Ive had a busy fall but I finally get a lazy Saturday all about football (and playofff baseball).
I'm out of popcorn
Good games at noon? How did this happen? Should be a good day.
Is it me, or is the Gameday crowd booing every time Desmond Howard speaks? Any particular reason that they'd be doing that?
He burned the Irish pretty good a few years back.
That 4th down play will live forever. I was in the stands for it too.
It's just the Michigan thing. Also, it certainly doesn't help that Desmond picked Miami to beat Notre Dame last weekend - don't know what he was thinking with that one.
Oklahoma over Texas
Iowa over Staee
NW over Minnesota
K-State over I-State
Purdue over Wisconsin
In case people weren't aware (as I wasn't), Louisville is losing to Pitt 14-7. That game is already in the second quarter. Is Louisville supposed to be good this year? I know they are undefeated, but how much of it is the product of the schedule?
They're in the Big East. Hopefully that answers your question.
Let's be honest, can we make that joke this year?
The Big Ten would likely go 8-0 against the Big East head-to-head. Would anyone be picking the BE in a matchup of Rutgers/Louisville/Cincinnati against Ohio/Michigan/Nebraska? Pitt/Syracuse/UConn wouldn't be favored against State/NU/Wisconsin. A matchup of IU/Illinois against anyone doesn't inspire confidence, but neither does USF/Temple.
I'm taking Michigan to cover over Purdue at noon and then cover v Illinois at 3:30
/one week behind secondary to honeymoon
and here we go.
Through that exact same weather at MSU vs M the past two times there. Awful.
Lets go Iowa!
Wow. Was he throwing to sparty. That was slow motion.
Northwestern already up 7-0. Minnesota is still not good. Also, does anyone know why the Minnesota helmets have Ski-U-Mah written on the back of them?
...gopher cheer. The rock, chalk, jayhawk of mosquito country.
Lee Corso: "NOT SO FAST! I choose #6 Kansas State to beat unranked Iowa State"
Kirk Herbstreit: "Blowout or a close one?"
Lee Corso: "..upset!!"
Kirk just nodded in agreement. It might be because he wasn't paying attention, or he might have just wanted to move on. It was odd either way.
Great start to the game for Vandenberg!!!!!!
Purdue also goes up 7-0 and Vanderberg makes up for that near pick by throwing an actual pick.
TD Purdue. I'd love to see them a second time.
Did I just see gholston "eating"?
He always does it. This was a common discussion last year but Michigan didn't invent it.
MSU jsut shoved the ball down their throat.
Defense optional in South Bend
No one is playing in South Bend right now. Did I miss the joke somewhere?
I meant West Lafayette. Weird brain fart... Must've been on my mind after gameday.
Wisky comes right down the field and ties it at 7. This game might be enjoyable. Minny had a chance to tie, but the QB couldn't lead his receiver enough. 7-3 NW
Does anyone have experience with the firstrowsports desktop/HD app? I'm hesitant to dl it since I still feel like its a shady site, but the thought of better streams is enticing.
Is this for Mac?
It might be new, I just noticed it today. Its a stand alone program for PCs. I might try installing it on an older computer and report back on how it is.
Update - Its completely worthless, dont bother.
There's no way in hell I would ever install something from that site. I love firstrowsports but it's shady as all hell, don't install it!
Two weeks ago I was driving back home from Des Moines to my house in SE Iowa. The Hawkeyes had just spanked Minnesota, and MSU was in the process of losing to OSU. Famed former Hawkeye radio announcer Jim Zabel (think Bob Ufer-level) was trolling MSU, and guaranteed that Iowa would beat MSU.
Dominic Alvis, d-lineman for Iowa, is my wife's colleague's nephew.
Go Hawks!!! GO BLUE!!!!!!!!
or be able to do anything on offense.
Alvis just stuffed the MSU QB on that stupid option.
Ray Vinopal just made a sack.
TerBush throws a red zone pick. Our English friend would already be calling for Mav-rah to come in and give the Boilers more energy.
Oklahoma up 7-0
Edit: missed extra point returned by Texas.
Nope. Texas returns the extra point all the way. Oklahoma up 6-2.
