Nike: what do you want to see from them?

Submitted by the Glove on
Now that it is official what do you hope to see out of Nike? Are there any designs from the past that you would like to see returned or are there things from the modern era you would like to see included, such as the navy panits? Please do not bring up the shade of maize. Many of us just agree to disagree on that topic. I for one am a traditionalist but would love to see the return of the Nike holograms to the shoulder pads that were worn in 95-96. Below is a photo of a Jarrett Irons jersey that I have from when I was a kid. http://imgur.com/a/ZowhH

Glad you were pulling an obvious " /s" on that entire post.

Otherwise I'd have to post that I'd rather slap 'trojan head' stickers over the wings on our helmet than have some 'Maize on Maize' design perversion.  I'm just glad I don't have to post such a thing.  amirite?

1) Cotton hoodies/crewneck sweatshirts that say 'Michigan Football' in our normal font with a swoosh. It is amazing how adidas screwed up the most basic designs by trying to be edgy. Classic is timeless. It sells. Don't mess with it by adding extra stripes or other nonsense. Make high quality basic pieces, and let the kids eat up the more exotic stuff.

2) You'll notice the first word for #1 begins with 'Cotton' - I looked at Tenneesee's athletic apparel site (http://shop.utsports.com/) and was disappointed to see that many of the hoodies/crewneck sweatshirts are polyester. Polyester sucks. If I'm going to drop $60-70 on a hoodie, it better be made with at least 70% cotton.

3) These home jerseys - use the same design from the 1995 season;

Subtle, classy. Only those looking for the M could see it.

Use the 1999/2000 away jersey (but move the swoosh to the left shoulder-

Do these three things, and I could live with a 'uniformz' jersey they wear once a year during a night game.

I've always liked the Block M on the sleeves. That with a classic look with very little piping and I'll be a happy panda.

With a brand like Nike I'd like to see a massive 1 month splurge of say 14 football recruits in 30 days.

Adidas held us back from such things so thankfully we have a brand that kids like so they will actually consider Michigan in the future unlike now.

any uniform from 96-03 and I'm cool. When it comes to jerseyz, they'll want to try things but it's up to us to decide what is ok to wear. IMO, no more than once a year (never in bowl games if the home team) we can wear some slight alternate. If "bumblebee" was an 8 out of 10 - scale is not about quality but distance from original - then nothing more than a 2/3. I'd actually love home unis that were straight up dark navy, knee high dark socks, dark cleats & a basic or darkened matte helmet. The away unis being the same but white being used life the home blue with very minimal maize piping. Finally, larger numbers on both unis. Seems odd but I'd like the numbers back to when UM & osu both had huge numbers but osu kept them. Go back to that or the opposite and make them smaller, very minimalist. Basically remind everyone that Michigan is Maize & Blue but that what really makes our unis is the helmet. I'd even be ok going back old-school with the helmets by avoiding any matte, chrome, etc & having stickers. Never "clean" the helmets, leave the chipping and paint trading on them all year unless it ruins the wing. In fact, maybe only repaint them after a loss.....almost like a psychological punishment. How boss would those unis look st the end of the year with helmets that are just beat to shit? the way I see it in my head looks awesome lol.

Nike Michigan shirt that had Michigan Football, engineered to exact specifications! I hope they remake this one since I'm a BSE graduate. I really liked that shirt!

What I want to see with Nike:  Maize (real Maize) and Blue jerseys done in classy style, black shoes and swooshes, red roses and glittering National Trophies.  But that's just me.

Just basic, no-frills stuff that is comfy and fits well. Adidas crew neck collars are too narrow for my thick neck (I'm 5'7 and 150 lbs so I wear a size small but my neck is almost 16"), the short sleeves are usually too baggy, the tank tops are too long, and the hoodies all make me look fat. I would love a plain blue or yellow fitted t-shirt with just a block M. Same thing with tank tops - just a solid color with a block M.

I would love to see better academics-oriented apparel too! My favorite Michigan sweatshirt is a solid blue crew neck with just the University of Michigan academic crest in yellow. I get compliments on it all the time and I wish I could find it, but I haven't even seen it in t shirt form in 4 years.
