No Regents Meeting Today

Submitted by michchi85 on

The regents never met, and the President didn't even end up having a meeting this morning.  Looks like we will be waiting on this one for awhile.

Just clearing up a rumor: There isn't a #UMICH regents meeting today. Never was one.

No regents, & U-M spokesman Rick Fitzgerald said Schlissel wasn't there either, @mikeproppe. Just talked to Rick again. No regents mtg 2day.

Good point...Lets vote them out stricktly on how they handle the athletic department. God knows that they don't actually play a major role tackeling real issues regarding the academic integrity/reach of the University.

And bc they aren't having a public meeting, lets also assume that they never meet based on little to no information bc we are unhappy. We sure know that they never held clandestine meetings in the past, say in  regards to chosing our current president. /s

yeah, as much as I am fired up about this situation, I care a little bit more about the academic side of the university. I am pretty happy with the performance of the board from an academic point of view. Sure there are issues I would like to see cleaned when it comes to administration pay and employment protections. However, that is for another discussion at another time.

We hoped much yet expected less.

But we wil not settle for nothing.

Everyone - back to the keyboards!  Flood the Regent's inboxes with emails of dissapproval!

Throw in a few enhancement links just for fun.

EDIT:

This was supposed to be tongue in cheek.  I guess it sounded better in my head

It was Mark Schlissel's communications meeting for the President and his staff at which the concussion issue was supposed to be raised. It's not clear whether Regents were supposed to be invited to the meeting.

What about this - from the earlier mlive article?  Why wouldn't anyone ask Fitzgerald about this comment?  I'm sick of crappy journalism.  Ask the fucking questions, people.

University spokesman Rick Fitzgerald said Schlissel would be involved in a communications meeting Tuesday morning, and that the handling of the Morris situation will be discussed.

"I don't have anything from the president to share at this point," Fitzgerald said Tuesday morning.

"We're going to be checking in later this morning. We're going to be talking about the situation. It's just a communications meeting at this point, but we'll probably have something toshare after that."

Keep in mind that this particular Board of Regents has almost ZERO actual discussion of important topics in public due to the Open Meetings Act. They talk to each other over the phone about big decisions so as to keep their discussions private and avoid a formal meeting. It's entirely possible they're currently discussing their options, just that they're doing so informally.

Regent 1:  "Hey guys, are we still meeting today at 1pm?"

Regent 2:  "Why?  Didn't we all vote over email that Brandon is done?"

President:  "No meeting, voting was unanimous.  Want to grab lunch instead?"

Regent 1:  "I'm in... but not driving (Vickie has the car today for work)"

Regent 2:  "I'll drive... but no Chinese.  Driver's choice."

I don't think the could have held the meeting today anyway.  The Open Meetings Act requires 18 hours notice for a Special Session.  Less for an Emergency, but this is not an Emergency under the law.