I still hope that I get to see a 1 point safety before I die
Not so fast, my friend. Texas blocks the extra point and returns it for 2 points. 6-2 Sooners.
Yup I spoke to soon.
What do we know about Iowa's Defense. Is out D-line betters, or do they have similar schemes?
That seems to be an understatement. Their fans are saying the same thing on ESPN
Can you imagine if Wienke had come to U-M to be quarterback? Would we have been set back even more with him around?
To beat MSU, stop the run. It just seems so easy to do.
Puntosaur version of Ferentz is in East Lansing. Apparently he only goes against his nature against Michigan.
OC is very Weis-like.
Pounding RB, 3rd and 2, go misdirection and short pass for no gain.
Silly Sparty. Draws are for teams with QBs who can actually run.
I thought they were running an option, I could be wrong.
Silly double post.
Omg. What made that seem like a good call for MSU? Is that the back up QB that MSU players touted as better than DRon
Sorry DRob. Fat fingered that last one.
Cook in at QB for MSU now. Commence Sparty meltdown.
He got destroyed, nothing to see here folks.
Interested in the wear that's going to put on Bell.
Then again, we may do the same thing...only it'll be a 6' 190lb QB.
Iowa over MSU?
Minnesota over Northwestern?
Doesn't seem to matter as much this week but I have much less faith in Iowa or Minnesota going on to win the division than I do for MSU or Northwestern
Sparty fans didn't even fill the stadium today.
They are National now....so therefore they aren't required to show up unless it is a "big" game.
Duke takes the 7-0 lead on Va Tech. The Blue Devils can become bowl eligible today with a win, go to 3-0 in the conference, and just about ruin any chance Va Tech has of winning the ACC. Weird.
We better destroy Sparty next week. They are just awful
But they are nowhere near as good as they have been.
They are pretty bad. Focus on their OLine next time they get the ball.
Don't put too much stock into this performance today. Iowa isn't exactly to the level of Indiana or EMU
no way one team "destroys" the other, I think both teams are pretty evenly matched, going to be very close. i hope our dline shows up, definitely scared of play action, maxwell seems to be getting somewhat better. key to the whole game next week: our dline and whether or not denard doesn't poop his pants in a big game.
To be fair, we used to destroy MSU every couple years. Granted, they are a better team now then they were then, but they are not on the same level as they were with Cousins around.
they aren't good but i don't think they are as bad as some around here think. I will be shocked if we blow them out, Gorgeous Al has seemingly come up with some odd game plans against a few times in the past year in a half, denard is gonna have to throw the ball well to beat them, they have to be more than short dink and dunks too because the box will be loaded. The key next week is denard's ability to NOT turn the ball over yet get over 100, and our dline. those two things happen, we'll be damn happy!
To be fair, so is ou-Texas. It's a blowout again.
What a fantastic block by the OU wide reciever on the long TD run.
Impressive 95 yard TD run by Oklahoma. Up on Texas 13-2.
I'm shocked at how poor Iowa's defensive front is.
TD Gophers! They pull within 14-10. Gray looks like a decent runner FWIW.
Wow...Mack Brown has been at Texas for 15 yrs? Seems like he just took that job about 5 or 6 yrs ago.
Wow....Iowa OLine is terrible. How Ferentz can sleep at night getting paid what he does for these results are beyond me.
Iowa is terrible. Just a horrible team.
Gorgeous Al is going to have to come up with something for Sparty.
Duke 10 VT 0
Turns out Weisman isn't as good when he's playing Not Minnesota. That's was a terrible block for such a big dude.
Minnesota stopped NW and got the ball in NW territory...then went back to being Minnesota. Pick on their first play and then Mark goes on a long TD run. I'm actually not looking forward to playing NW. Coulter and Mark are not fun to play against.
Just sad Iowa.....just sad. This has to be one of the worst teams Ferentz has ever fielded
The only good thing about this MSU vs Iowa game...Jenn Brown!
Who is Jenn Brown and why is she not around more?
Wisconsin's luck still pisses me off. All those years going to the Rose Bowl by playing the bottom dwellers, losing to a top Big Ten team, not having to play the other top big ten team, and now this year with OSU and PSU out, all they have to do is beat Purdue today and they have a 3 game lead in their division.
