The boys are up north in Marquette. Can't find any video, so here's my options. Here's to Hunwick!
Live Blog: link
I love Michigan but I go to school up here at NMU. So whatever happens, its a win win situation!
Similar situation here. I grew up in Marquette and went to tons of NMU games, but went to school at U-M. I'm always torn when these two play.
I thought I was the only one (not the only Michigan fan, but the only MGoBlogger) up here. Slightly weird.
Though I will say that the only time I root against Michigan is when they play NMU in hockey...
Same situation here grew up in the U.P. and did my undergraduate at NMU.
woah wonder what I did to get -966 points lol
brother just texted me who is at the game (nmu student, not a michigan fan), said michigan hockey team reminds him of msu football team...pushing northern around with a few cheap shots
Hunwick just got ejected. Let's go Janecyk!!!!!
EDIT: Radio announcers seemed shocked that Shawn got tossed. Red was not so happy about it either.
And Janecyk just made a great save by the sounds of it!
Had to sign on to say, WTF?!?! You can run our goalie and get him thrown out???
no sir..the cheap blocker punch was what got him tossed.
Ive seen some bad calls from CCHA refs but never anything as bad than that one.
Northern MIchigan goes ahead on a PP goal
I'd love to be able to see what happened, but it trust when al randall says something is complete horseshit.
he completely socked him, clear as day tho.
Tie game! WOOOOO!
And Lindsay Sparks ties it back up after scoring right out of the penalty box!!!
3 goals in 14 sec?
Now it's turning into a shootout...although both Northern goals didn't sound like Janecyk's fault. 2-1 Wildcats
I'm at game on goal line at the Berry. Will say more after game but hunwick acted stupidly with a cheapshot. Will say more later, sick break away goal!!
Fuuuuuucccc, followed by yesssssss, only to be followed again by fuuuuuucccccc
B1G hockey can do is bring CCHA officals with them. These guy suck.
Radio announcers are not happy with how the game is being officiating. They think Northern is being cheap and getting away with it. Obviously I have no idea if true.
But from the sounds of it, the referees want this to turn into the Miami game a few years ago all over again.
They are calling this one-sided all the way, and its why I can't stand the CCHA. Northern has been taking cheap shots all night and they eject our GOALTENDER. These guys are just as big of clowns as always, and this is why I can't wait for B1G hockey. Probably only going to get worse since the Big Ten "started" the realignment and now they're going to lose their side jobs in a couple years.
Inexcusable officiating. They've lost control of the game, and the NMU players are laughing on the ice (literally), probably because they know the refs have given them a blank check to do whatever they want.
What a motherfucking joke. Every time Michigan goes up to this shithole arena, the refs always make terrible calls. Coincidence? I can't wait until the B1G hockey conference comes, so these small school programs can rot.
I like the Berry...
That building feels like a bingo hall.
IIRC, Northern Michigan got real cheap during the CCHA Championships Game when we beat them two seasons ago. Just remember them taking cheap shots at the end of the game, ones that could seriously injure a player.
EDIT: 3-1 Wildcats and they're on another PP
I remember that game well. Got what they deserved in the end though.
My experience with Northern fans is that they are the MSU of the UP. Maybe that's my MTU connections and the school colors talking (Plus Mel), but my experiences backs it up and so do the school rankings.
I believe it. Especially after this game!
NMU is nothing like State. State fans are assholes that care more about what other programs are doing than their own..NMU cheers for their team and that's all. I wore a Michigan sweatshirt and hat and didn't hear a word about it. Would that happen at State?
They get a goal and a PP just for kicks. Unbelievable.
Hope they enjoy jobbing us on the road, because if they repeat this calling at Yost I'm not sure they'll make it out of the building alive.
This is unwatchable.
northern scores and oh, surprise ANOTHER FUCKING PENALTY CALL BY THE REFS.
These refs better enjoy doing this while they still can, because they'll all be on food stamps when the league dissolves in 2013.
ANOTHER FUCKING PENALTY.....
So getting all pissed off isn't really the way to go...
ferris state beats miami 4-2.
ohio beats state 5-2.
