Sparty gone Spart.
to play football, not to play trumpet
Sparty gone Spart.
I had to update it twice today. Once for the game, then again for the postgame tweeting.
In fairness, Bell was far from the only Spartan to make an ass of himself on Twitter. Someone on the RCMB found that about 10-15 players had tweeted angry thoughts.
I'll cut the other guys some slack for blaming the Nebraska loss on the refs in the heat of the moment. Not the best attitude, but understandable. But blaming four losses on the refs? That's worthy of special disdain.
MSU has also won some close games this season - Boise St., Indiana and Wisconsin. Even their game against EMU was up for grabs going into the fourth quarter. Is Bell going to give a special shout out to the refs for those games?
That is fantastic.
Johnny Adams is a pretty princess.
Somewhere, 98% of European futbol players are shaking their heads (while the other 2% fell to the turf and writhed in pain from the impact of the shake).
Simply fantastic. 60 minutes of unnecessary prancing.
It seems to be getting national attention in a Yahoo! Sports feature:
Both have beaten you this year. So, there's that.
Dont want to defend Narduzzi, but he basically was asked to compare Martinez to Denard and Braxton. All he did was answer the question. Of course he was beinh a dick and was intentionally taking a shot at Michigan and Denard, but what do you expect from them?
Greg Mattison, or almost anyone else with a hint of integrity, would have answered that question with something like, "They're both great players in their own right."
Thats why i said he was being a dick...
Sparty gonna be Sparty. They always implode and always fold and THAT is why I chose MICHIGAN in my youth. GO BLUE!
Haters gonna hate.... That loss in October still must hurt.
Little brother, go blue
Does it really matter who's faster when both of them beat you?
I won't post the twitters from their players, but lets just say they think they aren't the reason they lost this game or any other for that matter. LeVeon Bell especially...
Why the hell is everyone making a big deal about Denard vs. Usain? It was an inoccuous statement said for fun yet everyone is treating it's like some big call-out challenge. I get Narduzzi bringing it up because he's obsessed, but Lolo Jones had to say something about it on Gameday too. Good lord.
People make a big deal about because they assume (not unreasonably) that all athletes are arrogant pricks. They just can't fathom a well known athlete could say something like that as a joke. They don't know that Denard is one of the nicest guys in sports so they just assume he actually believes this.
also made a statement in fun to the media.
State's still building their entire program around that one.
MT @L_Bell24 I expected the hate, but...we legit lost ONE game this year...and that was ND! The black & white team beat us 4 times”
He's the man
Seriously, does anyone in the Detroit media pay attention to this? These players are babies, jerks, undisciplined on the field, dirty, etc. The football players of the state's second largest university making asses of themselves on the regular is not a story?
I can't explain how embarassed I would be if Hoke allowed his players to say these things.
I believe MSU actually has a larger enrollment than UM.
He meant to say second best, although even that is debatable.
But Bell doesn't play for Wayne State or Kalamazoo College...
I am rather confused now.
It certainly is. moo u is not the second best school in the state. I will take CMU over sparty any day.
Come on. You could maybe make a case for Michigan Tech being the second-most prestigious school in the state . . . but CMU? I don't think so.
MSU is not the second best school in Michigan. Kalamazoo College, probably.
both of these tweets are saved for future debates...
Leveon Bell, Renaissance Man.
every time, I'd get about 2.6 yards past the line, then the stupid ref would just tackle me!!! :(
-Le'Veon Bell probably
SB Nation got them all before he deleted the tweets...
If we know Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio at all, we know he won't like his players publicly commenting like this, but this is the beauty of social media.
You don't know Dantonio at all. This twitter thing already happened this year. He already tried to put a stop to it. He can't because his players don't give a shit what he says.
That last Pass Interference call was pretty bad. BUT, like they always say: if you play poorly enough to put the game in the ref's hands, you deserve the outcome.
TWIS is going to be fun this week.