So when is Ferentz's contract up?
meanwhile Chizik and Auburn continue to suck. down 14-0 to Ole Miss.
EDIT: A blind squirrel found a nut..14-7 Rebels.
The Minnesota RB hit someone so hard the M on the side of his helmet flew off. That was pretty awesome. This kid is running hard.
Penalty negates a touchdown, and it wasn't even needed. Bad football being played by Iowa this year.
What a stupid penalty...
Worst block in the back ever.
No one worry...the Iowa offense has got this.
You can tell Weisman isn't a great RB because he stops/loses his feet with contact too easily.
The Badgers are suddenly looking competent against Purdue. I hope it's just that Purdue's spirit is still crushed from last week and not that Wisconsin is improving.
This Purdue/Wisc game isn't making me feel good about our win last week.
Their wins were over three terrible and overmatched teams. Their best game was a close loss to ND on the road.
Yeah, but Wisconsin has been barely more than a bad team this year as well. And they seem to be doing better on offesne and defense than we did vs Purdue. Not very encouraged by this game.
We were up 18, and it was only that close because of the fumble. We won 44-13. Chill out.
Weather looks crappy in East Lansing. I'm 15 miles east of Ann Arbor and the sun is just barely starting to come out.
Oklahoma beating Texas 20-2. The Horns do not have a first down and have 14 yards of offense to Oklahoma's 239. Wow.
Yikes. Duke up 20-0 on Virginia Tech.
Too bad Iowa had to settle for 3 there. Nice work recovering from getting their return TD called back.
1st Quarter: Duke 20, VT 0
Are we living in the bizarro world?
This Texas defense is pretty bad
I wonder when Purdue finally realizes Terbush just isn't any good...kid sure has a lot of rope.
It's not like they have much else in the way of good options. Marve is pushing his luck on a 3rd torn ACL, and Rob Henry has done nothing.
You make due with what you got, and what Purdue has at the QB position just isn't very good right now.
Purdue safety drops an INT in his own end zone, enabling Wisc to kick a FG. Championship football.
Wow, what has happened to Texas?
Oklahoma just beating Texas to a pulp 27-2.
LOL at Iowa...
That's a forward pass.
VT scores. They will not be shut out by Duke at least.
Texas: 12 plays, 14 yards. Oklahoma: 34 plays, 314 yards. Maybe Oklahoma is actually good.
Well..this is probably Hope's last season, not sure who Purdue will reach for this time.
This was neither a forward pass/reception nor a fumble.
Incomplete forward pass.
One of the better offensive lines? HAHAHAHAHA
And is Ferentz really not going to go for it?
So dumb. I knew Ferentz would not go for it.
If Iowa punts I am quitting life.
Hawkeyes this week.
P.S. OMG was that clumsy.
Texas completes a 31 yard pass and then immediately throws a pick. I mean...
Nice work, Iowa. Idiots.
I think Ferentz told him to twitch because he wanted to punt.
I can't believe how far the Big Ten has declined. This is embarrassing.
I had sort of pegged MSU's rough game against Indiana as an anomaly , but it's looking more and more like State is just not that good. That said, Iowa looks atrocious.
In our game against MSU last year they blew it dead on a clear backward pass that we recovered without contest. Announcers just said if that happens then the only thing defense doesn't get is the advance, but try do get the ball. So why didn't we get the ball last year? That was a possibly game changing incorrect call.
Oklahoma has had trouble in the red zone for two seasons, but Stoops has put in the backup QB in those situations this game, and it has worked like a charm.
Edit: Backup QB is running the ball.
The Badgers are approaching 350 first-half yards in W. Lafayette. But their LT just got dinged so maybe that's the break the Boiler D needed.
That sequence was BIG TENNNNNN! personified.
Is MSU's sideline made with sand?
Just awesome clock management here by Ferentz and Dantonio. Jebus.
The last minutes of MSU-Iowa have just been so painful to watch. From Iowa's whole 4th down conversion, to MSU's attempt at hurry-up....
THE COACHES ARE SCREWING IT UP
SPARTY NOOOOOOOOOOOO LMAO
The coaches are screwin it up!
I was hoping for a JLS repeat from Dantonio.
