No QB flip-flop. Denard in sync. 45 points

Submitted by ggoodness56 on

I think after finally letting Denard take every snap...all of our questions got answered pretty quick.

Denard had great flow in moving the ball.

Long sustained drives.

Great 3rd down conversion rate.

Great redzone offense.

Passing looked crisp.

Everything was well balanced.

Let the scientist Borges, quit the experimentation.

over 8 plays long. Three long scoring drives around 80 yards. I wasn't trying to be a dick to Borges at all. I actually really enjoy his playcalling. I also love Gardner and look forward to the days when he starts for us.

But even you guys heard the announcers say, other coaches love when Michigan takes Denard off the field. He is a dynamic player and has earned the right to be in at QB on every single play. It just seemed to me like things ran smoother today. Go Blue!

I think you can put this win a lot more on the defense and special teams more than on no QB substitutions

I do really think Denard is getting more comfortable, throughout the year, Denard has refused to scramble to a fault (understandable in a more pass-oriented offense), he did some of that today, but a couple of times, he also saw a lane and scrambled and ensured positive yards on pass plays where he didn't see anyone open

Any qb would be comfortable in the pocket one week after playing Illinois. They got some serious pressure on him last week, Nebraskas front4 was missing a big piece and Denard looked great reading hte routes today. His stance was good, his mechanics were better, and his throws were better. Looks like the offense is catching up to the defense in a hurry. Toussaint had some really impressive runs too. His cutbacks and the lanes he took were great. Mix of good skill and good decision making, almost like he's been the starter for a few years now.

Lest we not forget Nebraska had 12 turnovers.  When you keep getting the ball back its hard not to have 45 pts

ran decisively in the 2nd half. No hesitation and he tucked and ran on several busted pass plays. That to me was his biggest improvement.

As for the 3 NU turnovers, all were fumbles caused by hats on the ball or an arm swat to the ball in the ball carriers hand. These things are coached and drilled into the players from an excellent coaching staff.

Think what Mattison and the D will be when they have several years together...

Was a great change!  Denard seemed a little more relaxed in there.  I wouldn't say comfortable.

I like when he plays from the shot-gun set.  It's best for his mobility.  I understand they can't line-up like that every play, but I say he's more of a threat from that set.

OHIO is going down next week!  I can't wait!

Go Blue!

Very solid performance, and it was refreshing to see him scramble for once. But there were a few times he suddenly suffered Micheal Shaw BOUNCEBOUNCEBOUNCE syndrome when cutting up would have given him 5-10 yards or more. Most notably, the last drive before the half, he had the 5 yards for a first down in front of him (and prolly could have gotten much more than that), but he tried to bounce outside a Nebraska defender and got tackled for minimal gain. I don't know if he was thinking "I need to get out of bounds", but I'd like him to still have the awareness there to cut up. He still seems to dance too much sometimes.

But hey, there was a ton I liked out of him today. That Odoms TD pass was perfect, bloody perfect. And he was mostly effective with his legs. And made several key passes, especially on 3rd down. I hope we see more of this next week!

Looking at the highlights again, I think that first td pass was almost as good as the second one. He stopped his rollout right in front of a guy bearing down on him hard and threw a strike to a laterally moving receiver with very little cushion.  Great composure and awesome performance by DRob on the day.

I think you have your cause and effect backwards. Everything was running well, so there was no need to swap QBs. Early in the season, they did it to see if they could get both on the field at the same time. Later in the season, it was for a change of pace. There was no need for a change of pace today, so they kept everything the same.

that calls out the students for not filling the student section today. Not even close, I would say depending on what part, the last 6-12 rows were open throughout the game. You guys can't show up @ 12 30 for a battle between two 8 win teams? Here come the excuses...

He had a few pretty bad decisions passing the ball and the Shawification continues giving him 3.6 YPC, and I'm not sure that he is actually making any zone option reads.  But right now, it seems like Borges and Denard actually seem to have found some common ground.

He absolutely deserves credit for his persistance and effort, and I look forward to more.
