SIAP: I think Michigan and MSU are the only B1G teams without the B1G logo on the field. Weird.
Night Games Open Thread
Finally something Sparty does I think we can all agree with. The less we see that silly logo the better
I don't want that ugly thing on our field.
and Dayne Crist's career is officially over.
Dong punch for Notre Dame!
Crist fumbles snap at the 2 yard line going in. USC runs it back for a TD
Well once Wisc beats MSU after all this I will have a much better attititude for the B1G Championship game. Looks like they are beatable.
Rees back in
I can't stand Kirk Cousins. I see right through his pretty boy swag.
Douchebag will wake up fat, bald and average, with a hopelessly boring life revolving around alcohol, watching sports, and alcohol, and maybe realize that yeah, I should have tried to get in to Michigan....
post game. If this game keeps up with the mistakes and missed plays. If it stays close (no matter who wins), do you re-evaluate what the Michigan coaching staff has done this year? I.e. compare this week, to last week in the wind. Are you more or less impressed? Thoughts?
Does any one think LSU can be beat?
Alabama certainly can. Oklahoma on a good day. Much of the NFC South would.
1) Jarrett Lee/Jordan Jefferson is still their QB
2) Les Miles is still their coach.
3) They haven't faced an actual starting QB in like a month.
Yes, the Packers, Bills and Lions should be able to take them down.
I hope Gunner Kiel takes note of what happens to 5-star QBs at Notre Dame.
Wilson has all day to throw back there.
So much time...
Jerel Worthy looking injured. Edit: maybe not
Jerel Worthy looking injured. edit: poop my pantaloons
Wisconsin is rolling again, hope they keep it up
Geeze louise. WTHeck is Wilson doing?
Anybody see Stanford just dominating Washington? Not much run defense for either side though. Cardinal averaging 13.1 YPC, Washington 8.3
Coming to grips with the idea that MSU has become a pretty good, if reprehensible, football program.
Did Wilson watch the film of MSU beating up on Denard and get jittery? He's making a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes.
I've never seen so many teams punt from inside the opposing 40-yard-line. I'm referring to the Wisky game. But it's becoming a weird epidemic.
Nice Vet move by Worthy faking that injury and slowing the Wiscy O down a little bit. I would get mad but if your gonna fake it at least make it worth it.
he killed the mo by laying like a slug.
Somehow, whatever team I'm cheering for seems to have crappy special teams.
impressing me at all. I also feel much better about our performance last week.
not me...watching Wilson standing in the pocket makes me sick...
Ugh, how do you not check out of that blitz on 3rd and 5 when the Sparties motion a second guy over there.
Yeesh, MSU gets such great blocking out on the edge from their tackles, tight ends and fullbacks.
Wiscy not getting any points on that last drive may be critical.
those refs correctly call a backward pass.
Maybe we can swap big east refs with big ten refs.
Must be all that piped in music that ND fans made fun of US for after UTLs.
I was wondering about that, they've blared "Crazy Train" on like every Third Down regardless of situation
Notre Dame flare pass was backward and SC recovers on the 18. I think the structure of that play runs that risk given that the tail back was going horizontal starting from behind the QB.
ND just went down another TD on a nice throw by Barkley
I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
I thought Wisconsin was waaaaaaaay better than this.
Wiscy defense has failed badly on 3rd downs.
I'm glad that Cousins and all his receivers are seniors.
Hate Sparty, but they look very good. Another T - up by 14
Martin catches pass on the 15 in open space, only 1 blocker around him and HE MAKES A TOUCHDOWN! Horrible pursuit angles taken by the UW DB's
Also, Bielema deserves that for punting from the 36
Pretty boy prancing like got the invite to a Glee tryout.
Wisconsin looks awful. Luckily for them, the rest of the Leaders Division is collapsing like the World Trade.
Too soon. Try again in a hundred years.
Does it make me a bad person if I laughed at this?
I anticipate all the threads blaming RichRod for Sparty's success.
But never football.
Even after we beat them the last time Lloyd all but said this rivalry was getting real, yo. He knew they finally didn't have a nincompoop running their program. It has more to do with them than us.