I'd give odds that TWIS features more UM fans whining about sparty losing than sparties.
When Denard was asked to comment on Narduzzi's statement all he said is, "where's the threat?"
I like how they always accuse us of making excuses and now that they're losing they say stupid stuff like theyshould be 8-1 and the refs have been against them all year, and they actually beat Michigan because they scored a touchdown when Michigan did not.
Sounds like some major butthurt. well... lil bro will be lil bro
Bell is an interesting guy.
Can someone explain to me how the refs cost MSU the OSU game, the Iowa game and the Michigan game?
They did pretty much cost MSU the OSU game. The Iowa and Michigan games were lost because of missed field goals, but the refs called a player down when he clearly wasn't during the OSU game. That was going to be a TD, and that happened at a pretty crucial point in the game.
It's a Big 10 conspiracy to deny Sparty their rightful place.
MSU sucks and always has. Therefore, the only logical explanation is that the conspiracy has been there from the beginning!
Not trying to make excuses, because we shouldnt have put ourselves in a position to let a ref decide those games
You already know about OSU, the fumble recovery
Iowa - Ref missed a leg whip on the touchdown run, that ref has since been downgraded because of that.
Michigan - i guess the players believe Denard's knee was down on the 3rd and short run, i didn't find any evidence to call it either way.
Nebraska and OSU are legitimate, but i honestly dont think the Iowa or Michigan thing would have mattered at all. Iowa would have probably gotten the TD the next play, and Michigan probably wouldve picked up a 4th and inches. Losing 4 games by a combined 10 points must be tough on a player though.
The sparty players take after Narduzzi. Kind of hard to blame 18 and 19 year olds when they have an assclown for a coach.
Narduzzi probably takes after Dantonio actually. If the leader of the program is being a douche all the time, everyone else is going to think it's ok to be a douche. Brady Hoke always acts like a professional and everything emanating from the program is professional
Best post of the thread.
Attention all DI athletic directors, this is what you might hire. Narduzzi could destroy your credibility and reputation. He isn't very accountable and likes to call out players who didn't even play against MSU.
Oh and so I get it in today, been awhile...seriously, who cares!! Ignore the pests!
I smell burning tires coming from EL.
I don't really think they even care enough to burn couches
Not when their students didn't show up for a night game against a top 20 opponent in conference.
"Is it basketball season yet?" - all MSU students not at the Neb game
Pat needs to just admit that his D had a bad game. He's basically trying to cover for himself by also taking a shot at us.
This is exhibit #43097 of why MSU is and always will be the little brother whether you want to officially call it that or not. Everything must involve Michigan someho
The refs are the reason you gave up a 4th and 10 on Nebraska's last drive...right.
Narduzzi is throwing softballs for Brian's TWIS.
I was gonna offer some props/ condolences for sparty but after reading what Narduzzi and Bell's tweet, I'll just say... GO BLUE !!!
Shut up Nucky. SCum sucks. Refs cost us the game. Etc. pretty much explains rcmb tonight. Sucks to be them.
He only says that about Martinez, cause Martinez rushed for over 200yds on their elite defense. Aka overrated defense.
All of them. Watch denard smoke everyone. Silence all these no nothing haters.
But this is why I didn't.
I bet all my MGoPoints Narduzzi is MSU's next head football coach.
I was going t try to refute you with reason about how athletic directors have a moral compass... Then I remembered the shit the MSU AD pulled with Trey Burke.
I have no case.
My god I hope so...
Do you know where I could watch that reply at? I tried YouTube and nothing. Hopefully someone makes a gif of it.
And what about the phantom PI call against Nebraska, or the personal foul that only happened because the MSU guy shoved Stafford into Maxwell long after the play had ended?
What about those penalties? Oh, right, they benefitted MSU so they don't matter.
1-4 in last 4 years, huh? Sparty math?