GOAAAAAAALLLLLLL! 2-3 now
Meeeechigan comin' back!
3-2 with less than 10 to go in the third. If we get a point out of this game, I'd say it's a success.
and brought the rough (can't use other word) tactics . Refs are very misinformed.
This requires an investigation.
TIE GAME!!!!!!! 3:46 to go!!
"Get the fuck off my ice"
Well, that stinks. Hopefully we can get another goal here quick
Trying to follow on here but hard to tell what's going on. Doesn't sound good though.
That does it. Could have been a lot different with Hunwick in goal.
Damn. Well, at least the Wings have their PP mojo tonight, 3 PP goals, 5-2.
5-3 final. Sucks that refs had such a big role in this game, always does when that happens. Hopefully we come out strong tomorrow night.
Maybe that stuff flies up there, since they play in a bingo hall. But I tell ya, those HACK refs do a job like that in Ann Arbor, They'll have a hard time leaving...
You obviously know nothing about Marquette, so keep it to yourself. The Berry is gorgeous, let me know if you'd ever like a tour of one of the most beautiful towns you will see.
Marquette is seriously one of the most beautiful towns I've ever been in, let alone lived it. The Berry is also a really nice arena, and (history aside) it's a nicer building (IMO) than Yost.
I'll stick to Yost. All of those NCAA and CCHA banners look pretty nice not to mention the BEAUTIFUL new scoreboard.
I've been to northern before (last years series). It just felt like a bingo hall to me. Sorry..
Obviously the banners are great, as well as the brand new scoreboard yahhhh, but I tend to agree the actual building itself, the berry is verrry nice.
Trolling? just defending Marquette whatever. We're all on the same side here.
The puckheads slapped me with a "trolling" tag too. All I said was "most of the penalties were justified, getting mad isn't the way to go".
As a group Michigan fans sure have rage issues when it comes to losing (myself included).
There goes our #1 ranking
Moffatt is suspended for tomorrow's game for fighting, but a Northern player is out for that as well.
Alright to set the story straight, I, sitting in my Michigan gear, was on Michigan's goal line for the 2nd period and the fight, then moved down so I was on our goal line again in the 3rd. There was an NMU rush, a UM player pushed the NMU player into the crease, he fell into Hunwick's legs. Hunwick then sort of did a McTwist down onto the ice while fights broke out all over. Hunwick got up, the NMU player got up. All was over in the crease. Then, as the NMU player was about to turn around, Hunwick hit him with a cheap Blocker upper cut to the chin, under his facemask, sending the guy to the ice. Hunwick then proceeded to chirp NMU's arena staff for trying to get the net back on, and "jerking off" with his snagger at fans after it was all settled down. I have never been quieter at any Michigan sporting event. It was embarassing to see our star goaltender act that way. He is obviously a huge component to our team, so why do such stupid shit?? The refs got that right 100% by tossing him. Now onto the "bias" of the refs. The game was chippy from the beginning and they were consistent the entire game, they were not unfair. Michigan flat out lost this game, probably would not have happened if their goalie didn't cheapshot an NMU player. The refs had no part in the end result, I guarantee you. Go Blue tomorrow night, hopefully they can stay composed!
I would have posted my take (very similar to yours) but I'm sure no one would have believed me (and also for sticking up for Marquette, my adopted home).
Are you going to the game tomorrow night? Did you come up for the game(s), or do you live in the area?
Just sick of seeing people I agree with 99% of the time trash my hometown and my little D2 hometown school lol. Yeah I'll be there, I have lived here my entire life haha. (17 yrs)
I was going to suggest we grab a beer or two at the Wooden Nickel (or somewhere else) after the game but I guess that's not possible, lol.
Regardless, it'll be weird to see people wearing Michigan stuff tomorrow wondering if it's an MGoBlogger. Hell, maybe I saw you tonight and didn't even know it.
In a few years time..yes lol. Hunwick will be back tomorrow correct?