But yeah, we could have a contest to pick the first "instate recruiting rabble rabble" post.
Welcome back Fraudgers*. Wisconsin's a bunch of front runners. Hey Bret, waiting for you to run up the score...
There will be no living with little brother if UW can't come back and win
ND having another 4+ int game.
Wisconsin needs to make a big comeback.
You didn't really just make that comparison did you?
Part of me thinks I shouldn't even respond to that it's so stupid. But let's see. Calvin Johnson is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL. BJ Cunningham will be an average NFL receiver. Matthew Stafford was the number one overall draft pick. Kork Coupons is destined for the same fate as every other Sparty NFL QB - career backup.
tearing his QB another one.
P.S. New MSU was gonna score as soon as Herbie said that if they were smart they would move it to the middle of the field.
Rees deserves it.
I dunno if it's too hard to blame him. What on they on now? Like 4 turnovers?
hey...give Marky D credit, the big 10 is down and he is the guy that is running with it right now.
However dirty they are, if they dont get called for it and they win games no sense of changing things.
Two words: Special Teams.
And so glad I don't live in Michigan after this MSU game.
Huge drop right there. He makes that catch, there's plenty of time to force a Sparty 3 and out.
And then they drop a 3rd down conversion....Wisky is killing themselves more than anything else
*Feels foolish for hyping up a Wisconsin blowout*
FAIL!!! Punting when you're down 14 with 10 minutes to go? Bielma doesn't deserve to win this one.
It was the right call. Punting is not always bad.
I will say the fact we looked better against MSU than Wisconsin has is bolstering my thought that Michigan and Sparty are a lot better than we all think.
about last weekend...not much, but a little. I do not feel good about the fact that if Wisconsin had covered I would've hit a 5 team parlay at 24-1...sigh (Also had Clemson, OK St, Oregon, and LSU)
So many mental errors by Wisconsin. Wow.
This is MSU's ceiling, the fall back down shouldnt hurt since it is not that high.
Guys, relax. MSU is just setting themselves up for the biggest "SPARTY NOOOOOO" ever. They are going to win this game and then in the re-match against Wisco for the first ever Big Ten Championship game they are going to lose in epic fashion, watching their hopes and dreams of B10 titles and the Rose Bowl flounder.
MSU has a stranglehold on the division.
Keep throwing MSU. Way to drain that clock.
Another one bites the dust.
if it wasn't already obvious to them, Dantonio should be the #1 pick for HC at OSU -- the ties to the program, the lovefest with the Vest, the hatred of Michigan, it all fits.
I would not look forward to facing Dantonio at OSU but would project (and enjoy) the "return to mediocrity" that it would mean for MSU.
I kind of like MSU being good. The more good rivals we have the better.
I like MSU being a challenge in the Paul Bunyan game but not for the Legends Division B1GC spot. Since I've paid attention to college football they've gotten up for the game against Michigan, but this year andlast? Not used to them competing in the conference, much less nationally.
I don't agree with that reasoning. The more good rivals we have, the harder it is for us to be a national title contender. I'm perfectly fine with our rivals being mediocre.
What's the point of having rivals if they suck?
But I definitely would not enjoy the fact that he would leave State with a winning record against us.
I wouldn't write off Wisconsin tonight just yet.
RUSSELL WILSON BEAST MODE RIGHT ON CUE.
It is imperative that everyone avoid talk radio/97.1/Mike Valenti this week if the Badgers don't pull off the comeback.
I just threw up a little bit in my mouth imagining the dialogue.
I dont even bother with that station during football season...funny part is that even with their success he needs to talk Michigan just to get people to even listen and call in to the show. that is all you need to know about the fanbase of Sparty in this state, no one cares even when they have out of this world success.
Wilson back from the dead!
A football player putting a MSU cheerleader on her back - so early in the evening, too.
Alright Sparty time for a three and out special with 3 throws and 30 seconds off the clock just like that last "drive."
