No Michigan depth chart for Utah (updated)

So much Harbaugh:

Breaking news from UM ---- Utah game notes are out and......NO depth chart!!!!!

— angelique (@chengelis) August 27, 2015

Similar stuff happened at his previous stops, like at the beginning of the 49ers 2013 season:

Are we going to see a lot of ‘or's' on the depth chart?

"The depth chart is not a painstaking thing that I go fill out. That's, [director of public relations] Bob Lange fills out the depth chart. So I wouldn't read, nothing against Bob, it's not. Understand I wouldn't read too much into it. It's not a painstaking process to fill out the depth chart."

UPDATE: Depth chart will be released Monday, when Utah releases theirs:

Harbaugh says Utah will be sending official depth chart Monday, we will send our official depth chart on Monday

How shocking. Almost like not holding any press conferences during fall camp, not allowing the coordinators to comment on anything specific and claiming every job is still up for grabs. Based on that, why would you expect anything else?

We return to yesteryear when you discover all you need to know when you need to know it. In other words, moments before kickoff.

I think Jim Harbaugh's approach is all based on growing up in Fort Schembechler.

I can just imagine the questioning at today's game week presser:

Media: You've chosen not to release a depth chart to start the season. Can you project who the starters are on both sides of the ball?

Harbaugh: Actually, I don't have that list in front of me. And because we are still nailing down positions with ongoing competition, we haven't settled on our projected starters.

Media: But is there a time when you will release this information? Well, yes, when it goes to the printer.

If Harbaugh didn't have PR requirements, I think he would be fully satisfied to keep the program's entire status in the dark, except when it suits him to make something public.

I don't know if it'll be Bunting but I'll be a few folks who contribute who Utah won't expect. I am somewhat nervous about the prospect of playing away and at elevation. But over the last few days I've also become pretty hopeful after realizing that the element of surprise is really on our side. Not only in this roster mystery, but Utahs never seen Harbaugh coach with this roster, never seen our QB in our system, barely seen a healthy Peppers, never seen Bunting or Harris play, etc.

It's enough to notice. I'd be surprised if Harbaugh isn't doing things to prepare the guys. When I was on sea level teams traveling to elevation, we'd breath through straws in our mouths during conditioning for 2 weeks prior to traveling.

Unless there's some type of rule requiring a depth chart or injury updates, I totally agree with no releasing anything. Why give more information to the opponent?

I know the media won't like it because it makes their jobs tougher, but in the case of Harbaugh, he already provides TONS of content for potential stories. If you ask a journalist if they'd rather cover Michigan and Harbaugh with no depth chart or, say, Purdue with a depth chart, I guarantee you the former is the much better source of content. If Harbaugh were a boring beat then I could see the complaints. But on balance this is still a dream assignment for college football sports writers.

chart, it will become apparent through play. Utah needs no edge, not even the slightest (thanks Popular Mechanics), as they are a very good team, at home, looking to spoil this team's debut. Silent submarine approaching the mountains, interesting thought.

Bars 281 --> 290 (after the dude was incapable of gaining weight)

Bolden 232 --> 237

Braden 331 --> 322

Charlton  273 --> 285

Mason Cole 287 -->305

Gedeon 241 --> 248

Dawson 309 --> 316

Delano Hill 204 --> 212

RJS 240 --> 245

Kalis 292 --> 305

Magnuson 296 --> 305

So, based on that - which is not at all shocking - I do get the sense that the depth chart may not really be the depth chart much at all this year, which is fine and especially so against our first opponent so no one gets an advance idea of what they plan to roll out there. I was assuming that, after all this time in the submarine, that we would simply end up being pleasantly surprised anyway, and it sounds like that's the case now.

Previous thread that coaches exchange film and depth chart info during game week at all levels. It's a gamesmanship type of gesture that coaches practice at all levels. I coached Middle school kids and coaches would request film and depth chart info during game week in exchange for theirs.