You guys won four straight on us. But those are the only wins you've had against us in the last 11 years. So we're 7-4 against you since 2002. I hope you enjoyed those four wins, becuase you're not going to get many more any time soon. Those days of Maize and Blue mediocrity are passing in the rear view mirror.
how "stop living in the past" only applies when it doesn't benefit you, because when I said 1-6 in the last 7 years to any Staeee fan in 2008, that's what they'd come back with.
Congrats on that, chump.
Don't feed the App troll.
You really came on a Michigan site to defend MSU? Do you also try running through walls and find the unicorn on the other side? MSU lost its leader and no one else has stepped up to show that team how to not quit and over come adversity.
I wish a reporter had followed up with, "But is he faster than Drew Dileo?"
MSU amuses me so much. Glad that Dantonio is their leader. Wouldn't be the same with an adult in charge. What a perfect match
I hate the whole, "you shouldn't have let the referees be in a position to cost you the game" argument (the object of a game is to beat the other team, not the other team and the officials), but I just have to say it always looks really bush league when players complain about officials like this.
You didn't want to lose that game, Mr. Bell? Rush for more yards, score more TD's, catch another pass, fire up your teammates more. You don't want to lose, Mr. Williamson? How about trying to hold their offense under 473 yards? How about making another tackle, or encourage your QB when he goes 9/27 for 4.3YPA.
The best part is, they always say when we lose that most of us blame the refs. Pot meet kettle, game set match, it's over. Your own player over twitter blamed 4 of your losses on the refs.
Vintage Sparty. Crucial personal foul penalty and they give up a big play on 4th down.
A Sparty win may have sent us to the Rose Bowl but to Hell with them. We are going somewhere warm to play an important game. Sparty is scrapping for the Pizza Bowl.
As a DC, Coach Narduzzi maybe (intentionally or not) missing the real point about the difference between Taylor Martinez and Denard Robinson as running QBs.
We all have seen that both are fast - really fast, but the one area which Taylor Martinez does excel is in his mesh ball fake. It was a huge part of why he was successful against MSU. His ball fake really pulled the DL, LBs and Safeties one or more gaps over which gave him the room to get to full speed. In a match race on a track, I think DR is faster, and because he is smaller and lighter, he would probably take Martinez in a 100 yards or 100 meters. But as a deceptive ball handler, Martinez is demonstrably better than most running QBs today.
He is 0-2 vs both this year. Shut up Narduzzi.
Here is the d-bag in action.
The Denard comment is at the end of the video.
BTW, Narduzzi has to be on something. The guy acts like a crack addict.
I think his comment on Denard is a bit overblown already but he certainly could have answered that a bit more...tactfully or professionally. He certainly seemed like he was trying to use the question to take a shot at Denard rather than just answering honestly that he felt Martinez was faster
And the part you mentioned about the tactfulness or profesionalism... that's why he's at msu. He has none. Nobody there has either of those traits and are lacking many many more than we even know.
He seemed very twitchy and high strung, like he was going to lose it at any moment, couldn't imagine a Michigan coach responding like that.
Sparty is so pathetic. Everything they do has to revolve around what Michigan does, and what Michigan is. They try so hard to not be looked on as a little brother, but they do it to themselves.
Whiny bitches who have to take shots t Michigan however they can get them. Have fun at the Pizza Bowl, Sparty.
2-4 lulz. I mean what kind of dipshit gang of assholes nicknames their stadium the woodshed. The reality of this team could not fit the cariacature of that university any better.
The nickname has at least been around since Bobby Williams. Why would you keep anything associated with Bobby Williams around?
The woodshed? More like the dollhouse.
Well they have a losing record at "The Woodshed"
That's why I couldn't root for Sparty today. I tried, but I just couldn't stomach the thought.
T- Magic has a better o line then Denard.
Switch the two, and DR's numbers shoot up.
Some of MSU's players took to Twitter tonight to blame the refs for the loss:
One of Bell's tweets claims MSU really only lost one game this season (ND), while the refs were to blame for the rest of the losses.