Game just got interesting, would love to hear 97.1 try to justify this; all the fans will be "Well at least we beat Michigan"
Texas Tech 21 Oklahoma 7
Just realized these are great post-padding threads.
is going to cost them the game...arrgh.
FFFUUU PICK THAT SHIT.
No, MSU, I didn't want YOU to pick that shit.
going away. . . I hope.
Edit: Well, heck.
Edit: Well, hey! Great clock mgmt, Sparty!
Some, uh, "interesting" clock management by Dantonio.
No idea why Sparty is throwing so much. But thank you.
The fuck was that, Russell?
It unfortunately looked familiar though.
That was a TP arm punt special.
I'm going to completely ignore that it also reminds me of someone else's arm punts who is nearer and dearer to my heart...
Well this drive is key. Wisconsin has to get a 3 and out
MSU power running is very predictable and ineffective. Line up with TE out wide. Pull in motion and stop behind line. Run behind TE. Three yards
I can't take it this looks vaguely familiar.
1. Nice punt on first down Wilson. 2. Brian Kelly is actively teaching how to turn the ball over. 3. If my wife looks as good as Alex Flanagan when she's 40 I will die a happy man
shades of 4th and 1.....*shudder
what could have been. One stupid play changed the game....sigh
Clutch offense for Sparty. 3 3 and outs in a row now.
It all comes down to this drive... Its going to be a great finish.
Our BTCG hopes come down to this drive...
And the defense responds beautifully. If the O and Special Teams doesn't screw up so much, this game wouldn't be so close
It'll take a comeback to ever hear "Wilson" and "Heisman" in the same sentence again.
And boy, Stanford must BR having fun watching the tv tonight.
Why does my mobile think "be" should be "BR"?
Surprisingly, this is a pretty entertaining game.
These next 4 minutes are really going to show Wilson's Heisman chances (I have no idea how to word that). Or they could just run for 15 yards on every play...
Does anyone know if a rabbit makes a good pet?
Rabbits make good pets because they are gentle.
This post is brought to you in part by Aristotle.
In other news, Wisconsin is about to make this a very interesting game.
Biggest play of the night. 3rd and 9
huge first down pick up
And the Fullback gets it!
What's the record for most comments on a thread on here?
1200 or something for a Michigan hockey game.
I believe it was the open thread for the hockey regional final - close to 1,000 posts.
Who knows but I think several of us have inflated our points totals by about 100 or so
1274 posts. M hockey vs. Miami.
So, yeah, nowhere close.
We'll need a lot of Overtimes.
I think we're in for OT. Unless Wisconsin is trying to save all their timeouts for one last drive (presuming they score)
Anyone else hold their breath while that ball was in the air?
Woooo!!!! What a huge play on 1st and 20!
I hate when a team I don't like (Wisconsin) plays with my emotions like this.
Wow Toon decides to sit all game and then finally make an appearance
Beliema and Dantonio both look like a couple of mirthless pricks.
No more mistakes Wiscy. Is there too much time for Sparty?
how many times has musberger said bring the hammer tonight?
wow this is a great game
Damn that missed XP earlier.
I love it!
OK. Now the Wisconsin D better remain firm.
So what does MSU do? Get a first down and go into OT? Or come out shooting and risk Wisconsin getting ball back? #miracleshappen #spartyNO
And he may choke.
Obviously I hate Sparty a bit more, but Bielema and Dantonio are two sides of the same dirty, classless coin.
That said - this is a great game. Sparty has played a mostly-mistake-free game, and been aggressive in forcing Wiscy's mistakes. But the Badgers have quiteted the crowd, taken their lumps, and still battled back to tie this up. However this ends (and for our sake I hope Wiscy wins), these two are playign like the two best teams in the B1G right now. I'm happy I watched.
3 and out, 3 and out, 3 and out....
Oh the tears would be so delicious...
Wisco going to put him on his back on this drive. They can smell the W.
Damn those 3rd down conversions.
Y U NO RECOVER FUMBLE?
AHAHAHAHAHAH this game is awesome. Spartan Stadium soooo silent. Epic Sparty NOOOOO barely avoided...