Well, that was interesting. LOL. Good job Sparty.
sparty gonna spart....
total brain spart
the hell was that Sparty....pathetic
Holy shit that was the worst clock management I have ever seen
the kids are playing their hearts out, and THE COACHES ARE SCREWING IT UP!
Much hiijinks and hilarity. Sparty NOOOOOOOOOO!
Someone please do yackity sax to that ending to the half for MSU
red cedar message board explodes in 3...2....1...
I don't think I've ever seen that before. I wish they could have interviewed JLS after that.
JLS is slapping himself again.
on another note. 29 -2 (oklahoma v texas) might be the weirdest score thats ever gone across the bottom of my screen
Robert Marve just got sacked for a big loss, taking the Boilers out if FG range. He got up clapping.
That was absolutely pathetic. No wonder the B1G gets so much crap.
In other news, it may not be long before Mack Brown gets his pink slip. So much for that Texas defense.
I had no idea that came off a returned PAT not a safety. Hahaha Texas's only score came on an Okalahoma td. That makes it funnier.
Dantonio said something about trying to kill the clock, but I am sure that the clock died laughing there.
He's soooooooo old
He is probably so happy right now.
Okay, Texas Oklahoma is officially over.
I love watching Texas get beat down by the Sooners.
Isn't looking so impressive now.
Is it just me, or is Duke up 20-7 on Virginia Tech in the first quarter?
Kyrzewski must be coaching the football team now too.
Duke's lost 2 QBs don't be surprised if VT comes back, lucky cause they were gonna get blown out at home.
There are about 10K people at the Purdue-Wisconsin game. Pathetic
It's Purdue, so there's like 8,000 people and 2,000 droids.
Don't exaggerate, there is probably 12,000 people there.
Isn't Vandenberg supposed to be good??
But remember, Iowa GERG'd themself on offense
This drive is an open dare to AIRBHG, I fear...
You have to wonder if the have a backup LB that has been considering asking Ferentz for some carries on offense.
But this is sooooooo booooooring!
William Gholston isn't even that good
God Purdue is just terrible
The Gholston hype train rolls on. Announcer implies they have to double Gholston to have a chance, Iowa single blocks him and negates him, just like always.
"they did a good job blocking Gholston"
In other news, the left tackle has a pulse.
Michigan State keeps looking worse and worse. Wow!
There are only like 62 people in the stands
So much for a great fan base, they can't even fill half of the stadium.
Dammit Burbridge, Y U no study in HS?
Wow Purdue.....this is just sad. So much for Hope's best Purdue team.
If MSU loses, their fans will blame the loss on Burbridge being spotted 1 yard short of the sticks (instead of 1 foot short).
...because it's true.
"If you like punting...you've come to right place."
What a game!
OU absolutely demolishing Texas. Mack Brown is a very successful coach, but it doesn't appear that he can get his kids to play any more.
Mack Brown, Frank Beamer, George O'Leary...it's time to move into retirement.
Spurrier, Solich, Snyder...keep on keepin on!
All the MSU students must be at the library studying today. Oh, who am I trying to kid.
Terbush is absolutely awful...he must be a great practice player to constantly see the field.
He has a partially torn ACL or something like that. Sure he played a little vs. Michigan, but I'm not sure he's the better option over the course of the entire game.
I'm still convinced he is better than Terbush even on one leg.
I find it interesting that both Iowa and MSU have offenses which are centered around the punter. It gives other players a chance to shine that otherwise would not see the field much.
AIRBHG at it again!!! Run for your lives
In my 31 yearson this earth, I have never seen the Big Ten this bad.
I agree 100%. But, I think it will be a heck of a lot better here in a few years. I think there is a lot of young talent in the conference that has yet to see the field. At least that is my story, and I am going to stick to it.
Any reference to the years of your life must be preceded by "cotton-pickin"
I've said this a million times, but why not one more.
IMO, Michigan and Ohio will got back to dominating the league. Big 2 and Little 10. There will always be a 3rd team in there...Nebraska, Wisconsin, etc. but if you look back over a 10 year span, starting this season, I think you'll consistently see Michigan and Ohio at the top.