Oh wow.. Hunwick is OUT tomorrow.
would Hunwick be out? He got a misconduct, not a DQ, I doubt Red's going to sit him, there's nothing on MGoBlue, or the Michgan Hockey facebook or twitter about him being out tomorrow... Unless the CCHA hands something extra out and nothing is on the CCHA website yet, Hunwick should be playing tomorow.
Where did you get this from? The most credible source for Michigan hockey news out there says Hunwick is in...
According to the Daily article just posted,
The referees needed several minutes to sort out the mayhem and many more to sort out the penalties. They ejected Hunwick, Moffatt and Cherniwchan and gave Seckel a double-minor for boarding. The status of all three ejected players for tomorrow’s game will be decided by CCHA officials.
whether you are saying Hunwick is already suspended for tomorrow or if you're just adding to information, but I read that as Hunwick, Moffatt and NMU were ejected Friday and their status for Saturday will be decided by CCHA officials. I'm not sure how that makes any sense though, because as far as I know Moffatt and the NMU guy are gone for sure for the Saturday game courtesy of their game DQs while Hunwick would have to be given a separate suspension for Saturday as a Misconduct does not carry an automatic one extra game suspension like the DQ's (automatic for fighting in NCAA hockey) do.
I was providing info with a source, and my interpretation is that Hunwick isn't out, though the CCHA could change that.
But the wording is odd, as Moffatt and Cherniwchan are automatically out, as you say.
It was crazy last night in the press box. First it was announced as a misconduct, but then the live stats page listed it as a fighting penalty (which would carry a game DQ). Then it got changed to misconduct.
Then CCHA commish Fred Pletsch, who was at the game, started looking at the video. During the second intermission he told the Michigan officials next to me "Hunwick's out." After Fred left, I double checked with them that I heard that correctly and they said yes and that it was changed to a fighting penaltly.
After the game I talk to one of the Michigan guys again and he now said Shawn was in for Saturday, that it was a misconduct and Pletsch just mixed up the penalties when talking to them. Pletsch thought Hunwick got the DQ and Luke Moffatt the misconduct, when it was the other way around.
So now we were under the impression Hunwick was back in. After interviews I went back to the press box and tried to find Pletsch so I could get some official offical word on it, but he was MIA. Then NMU sports info told us officially it's a game misconduct, so Hunwick is available tonight. However, they said, all game misconducts are reviewed by the league and the CCHA could slap a suspension on him. By the end of the night I think we decided to basically put a disclaimer that any article mentioning Hunwick's status may not be accurate by morning.
So as of Saturday morning, Hunwick is in, Moffatt is out, and Andrew Cherniwchan is out for NMU. I'm not sure why the Daily wrote their status will be decided by CCHA officials. There's nothing to decide in the case of Moffatt and Cherni. A game DQ is an automatic suspension. They're out. Moffatt will also have to be a bit more careful in these situations going forward, too, as each additional game DQ adds another game to your suspension, so if he should get another one this season he'd miss the next two games.
He punched someone!!
He should be suspended!
He should be banned!
He should be charged with attempt of MURDER!!!
Damn these thugs on our thug hockey program!
Local news said he would be out, it is possible they misspoke and were thinking of Chernie and Moffatt
I googled it, looked on mgoblue.com, uscho.com and ccha.com but didnt see anything. What is the best source for college hockey info? For football and basketball, I just come here but not sure hockey gets the same attention.
it's noon and still nothing on the CCHA website about any suspensions to Hunwick. I'm going to take no news as good news, they're probably not going to publish an article saying "Shawn Hunwick will not receive an additional suspension" becaue that should be the assumption. I've seen the CCHA suspend people before, but I never really paid enough attention to notice when they announced the additional games, but for my sanity, I'm just going to assume that since there's nothing yet, and both Pletch and Piotrowski (CCHA commish and head of officials) were at the game last night, that there isn't going to be anything.
Please don't let there be anything...
EDIT: USCHO is going to cover most things college hockey in general, if you're looking for Michgian hockey, try:

on twitter, Hunwick is definitely IN tonight (http://twitter.com/#!/YostBuilt) but I do not know where he's getting that information from...
