No wonder MSU is MSU
You lose to Nebraska, and your DC has to bring up Michigan
Narduzzi on Martinez: "He's faster than Denard, even though he thinks he's as fast as (Usain) Bolt. (Martinez is) flat-out faster."
edit: I guess in some fairness, he was asked to compare Martinez to Robinson. But to bring up the Bolt reference is just plain douchebag.

Some of MSU's players took to Twitter tonight to blame the refs for the loss:
One of Bell's tweets claims MSU really only lost one game this season (ND), while the refs were to blame for the rest of the losses.

Exactly. Setting aside the debate as to whether coaches should have the power to keep their student-athletes off of twitter, I am not sure what good can possibly come of the players being on twitter. Once they are identified as student-athletes at a particular institution, they expose themselves to a third party finding a tweet, which can be amplified, twisted, or misrepresented well beyond what the player intended.
I know on the Rivals board some posters have said things to the effect of "well, Michigan players make poorly thought-out statements on twitter/facebook too." I have no doubt that is the case (my only exposure to twitter is when other people post about tweets), but just more evidence that twitter + 18-23-year old athletes who are not necessarily media-savvy = not good, not good at all.

Have our players tweeted things like this - disrespecting the refs and opposing teams? I don't remember reading any (and I imagine they'd have made the press if so). I get the sense that our players fear the repercussions from Hoke if they tweet more than MSU's (apparently) do from Dantonio.

They had Nebraska down to one play and couldn't get it done well before the questionable Pass Interference call. Solve the problem don't make excuses.

He did make reference to the PI call at the end of the game—which I think was a horseshit call in Nebraska's favor—but he also bent my ear for 15 minutes about all the fuckups the Spartans committed along the way which were much more costly to them overall. They shot themselves in the feet repeatedly, and paid the price.

I know I'm suppose to be really sad that MSU lost but i'm really not. For two reasons: One - they're MSU and love to see them lose - especially when they impload like they did today. And two I just finished watching the point machine called Oregon take apart USC. Not saying we would definitely lose to them but the thought of going to the Capital Bowl or something and playing a second tier SEC team like South Carolina instead of Oregon doesnt seem THAT bad to me.
I know, i know Rose Bowl or bust and all that but jesus tap dancing christ Oregon plays at whole different level than anybody outside of Alabama.

According to the BCS computers they will. And I cannot even fathom how pissed off they would be in that scenerio. Seriously - outside of Alabama who in the SEC truly scares you? LSU? SC? Georgia? Texas A & M? I think we'd stand toe to toe with any of them.
Again - not saying i dont want to go to the Rose Bowl. Just saying that if we were to win out and NOT go it wouldnt be the worst thing in the world for us. I'd take 10-3 with a win at Columbus and a bowl game and call it a pretty successful season.

Agree that I like our chances against Oregon State and Stanford. Don't agree that we couldnt beat LSU, Florida or Georgia. And based on their remaining schedules if Alabama, Kansas State and Notre Dame all win out Oregon cannot pass them in the BCS computer rankings. So Oregon WILL be in the Rose Bowl if two of the aforementioned teams win out or if they lose a game.

sparty lost b/c on some level they realize that beating Nebraska would have helped Michigan; maybe the players don't realize this even now. 100% speculation, but I just think Dantonio/staff act like clowns on tape about Michigan, and that obsession seeps into the players' mindsets.
I heard in the car on the radio that Dantonio had the ball in Nebraska territory on 4th & 2 in the 4th qtr, and that Dantonio chose to punt it (ultimately into the endzone). I don't know much more than that, but something confidently tells me that he would have gone for it against Michigan in that same situation, to get the win.
November 3rd, 2012 at 11:31 PM ^
He did punt on 4th and 2 from the NU 40 with about 1:30 left.
As for whether he'd have done that against us, I don't know if he would have lined up and gone for it - but he'd have used that fake punt play for sure (if he hadn't already).
November 4th, 2012 at 10:30 AM ^
I think it was actually closer to 4th & 1.
The personal foul on Dennard's INT return was big. But seeing that punt sail into th end zone was when I knew for sure that State was going down.

IIRC, wasn't Kirk Cousins complaining publicly last year in the same whiny fashion about their bowl? This is something my 12 year old has already learned not to do. Poor sportsmanship from grown men. SMH.
November 4th, 2012 at 6:56 AM ^
I think that the one thing that Bell is forgetting here is that the refs probably have better than the 82nd best rushing offense in the FBS, and he should perhaps respect that as a running back. It takes a lot of denial to be blind to the team's flaws and to maintain same attitude of "I win or it's unfair" that many of us had when we were, oh, four or five.

Wow that's a terrible call
It just feels like those always goes against MSU. Reminds me of personal fouls against us for hitting Denard last season & Braxton this season – while they were inbounds and tiptoeing down the sideline. They’re legit, real football ays, and for as much football as I watch, those seem to only go against MSU.

When your team is repeatedly caught on tape engaging in dirty conduct (like jumping on top of a prone player and twisting his facemask) and your coach shows no remorse, and when your DC brags about how his gameplan involves "60 minutes of unnecessary roughness" . . . eventually it will catch up to you. MSU has a reputation now as a dirty team. Referees are starting to flag them for more borderline things now. MSU players are going to have to tread a more careful line from here on out.
November 4th, 2012 at 1:45 AM ^
Just showed why you go for it on 4 and 2 in the EXACT same situation MSU was in earlier. Huge upset over Boise State

I understand not being able to root for Ohio under any circumstances, but I was cheering hard for MSU yesterday. Still bitter that Nebraska's best chance for a second conference loss went by the wayside as a result of stupid Sparty mistakes. Of course, I'm more upset that we didn't just beat Nebraska in the first place. Had we done that, we would be in position to sew up the division next Saturday.