This is a big reason why I HATE Dantonio...more so than any other coach in the country. He benefited from Rich Rod not recruiting the state and Tressel's fall.
With Hoke and Meyer in place, MSU is officially "little brother" again. I know some people don't like that term, and that's fine. But just look at the recruiting in the state the past 2 years, it's not going to get better.
Back to 7-5 to 9-3 for Sparty. Sure they'll have good years, as will Iowa, Purdue and potentially Northwestern. Michigan or Ohio may dip to 3rd or 4th in certain years, but overall...the BIG 2 are back.
Honestly, just look at the Big10 recruiting rankings and you have your explanation for why the conference is doing so poorly. Almost half the conference struggles just to pull in a class with 3 stars across the board. This is not a recipe for success. Until that changes, you are going to see Michigan and Ohio dominate with a few other programs making a run every now and again.
I've figured out the MSU passing game: short crossing pattern across the middle set up by a bunch of other crossing patterns. It is literally the only thing in the pass game that has worked at all this game.
It took you this long to figure out the MSU passing game...
Well apparently Iowa hasn't...
Dantonio gets some Zook points for that punt. I guess since he's already got all the douche points, he's moving onto another category.
For most of the 70s, the "Big Two and the Little Eight" was not an exaggeration.
good job Weisman
This MSU defensive line is really bad if Iowa is just blowing them off the ball.
This MSU defensive line is really bad if Iowa is just blowing them off the ball.
Have you only watched one play of this game?
I guess if you call the zone stretch left every time, it will eventually work.
This Purdue/Wisc game is getting me sad. I thought we had a quality win (for B1G standards) against Purdue, but unless Wisc has regained their form from last season (which I don't think they have), Purdue is just terrible, terrible, terrible. Damn.
is everywhere in big ten country just having really crappy weather today?
Well I like to think we are beating Purdue for the 2nd straight week.
Apparently Iowa is incapable of any routes past the magical yellow marker on the field
Lets go Iowa!
Is it just my TV or is the Purdue-Wisky game not coming in real clear on HD?
It's pouring rain at Purdue.
I wonder how much longer RE is going to be in Ypsi. This was supposed to be a year where they finally busted through to respectability in the MAC, but looks like it's going to be a struggle to win even once.
without having access to the talent Lloyd had. He should have stuck to the spread.
He'll get a 5th year, but that will probably be his last unless EMU somehow finds a way to go 7-5.
Iowa scores a TD here and wins 12-10 on a game-winning safety.
that prediction might have worked out if it wasn't iowa
Our games not going to be on TV is it...
I've also figured out Iowa's passing game: run a two yard route. Everytime.
Why would you run a 2 yard route on 3rd and 7?
Why didn't Tom getting any love on that nice tackle on the RB as he was running his route without the ball??!! #allamerican
Anybody going to watch the Silva( don't know the spelling) fight?
Rutgers is going to remain undefeated. It will be interesting to see how they will be ranked.
Wow, Prudue has just completely given up at this point.
is that it doesn't matter how awful they've looked the last few games—they'll play their best game of the season against us next week.
Yep. And then they'll go back to being bad. Sunrise, sunset.
VT might be having a terrible season by their standards, but they've still got vastly more talent than Duke does, and eventually that takes its toll the later in the game you get.
Challenge the spot to pick up one yard for third down. Commit a pre-snap penalty before that third down. Your Michigan State Spartans, ladies & gentlemen!
I don't get it. It looks like Bell is moving in slow motion.
Iowa is not good. Indiana held Bell to 3.3 YPC
Bell has an interesting running style. He never looks like he's moving very fast, and his moves seem kind of slow and deliberate, but he makes people miss all the time.
Yeah, for a guy his size, he has amazing agility. I would deffinatly take him on out team.
as Ken said above, it looks like he's moving in slow motion.
Does anyone remember when Amp Lee from Florida State came to the Big House? I remember screaming at the TV, "he's WALKING...tackle him!" That guy was a Walking Back, not a Running Back, yet he could make people miss and then turn on the jets!
He basically walks to the hole and just hits the jets. He has great agility and accleration for his size,
Jesus, that's just who I was thinking of... what a nightmare game that was.
I think Bell has more pro potential, though. It's easy to forget how big he is. The guy's a hoss.