So close on the fumble. MSU should give up scoring, and play for OT
And he chokes. Almost gave that one away.
Wow if Wisconsin had recovered and kicked the FG to win that would have been the ultimate Sparty NOOO. But why did wisco take a TO?
I think they're relying on the ultimate Sparty NO! And they get the ball back
Lights are out at the cell block at 10p, so maybe Worthy is amped to stay up late.
ehhh....... i dono about that time out biem
I'm not sure I'd call timeout there if I were Wisconsin.
Edit: a lot.
Don't like these timeouts Bielema.
Wiscy should play for the OT. They have the momentum.
Wisconsin wants the win.
Standby for epic "Sparty, noooo!"
That was an obvious false start
Uh oh. Watch out for little giants
How did the officials miss a false start on that MSU 3rd and 8 conversion? Clear as day.
WHy is Beilama using timeouts? Now MSU has time to win
MSU has one more play, 2 on a short incomplete if they want a FG
stupid Bielema calling TO
Watch the MSU trick play.
This times seven
In Spartans Stadium?
great coverage there. game saving
Didn't see the clock going at first, thought Spartan Bob was back on the job
That's why you never believe the tv clock.
Clock didn't start til the play was over.
now sparty has a chance to set something up. i would do a quick 5 yd out.
SHORT OF END ONE!!!1??
WHAT THE HELL!
That's a TD...
don't think you can overturn that. wow.
Oh balls in my face.
holy crap. I think he gets in there
jesus....sparty def wins. fuck all
just wow. I think he was across, but indisputably. . . . ?
Looks like one to me
Wisconsin, what happened? I leave for a couple of hours and come back to this??
That's a TD.
WOW! The ruling on the field could save Wisconsin on this one.
Holy shit that's a td
Beilema worst coach ever
It appeared to cross the plain.
I think that's six...
man thats close
Not to bat it down. Bat it into the stands.
But the shakey cam may make it too hard to call.
Thats a touchdown.
Edit: called it. Fuck me. Msu's for real and i hate it.
Brief Stewart to Westbrook flashback there...and I'm not so sure this is going to go Sparty's way.
but can it be classifed as "conclusive" since you can never see exactly where the ball is
clearly a TD...not question about it
What the fuck just happened
but can it be classifed as "conclusive" since you can never see exactly where the ball is
EDIT: guess it is
Oh my god
how in the hell can you overturn that.
This is how I feel. It's a pile of people and you truly never see the ball. I would have ruled that the call on the field stands.
Just wow... Holy fucking shit...fuck.
Wow. What the hell Wisconsin.
Bielema those timeouts cost you the game.
Bielema fucked that up. The Board called it. That timeout was a mistake.
Dantonio has officially turned into Les Miles... lucky mother...
I think they said td to avoid couch fires
Gotta give them credit that was a hell of a game, they deserved that win.
That's an insane finish. Thought he crossed the line on first call, so a good one. MSU is catching a hell of a lot of breaks this year; they might actually do something this season.
Totally agreed. Fuck man
Holy freakin crap man. A flippin hail mary and it worked
Although MSU did win, that was an amazing hail mary play
I thought that game was going to OT for sure, but they pulled one out.
Just lost an assload of money - I was betting on a plague of locusts to carry off Bielema and Douchetonio.
worst. ending. ever.
and p.s., B1G officials? I will dispute that call, if you like.
I think we have just seen the two teams who are going to be playing in Indy, which is too bad because Sparty still sucks.
What a game, what an ending. Hat's off to Sparty. I imagine there'll be a rematch in Indianapolis. Michigan's chances at the B1G West are on life support now.
DERPiest game by Wisconsin. That timeout on 3rd and 7 at the MSU 35 or so was super dumb. And then Abromitis mistimes his jump despite being in perfect position to knock it down. Aieeeeee.
Unless you block the punt or get a great return, Bielema's looking at getting the ball back at his own ~25 w/ ~15 seconds left. That's kneel down and go into OT terrirory.
Had it been 3rd & 21 from the Sparty 22, then getting the ball at your ~40 w/ 15 seconds left might have some value. (As we just saw from Sparty.)