If I'm the head coach, I'm telling my whole team to stay off twitter as it pertains to games played. Just looks bad.
Exactly. Setting aside the debate as to whether coaches should have the power to keep their student-athletes off of twitter, I am not sure what good can possibly come of the players being on twitter. Once they are identified as student-athletes at a particular institution, they expose themselves to a third party finding a tweet, which can be amplified, twisted, or misrepresented well beyond what the player intended.
I know on the Rivals board some posters have said things to the effect of "well, Michigan players make poorly thought-out statements on twitter/facebook too." I have no doubt that is the case (my only exposure to twitter is when other people post about tweets), but just more evidence that twitter + 18-23-year old athletes who are not necessarily media-savvy = not good, not good at all.
Have our players tweeted things like this - disrespecting the refs and opposing teams? I don't remember reading any (and I imagine they'd have made the press if so). I get the sense that our players fear the repercussions from Hoke if they tweet more than MSU's (apparently) do from Dantonio.
...initials be any more appropriate?
LB? I don't get it.
Edit: Nevermind I assume you meant little brother.
Attitude reflects leadership
They had Nebraska down to one play and couldn't get it done well before the questionable Pass Interference call. Solve the problem don't make excuses.
Per Lolo Jones.
Is awesome that Sparty will be slipping back into mediocrity over the next few years. Couldn't happen to a nicer prick than Dantonio.
Not sure why people are so surprised by this. They had their shot at a Rose Bowl with Mich, OSU, Neb and PSU down and couldn't get it done. They're back to where they belong.
He did make reference to the PI call at the end of the game—which I think was a horseshit call in Nebraska's favor—but he also bent my ear for 15 minutes about all the fuckups the Spartans committed along the way which were much more costly to them overall. They shot themselves in the feet repeatedly, and paid the price.
I know I'm suppose to be really sad that MSU lost but i'm really not. For two reasons: One - they're MSU and love to see them lose - especially when they impload like they did today. And two I just finished watching the point machine called Oregon take apart USC. Not saying we would definitely lose to them but the thought of going to the Capital Bowl or something and playing a second tier SEC team like South Carolina instead of Oregon doesnt seem THAT bad to me.
I know, i know Rose Bowl or bust and all that but jesus tap dancing christ Oregon plays at whole different level than anybody outside of Alabama.
And the team there might be worse than the one in the Cap 1 Bowl.
According to the BCS computers they will. And I cannot even fathom how pissed off they would be in that scenerio. Seriously - outside of Alabama who in the SEC truly scares you? LSU? SC? Georgia? Texas A & M? I think we'd stand toe to toe with any of them.
Again - not saying i dont want to go to the Rose Bowl. Just saying that if we were to win out and NOT go it wouldnt be the worst thing in the world for us. I'd take 10-3 with a win at Columbus and a bowl game and call it a pretty successful season.
Lsu would probably stomp us ala Alabama, but none of the other teams scare me. Worst case scenario for this season is the cap one bowl against Florida/UGA/USC(ntusc) and I'm ok with that.
Of Alabama, LSU, Florida and Georgia only two are making BCS games. The third best among them will be in the Cap 1. Tonight's game keeps going how it is, and with games left to play, that could even be Bama again. I don't favor us in any of those match-ups. Second best PAC-12 tem likely to replace Oregon is Stanford or Oregon State. So yeah, I like those chances better.
Usc won't be in the rose bowl unless they win their conference. They are going to lose at least one more time to Oregon in the championship game. That will be their fourth loss.
And they might not even win their division at this point.
Agree that I like our chances against Oregon State and Stanford. Don't agree that we couldnt beat LSU, Florida or Georgia. And based on their remaining schedules if Alabama, Kansas State and Notre Dame all win out Oregon cannot pass them in the BCS computer rankings. So Oregon WILL be in the Rose Bowl if two of the aforementioned teams win out or if they lose a game.