Looks like MSU fans really turned up today. I think I counted 83 people in the stands.
Texas/Oklahoma is not going to be done by 3:30. They better switch to our game when it's time.
ESPN2 has nothing scheduled after the Minnesota NW game...may be an option.
It is so painful watching this Iowa/MSU game. 3rd and 10? Throw a pass for 3 yards.
HAHAHA...man, I knew it was going to be a pass under 5 yards
This game has made that abundantly clear.
They wrested that distinction from Wisconsin with force today
What are the chances Mack Brown gets canned if Texas goes on to lose 2 or 3 more games?
I don't think they're going to fire him, he's revered here (I live in Austin). But, it's becoming apparent that Mack isn't getting very much out of what has to be one of the most talent-filled programs in the nation -- at least on paper. They've had some weird "down years" despite bacially having the pick of the litter in the state every year. Everyone was saying they their defense was going to be elite this year, but they've not shown up. I think they need new blood in the program, bu they're not going to fire Mack, they love him here too much.
For some reason Mack Brown's last few years have really reminded me of John Cooper at Ohio. Underperforming every year considering the amount of talent on the team and available for recruiting. Could be that a few more losses to Oklahoma will force Texas's decision just as Cooper's poor record against Michigan led to him getting canned.
never thought a little rain would effect people this much. I attented the monsoon in south bend in 08 and last years monsson to open against WMU. Quitters..
I think the fact that Illinois is awful, it is fall break for the students, weather is less than ideal and it has a 3:30 pm start time will kill crowd attendance today. Not much incentive to watch the worst team in the Big Ten play in lousy weather conditions if you are just an average Michigan fan.
It's the rain and 40 degree weather. I'd take 10 below over 35 and rain. Not that I'd turn down the opportunity to go to today's game if I were offered tickets, but I can see where people would stay away.
i know they are both bad, but that is just an absurd statement. App state had 27 scholarship players
Why wouldn't have have had the allowable 65?
And the Toledo loss was way worse. App. St was a national championship team that would've finished ranked 25-35 in the D1 that year.
Plenty of NFL talent on that team as well.
Reliving the horror as I am finally getting through three and out. That was a dark day...
And the one time they complete the screen pass, there's no blockers
Holy crap. Iowa threw the ball downfield.
This Iowa offense is just sad. Their playcalling makes Mike Debord look like Hayden Fry.
Holy Hawkeye, a 3rd and 6 off tackle left to the 8 yard line.
You mean non-predictable play call works? Lloyd Carr disagrees.
Iowa TD...EP to tie the game! Wow. Weisman is a stud! LOL!
Did you know Denard Robinson does not tie his shoes... I'm serious not tied.
Weisman with the career day. Good job.
Don't screw up the programming for my Michigan game! Maybe they'll put us on ESPN 2 for the time being...
Texas Oklahoma game ruining that for me. Really 12 minutes left still?
Did AIRBHG just strike again? Looks like Weisman hurt his leg on that TD.
5 Touchdowns in last 2 minutes of game time. Toledo 35-30 eight minutes left in 3rd quarter
Farentz does a hell of a job with that o line year end and year out.
But darn.... going to miss the start of the UM game because of this. Main reason i hate 3:30 games.
Please don't hold the game up ESPN...
The M game is on the same chanel as this suckfest in DC. Someone win. Quickly. I don't care who. Actually, I do, but mostly juat get this garbage off my television. For now, to the pirating!
You have to think OT favors Michigan State just because their offense is less bad than Iowa's.
by just putting the ball on the 12 and have them take turns kicking field goals.
No 2nd OT! Get this garbage over with.
are showing the same freaking game right now. COME ON.
There was 55 points score in 3rd quarter. Toledo leading 49-37 start of 4th quarter
Game time announcer for the Notre Dame game just said "if there was ever a time that a defense of player would be nominated for the Heisman it would be Mante Teo this year." Doesn't this idiot realize that Woodson already won the Heisman as a defensive player? I hate Notre Dame
I'd rather get an Iowa stop and a MSU missed field goal right now, but I'd be okay with a MSU TD just to get to the Michigan game.
LOLOLOL SPARTY NO!
