No Laces Day Feedback

Submitted by Purkinje on

So then. I started the Facebook group "Don't Tie Your Shoes Like Denard Robinson Day" late Saturday night, and over 7,000 people apparently agreed that it was a good idea. I think it would be good to organize this again, but maybe it would be better to do it on the Friday before big games? What think you, MGoFaithful? It would be a good way to build the hype the day / night before.

EDIT: Based on the success of today, I went ahead and created one for Friday, October 1st (the day before Indiana, the first Big Ten game.) If you think it's a good idea, here you go: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=108443599214888  If not, carry on.

It was great.

In fact so great Little Brother decided to mimic us. Silly Spartans, don't they know that mimicry is the greatest form of flattery? Always trying to be like us...

I tried going all through today without my laces tied.  I made it about 2 minutes.  Too uncomfortable, and working in a warehouse, kind of dangerous.

Denard is a trooper for pulling this off.

Working in an engineering office, my boss told me that my untied shoes was "very unprofessional" but I didn't care.  Rocked the untied shoes all day.  Other co-workers loved it especially when they got the full scoop.  Anything I can do to represent the Leaders and the Best...

Hell, I'm doing the whole week after a win. Especially after a win of this magnitude. Since I walk around with my shoes barely tied (leave'em loose and tie the smallest bow possible), this is not a problem for me.

Walked all about my very non-football campus with untied shoes today.  I got to explain the matter to a lot of confused folks, but they all seemed pretty amused with the story, which I launched into at the slightest provocation.

Until I played racquetball (I didn't want to die, so yea). I also agree with the above sentiment: it was great, but likely a one-and-done deal. Loved it this time though!

Oh, and I saw about 5 people today participating, but sadly, none of my genetics students did it (needless to say, they're failing now).

... consisted of untieing roughly 50% of the men's athletic shoes at a Kohl's in Seattle, while waiting for my wife and mother-in-law to finish shopping for women's clothing.   I had to stop at 50% when caught by my father-in-law, who doesn't speak a lick of English.  Try explaining that to a 55 year old Moldovian man who already thinks you're a little weird.

So, yeah, you've got the pacific northwest's support.

apparently the event has gotten national recognition...

per an article in the USA Today:

"Distractions exist, though, including from a group of students who created "Shoes Untied in Honor of Denard Robinson Day," on Monday. He played in high school with his laces untied, keeping his shoes tight with Velcro."

I work from home in Columbus, but made a trip to Meijer and mentally dared everyone there to inform me that my shoes were untied, with the intention of thanking them for noticing.  No such luck - yet...

To do it again before Indiana waters down its meaning. Having a "Shoelace day" before MSU admits to more of a rivalry there than I am comfortable with. I say wait for OSU.

i am sure most of my kids do not know about DRob (i am a k - 5 PE teacher).  however, as i was facilitating our districts jump rope test today many of my kids had thier shoelaces untied (which is definitely like most any other day).  which was quiet funny to me as each time i saw shoelaces untied i thought of DRob and the state of M football!  GO BLUE!