Particularly compared to us I'm not sure how you can feel that way.
And they don't have to pass them in the computer rankings...just make it closer, because they're already ahead in the human component. (They only have to pick up 2/1000th of a point to catch ND).
But it's mostly moot. You're not going to have 4 undefeated teams in December.
Oregon will be in the championship game. An at large will be in the rosebowl. Most likely Oklahoma. I'm wondering if there's any chance ND goes to the rose bowl?
He did punt on 4th and 2 from the NU 40 with about 1:30 left.
As for whether he'd have done that against us, I don't know if he would have lined up and gone for it - but he'd have used that fake punt play for sure (if he hadn't already).
I think it was actually closer to 4th & 1.
The personal foul on Dennard's INT return was big. But seeing that punt sail into th end zone was when I knew for sure that State was going down.
MSU loves 3D pie charts.
Sounds a little like something a loser would say...
Actually, Bell spelled "legitimately" correctly, which I find impressive by MSU standards. Or maybe he has autocorrect...
IIRC, wasn't Kirk Cousins complaining publicly last year in the same whiny fashion about their bowl? This is something my 12 year old has already learned not to do. Poor sportsmanship from grown men. SMH.
I think that the one thing that Bell is forgetting here is that the refs probably have better than the 82nd best rushing offense in the FBS, and he should perhaps respect that as a running back. It takes a lot of denial to be blind to the team's flaws and to maintain same attitude of "I win or it's unfair" that many of us had when we were, oh, four or five.
D-bag - That is all
I interrupt my debate with M-Wolverine to present the following post from "The Only Colors" without comment
When your team is repeatedly caught on tape engaging in dirty conduct (like jumping on top of a prone player and twisting his facemask) and your coach shows no remorse, and when your DC brags about how his gameplan involves "60 minutes of unnecessary roughness" . . . eventually it will catch up to you. MSU has a reputation now as a dirty team. Referees are starting to flag them for more borderline things now. MSU players are going to have to tread a more careful line from here on out.
Just showed why you go for it on 4 and 2 in the EXACT same situation MSU was in earlier. Huge upset over Boise State
watching MSU lose and being bypassed by all bowls except for the pizza bowl! Have fun at the pizza bowl sparty!
Personally, I would rather MSU win and watch Michigan play in the Rose Bowl as a result. The other kind of logic is the same one that Mark D displayed when, had we beaten OSU in '07 (I think it was) his team would have played in a New Year's Day bowl. He said he'd never root for a Michigan win.
I understand not being able to root for Ohio under any circumstances, but I was cheering hard for MSU yesterday. Still bitter that Nebraska's best chance for a second conference loss went by the wayside as a result of stupid Sparty mistakes. Of course, I'm more upset that we didn't just beat Nebraska in the first place. Had we done that, we would be in position to sew up the division next Saturday.
Thats what happens when u root for MSU
They are hands down the dirtiest group of players ive ever seen in a game...truly taking on the personality of their coach!
people realize the danger that coaching staff is putting those players in. 3 or 4 times a game a kid gets up woozy from hitting someone and they're right back out there the next play or series.
There's hitting hard, being physical and playing tough football. Then there is playing reckless and being reckless with a kids well being.
2nd down and 2 at least 3 times in Nebraska territory during the game and couldn't make a first down.
Cleary the refs fault.
to commend LeVeon Bell on being the MVP of the 109th best offense in the country.
Where's the threat?
Where's all the disappointed D'Antonio gifs?
OK, I know we came a dropped pass or a missed fg away from losing to them for the 5th straight time...but did anyone else look at their 5 thousand empty seats (for Nebraska for gosh sakes!) despite of 10 thousand Husker fans there, then look at the standings to see them 2 - 4 in conference and 5 - 5 overall, and think the order of the universe had been restored? How do you spin that to visiting recruits?!?
