Nix Reinstated; Suspension Unclear
Title sums it up. MSU center Derrick Nix was reinstated to MSU's basketball program assuming he adheres to Izzo's unannounced "standards" for his return. Apparently in the last two weeks, Izzo didn't take the time to decide if a suspension was appropriate for his player, who was caught driving while impaired under the influence of an illegal drug.
Classic
One day, something that Izzo does will actually stick to him and affect his reputation. He reminds me of Jim Tressel in that way. Both can come across as likable, sincere guys, so there's this weird reluctance from the media (and even fans) to challenge them on anything.
the details are being kept fuzzy so that you won't laugh at them.
Today must be "No Punishment Day". First the Webber stuff, now this. I wonder what would happen if I decided to break some rules?
I certainly don't. With or without Nix playing for little brother, the conference is ours to lose.
Apparently you haven't looked over Indiana's squad.
I just don't get it. I live in EL...and they were giving me crap about Stonum last fall...now this? I don't know how Izzo gets away with it....
All you have to do to be beloved in EL is to beat Michigan, and if that fails, talk smack about Michigan, and there's nothing you can't get away with.

Prior to today's news, of course. Some highlights -
The situations aren't dissimilar, though, from a media and fan perspective, the advancement of the internet age has made us even more carnivorous (This is the seventh story we've done on Nix since his arrest last week.).
Fourteen years ago, Cleaves and Hutson each missed one half of one game at Wisconsin. Any more and Izzo would probably have one less Big Ten title. The Spartans trailed the Badgers by seven at halftime (before Cleaves checked in) and won by nine.
The punishment seemed a bit soft then (though it also came with Izzo-ordered community service). While this incident is more serious — Nix is alleged to have been driving somewhat impaired — and it's possible Izzo has hardened over time, the jump from one half of basketball missed to outright dismissal from the program seems like a heck of a leap.
Thanks for proving the author right Izzo.
While some may not agree that this was the right move, we cannot state the UM has set the precidence in these matters for those to follow.
We had some quality guys on the team for a while. Grady, LaTerryal "My Pants are Open" Savoy, and Carson "Where are the Nerds" Butler.
If somebody does something at Michigan, they get kicked out. If somebody does something at State, they get reinstated.
To be fair we give our guys 2nd chances too, just that MSU ,specifically Dantonio, likes to give 3rd and 4th chances and/or a 1/2 game suspension.

Stonum....
If you take a glance at Joe Rexrode's Twitter feed it sounds like Izzo was quite an embarrassment, as he threatened to fistfight anyone who made a big deal about the car. I am not really sure why MSM adores the little troll so much.
And why is the "brother's girlfriend" explanation being taken at face value? A little digging there wouldn't hurt - Izzo's fistfight tantrum just makes me more suspicious.

And according to Rexrode, the police report, that included the registration, said that the vehicle was a 2011 Charger. He said if you run the VIN that it comes back as a 2007? So the arresting officer misread the registration AND the VIN when he ran the car?
It's a mini-Tressel situation. The media puts too much trust into Izzo.
That's one instance. Feagan was kicked out, and every member of their football team has been given at least 3 chances.

Everyone violently involved with Rather Hall, which is really the one incident that has stood out since Dantonio arrived, was dismissed from the team. There were several (iirc 5-6 players, maybe a couple less) that were booted altogether.

the circle of trust.
Did anyone really expect anything different? Dantonio and Izzo have the same set of "rules:"
"If you are good enough to start, we will find a way to get you on the floor or field, even if it involves going from jumpsuit orange to green and white on the same day. If, however, you aren't that good, you are outta here faster than Lindsay Lohan can get from the rehab facility to a bar."
Just like Chris Allen and Korie Lucious, right?

Sorry, you mispelled "every coach across the country, including Hoke."

hey, every program (including our own) has idiots. the question is how you deal with them when you find out...and i guess i don't see why this is such a big deal. he got caught doing something stupid (and, it should be said, relatively minor), pissed off his coach, and will probably run some steps in addition to whatever the legal system decides to do with him. isn't that, you know, pretty much what happens to most people in this circumstance?
if he does it again, or repeatedly, or if it becomes clear that it's part of a larger pattern of other stuff, then i will probably change my mind. until then, though, i say "meh."
I'm not sure that this situation merits a dismissal from the team, but I hope that Nix makes the most of his second chance.

LOTTA stones being thrown around here today.... why don't we just wait and see what happens with Furman before laughing at MSU, eh?

And I don't understand the OP's "suspension" comment... Nix was immediately suspended by Izzo so I'm not sure where you coming from saying that in two weeks Izzo hadn't decided anything or thought about anything. He handled that part of it immediately and by all accounts Nix has been working his butt off to get back on the team.
*shrug*
For the last three weeks, which is as far back as the site will allow me to look right now, every single one of your posts has been defending MSU in some way or another, yet you keep referring to Michigan as "we." If you're a Sparty fan that is fine, but please don't pretend to be a Michigan fan on here. There are plenty of rival fans on this board who get treated respectfully if they act reasonable.
Completely agree on "beachbum".

Just curious does anyone have a list of the MSU players arrested and their suspensions?
