NIT Rooting Interests Thread

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Obviously all of these games are very important for Michigan's NIT hopes, but 3 NCAA bids will be up for grabs tonight.

Here's the slate. 3 set to tip off now.

Conf. Match up Time/Network
CAA Champ. 1 William & Mary vs. 3 Northeastern LOST 72-61
SoCon Champ. 1 Wofford vs. 10 Furman WON 67-64
Summit Semis 1 S. Dakota St. vs. 5 S. Dakota WON 78-65
MAAC Champ. 1 Iona vs. 3 Manhattan LOST

We need the 1 seeds to win, obviously.

Furman is 11-21. They upset 3 seed Mercer to get to the SoCon Tournament Championship.

Pretty incredible run they have had. Let's hope it ends tonight.

There are 29 guaranteed NIT bids left. Anytime a 1 seed in these mid-majors tournaments lose, another NIT bid disappears.

I doubt all four of the 1 seeds will win, that never seems to happen in these tournaments. Manhattan has been good the last couple years, and gave Louisville all it could handle in the tournament last year. My bet is that they get the W here.

Ultimately, I don't think it makes a huge difference one way or the other if they make the NIT. I can envision a circumstance in which Michigan beats Wisconsin in the tournament, especially if Dawkins has another big game.

I think the only people watching these games have a gambling problem.

Seriously, if we don't beat Illinois this is moot and I think it is a toss up game.

That's not quite true.

If there aren't a large number of NIT auto-bids, Michigan can still get into the NIT. Right now they're projected as a 6 seed with 4 auto bids in. DRatings is assuming W&M will lose.

That can also change. Murray State can still get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament with their 27-9 record.

Root for W&M because we've never been to the Big Dance, one of 5 original D1 teams. It'd be a huge accomplishment for this program and a milestone in CBB history.

Wofford and Furman tied at 36-36 at halftime.

South Dakota State flying high against their rivals from Vermillion, up 43-23 with under 3 to play before half.

Nit is nit we won it in 04 didn't mean much it's like winning the outback bowl. Nice for a few days but no one really remembers it. Again I hope they make it would be more practice for the team to build for next year

Northeastern can't miss from 3 :( always the bridesmaid, never the bride. I just hope I won't have to cheer on my Tribe against my Wolverines.

I was watching while playing bar trivia, so I looked up and with like 4 mins to go, William & Mary was down more than 20. Then I looked up and with 36 seconds to go, they were only down 6. They didn't pull off an amazing comeback, but what the hell happened?

Iona-Manhattan.

A rivalry game for an NCAA Tournament bid featuring one of the most high scoring teams in the nation in Iona.

Also: South Dakota State blows out South Dakota 78-65 to advance to the Summit League Tournament Championship tomorrow at 8pm on ESPN2 against either 2 North Dakota State or 3 Oral Roberts.

Double tech and an additional flagarent foul to Iona's star player AJ English for contact to the head in a scrum. Iona down 12 with 5:16 in the first half.

Both teams qualify for a bonus and Iona in the double bonus. Refs taking every attempt to blow the whistle.
