Per @GaryDolphin, no George Kittle & no Greg Mabin tonight for Iowa. Oh boy.

Good to know, but this doesn't really change anything.
November 12th, 2016 at 5:23 PM ^
I think it really hampers their already sputtering offense and 100% makes their defensive secondary one sided (not that it really wasn't already).

Michigan is silly deep right now but Iowa is not and is 5-4. Think back to the Richrod or Hoke era teams that were razor thin and imagine how you'd feel if we had the #3 team coming to town and we were down a starting CB and our star TE.
November 12th, 2016 at 6:46 PM ^
Never forget.

Wasn't going to be pretty to begin with, but oh brother
November 12th, 2016 at 5:28 PM ^
Neither is huge.
Kittle is really good when healthy, but he's been playing on 1 leg for a while.
Mabin was thought of highly at the start of the year, but he hasn't been very good this year.
November 12th, 2016 at 5:30 PM ^
Yeah but if they're bad, then their backups must suck more.
November 12th, 2016 at 8:04 PM ^
Naaaaa. Just kidding.
November 12th, 2016 at 5:29 PM ^
They are going to get torched and have no passing yards.
November 12th, 2016 at 6:07 PM ^
I'm envisioning pepcat runs to the non-king side with chesson or darboh holding the edge. get hill and asiasi or even crawford in front of those LBs. Could be a big night for the pepcat package.
November 12th, 2016 at 6:49 PM ^
It does mean that Ferentz will ask Greg Davis to pare this down to a 2 TE set rather than the normal 3 TE set that he likes, or so it seems, and it will cut down on Beathard's options severely. More importantly, who will Greg Davis get Beathard to throw to on that 3rd and 5 quick out to the bench that never works because it is always caught out of bounds?
November 12th, 2016 at 7:43 PM ^
Down to 2 TEs? Only one way for Iowa to respond: tackle eligible.
November 12th, 2016 at 5:29 PM ^
Their RT Cole Croston is also out. Not sure why this guy didn't include that since the Dolphin mentions it.

Everyone's so sure of a blowout win tonight. Playing in Iowa Ciy at night always makes me nervous. Hope everyone else is proven right.
November 12th, 2016 at 5:34 PM ^
I was convinced we would beat Sparty down by forty or so, and was shocked at the final (even though it wasn't quite that close). Now we're going on the road at night, and despite the level of competition being similar to MSU, I'm not quite as cocky. Hopefully we win by the spread (ish)...I'll be satisfied with that.
November 12th, 2016 at 5:47 PM ^
Call me a Debbie Downer but I am very nervous. This has all the ingredients for an upset. Watching Clemson struggle confirms anything can and will happen. Maybe I've been a Michigan fan too long.

Tonight will show us how much Michigan wants to to be in the national title conversation.
On paper, Michigan should annihilate Iowa. But that's not traditionally how the game works. Intangibles matter as much as tangibles.
I believe Iowa is going to make Michigan earn this win tonight.

Intangibles don't matter as much as tangibles. lmao. They matter, not that much
November 12th, 2016 at 6:04 PM ^
regardless of how much they matter, I refuse to believe that ferentz can motivate his boys better than HARBAUGH can.
November 12th, 2016 at 7:24 PM ^
Agreed.
November 12th, 2016 at 7:21 PM ^
but Clemson just isn't that good. They've now struggled with Troy, Georgia Tech, NC State, and Pitt. This isn't 2015 for Clemson
November 12th, 2016 at 6:06 PM ^
I wasn't shocked. I told everybody the MSU game wouldn't be a walk over and was informed that my 50 years of watching the two teams play was irrelevant. That Michigan would win by 30, 40 or more.
Now I'm telling anyone who cares to listen that the Iowa team everybody else has watched is not the team we're going to see. Iowa will break every tendency they've shown because they ALWAYS do that against us (or at least they have for the past 50 years). And once again I'm stupid and have NO idea how awesome we are and that Iowa is going to get killed.
We're gonna win but it's not gonna be easy and don't be surprised if it's a one score margin late in the 4th.
Watch and see.
November 12th, 2016 at 6:08 PM ^
My friends and I have a theory that Harbaugh let off the gas intentionally late in the MSU game to minimize the "disrespekt." I think he's crafty enough to do that because he knows blowing them out by 30+ would really fuel them up for next year.
November 12th, 2016 at 6:10 PM ^
I tend to agree with you, but man I hope not. I have a feeling that this coach is not the coaches of the last 50 years, and I hope that counts for something. Plus this is the first game the stepkids are watching with me (on tv...I don't normally get to watch), so I would love for them to impress a la our penn state game.
November 12th, 2016 at 6:51 PM ^
MGrowOld is right. Iowa is a different team when we play there, especially for a night game.
They will be inspired and this game will be a fight. We won't win just by showing up, we'll have to earn it.
This is a good test for us.
November 12th, 2016 at 7:13 PM ^
I don't know mGrowOld. The State game was dangerously close to being an all out blowout. Some teams you don't run up the score on because they are a bunch of cheap and dirty basterads on the football field when they are getting killed. That game was always under control. I guess we'll wait and see with your prediction on the Hawkeyes. You are right about them giving their best game against Michigan but one score margin in the 4th quarter? LMAO! The sun does shine on a dogs ass every once in awhile but I don't think you'll have that luck tonight!

November 12th, 2016 at 5:45 PM ^
What positions do they play?
November 12th, 2016 at 5:58 PM ^
Tight end and corner. It says in the original post

TE and CB, though Kittle has essentially been just a blocker recently and Mabin is...not King.
November 12th, 2016 at 6:03 PM ^
So their third corner who now has to start for Mabin is going to have to cover Chesson or Darboh. Hope we take advantage of this

November 12th, 2016 at 6:01 PM ^
Kittle has been playing injured. it's not horribly surprising. not sure about Mabin.
November 12th, 2016 at 5:47 PM ^
They will be pumped. We need stop that right away.
November 12th, 2016 at 5:54 PM ^
Hope this changes nothing for the team's mentality, and with Harbaugh, I know it won't. That said, Iowa will come in tonight ready to play. We've got to match their intensity and start fast. Break their spirits quickly.
This is still going to be a tough game tonight. Iowa will be foaming at the mouth to ruin our season.

Basically throw opposite of Desmond King all day. If he's covering Darboh, I expect Chesson and Butt to go off tonight.

who do they even line him up against? chesson had a nice game last week...still stick with darboh? or just whoever is on the outside?
November 12th, 2016 at 6:04 PM ^
Haha, just replied to one of your other posts. Either way, the other WR is going to have a huge impact on the game. I also think Butt will have a good day against their LBs who aren't good in coverage

I've replied enough in this thread, it's not hard. lol. but yeah, even more than butt though, the other TE's could really get involved. great night for that 5 TE train idea..
