No Increase in 2014 Football Season Ticket Prices

Michigan Athletics sent out an email today regarding the PSD re-calculation date (i.e., tomorrow, which would dictate priority for post-season football tickets and basketbal B1G tournament tickets) and also included a (not-so-surprising) note stating that the prices for the 2014 Football Season Tickets will not be increased.

"No increase in Football season ticket prices for the 2014 season "

At least DB is aware that he can't get more money for tickets next year.  The only question that remains is whether they will "decrease" ticket prices for next season??

Finally a smart move

Given the rancid nature of next year's home schedule, those prices BETTER not increase. Brandon's trying to avoid getting trident-murdered by the mob.

I think there's no way they

I think there's no way they decrease season ticket prices, although it will be interesting to see what they do with face value/public ticket prices, and dynamic pricing.

They usually designate 2 or 3 games as "premium games" and charge $20 more per ticket face valuae for those games.  I can't imagine any games next year are "premium games."

Similarly, if they let market demand dictate "dynamic" pricing, I don't see any games going above public face value.

I had the same reaction

No thanks, DB, I'll go ahead and use Stubhub to buy my tickets ... rather than using Stubhub to sell my tickets at a 50% discount for games I can't attend.

Yup. Same.

I'm not buying next year. Have had alum season tickets 7 years in a row (after 7 undergrad/grad season tickets), but this has gotten absurd.

Well seeing as two of those

Well seeing as two of those games are conference games and the other is/was a rivalry series DB had no control over this.

I don't know why people shit

I don't know why people shit on DB for games @MSU and @OSU (along with @ND next year for that matter).  I'd imagine he has no control over the Big Ten conference scheduling, which stuck us on a bad year because of our already existing series with ND which happened to be away in 2014 which was scheduled long before DBs time.

Well . . . I'm noticing that

Well . . .

I'm noticing that we played IU and Minny at home this year, and play them both again at home next year.  I'm not sure, I guess, what you mean by doubled up if not that?  Everyone had this happen due to realignment.

Based on the letter I

Based on the letter I received yesterday the PSD price appears to have increased to the tune of around $75 per seat (Jack Roth 400 level). Anyone else notice an increase?

what are the marquee games next year?  MSU is on the road again, and I think OSU is on the road.  Hell even the ND game is in south bend.

I think Utah may be a good

I think Utah may be a good game and Penn State should be pretty good (their fans travel well).

Other than that, it will be Maryland's inaugural game in the Big House and the return of App State (I refuse to go to that game; hearing that team's name makes me sick to my stomach).

I think Dynamic Pricing means

I think Dynamic Pricing means they will try to match the market so that should mean that they will lower ticket prices to match Stubhub.  I am looking for the check to reimburse me for the Akron and Nebraska games that were very way cheaper on the open market.

Except the official policy for dynamic pricing states that they will never undercut the prices that season ticket holders pay.

But what do season ticket holders pay?

I know that's the stated policy, but I'm not sure I know exactly what season ticket holders pay per game, and I'm a long time season ticket holder.  There is a face value price listed on all the tickets ($75 or $95 for this past year, I believe).  But, when I buy my tickets in April I pay something less than the sum of the face values.  But, I also pay a PSD - a PSD that is not consistent throughout the stadium (and aren't some people still grandfathered in at $0 PSD in the endzones?).

So what is the minimum price with dynamic pricing -  the listed face value or something else?

Season ticket holders pay $65

Season ticket holders pay $65 per ticket.

PSD is a donation so that doesn't get counted as part of the season ticket price.

Therefore, to answer your question, the floor for dynamic pricing is $65 per ticket.

end zone PSD

Is $75. DB jacked everyone, even those who thought they were grandfathered in.

Not surprising

But look for a nice big price hike for 2015. With the feast/famine schedule as it is currently set up I wouldn't be surprised to see price increases and freezes in a 2 year cycle.

Students

If you think students coming out to the games this year was bad, just wait until next year. I'll (hopefully) be grad student next fall and about 70% of the people I've talked to have said they won't buy tickets next year unless the prices go down. Even if they do go down, it's going to have to substantial, especially with the negative attitude toward the athletic department on campus (I know, beating a dead horse). The prices for tickets in the secondary student market this year were ridiculous. I could have bought single tickets to every game from people and paid less than half of what I paid for season tickets.

Although technically correct....

I am still getting an increase of $38.50 per seat per season ticket.

I had endzone seating that predated the implementation of the PSD requirement.   Bill Martin made a decision to allow those who wanted to remain in the end zone to be exempt from the PSD.

Then, last season, Brandon decided to up everyone's mandatory "donation" including the endzone seating.  To make it "easier" though, it was half of the increase last season with the full increase being this season.  End zone PSD is $75 per seat.

Expect an increase of some form in 2015.  There is no way that Brandon doesn't take advantage of a decent home schedule to try to squeeze more out of the fans.

when can I shop

the "clearance aisle" for 2014 season tickets? Should be a huge oversupply to get rid of.

They should reduce them,

They should reduce them, given the schedule (and the bad taste this season is leaving in people's mouths).  We just got $100M from Stephen Ross, so we can get by with slightly reduced ticket revenue next year.

The Ath Dept

Can do whatever it pleases with the ticket prices, reminder they hold all the cards.

How far they want to push that envelope is an interesting thing as far how the revenue maximization game is played (just objectively thinking about the problem and not taking a bias or side)

I think the Ath Dept sells thru Stub Hub because they get a lot of valuable data in return regarding price trends, etc, baseball-style-statistics more or less...e.g. "how far did the price drop when an ominous cloud blocked the sun after 4pm"

The fact that we went from 105701 (or was it 107501, sorry I forgot) to regularly exceeding 110k says that the bloodletting isn't done yet.