If he doesn't, he gets his hands on it, and though I highly doubt he would have had the athletic ability to make that type of twisting catch, it wouldn't have been an easy INT for MSU.
Who knows, maybe Wiscy scores another time if that doesn't happen.
This is Wisconsin's Colorado game, it's going to haunt them forever
Musberger is a Pervert.
I will hate MSU forever. And now Badger fans will join the brigade.
Was that you who said that during the 2010 Fiesta Bowl, when he said something to the effect of "For all the Tostitos?" I wanted to use that as my sig, but I wanted to give credit to the poster.
Pretty sure it crossed the plane, but man, how do you allow Cousins that much time on that play? Clearly, having a bunch of backs deep couldn't save the TD.
The real loser in this matchup are the couches.
Gag. Fine, whatever. Let MSU have one more season of magic and miracles. Their time is running out quickly.
Teams aside, that was one hell of a game
If nothing else, the B1G has the two most exciting endings so far this season, although nothing will top our win over ND.
Wisco started out 14-0 in the first 10 min and was driving down the field before Wilson threw an INT. Give credit to Sparty they rode that pick the whole game.
Didn't Bielema do this shit against them a couple of years ago as well? Turrible...just turrible.
So I guess MSU is just Thug U against us? 0 penalties for the game
I don't understand why defenses don't just start the play with like five guys in the endzone, so they can quickly converge.
My best guess is that they want to prevent a Hook and Lateral situation. If they get the ball untouched in around the 15 yard line who knows what could happen
Maybe, but if it's a shorter throw, the guys in the endzone would have time to run upfield. All they have to do is prevent a TD. The big thing is that you could avoid situations like this one, where about the same number of offensive and defensive players were in the vicinity.
Eddie Brown and Spartan Bob are smiling.
Gotta admit, Kirk Cousins was amazing. MSU won without a penalty. Go figure.
Epic clock managment fail by Bielema.
Thanks for getting out coached Hoke!!! FUCK THIS SUCKS
couldn't watch the whole game, but they just said no penalties on MSU???
Hmmm...Boise is happy.
How were there zero penalties on MSU? No classless late hits?
but pretty amazing that the last 3 games have gone their way. Easily could've gone 0-3 there (with our game probably the biggest stretch there)
Scored 10 on Ohio State and won
Committed a zillion personal fouls and several terrible turnovers and were lucky we couldn't convert
Entered twilight zone against Wisconsin and blocked a punt for a TD, caught Bielema getting excited with timeouts and caught a freakin hail mary
I hope they don't like football there, because their program is using their next 40 years of positive karma in like 2 seasons
Where's the Oklahoma game on?
Some ABC / ESPN network
Thanks they were on ABC but i guess it got moved over after the delay?
ESPN2 if not on your ABC affiliate.
Great timeout, Brent.
I'll tell you one thing.. It's a good night to go to school with the sluttiest girls in the Big10. Big recruiting selling point for the Spartans.
Let's go Nebraska.
Wisky timeouts are worthy of at least several ZOOKS. Might have cost them a title shot. What am idiot (b.b.)
A horrible helmet to helmet they missed that knocked Monte Ball out for a while
Hats off to MSU. God I hope they don't win out.
For those worrying about the division championship chances for UM, let's not forget we are talking about MSU here. They will give away at least a game this year - maybe next week @ NU. Then who knows. What UM needs to do is keep winning.
That said, great game by MSU. I think the 0 penalties thing is a little depressing - they can't control themselves against UM but somehow play above reproach against Wiscy? Still, I take some glee in seeing Bielema, a douche of the highest order, cost himself a perfect season with horrible clock management.
Sparty will lose at Nebraska.
a) "pretty sure it crossed" is not indisputable
b) why would you call the 3rd TO
c) on the 3rd and 8 there was such obvious illegal procedure, I don't get it.
d) if I were a Badger fan I would be really looking forward to the rematch. If the break go 8-1 in favor of Spartie, that's a win for Wiscy
Earlier in the drive refs didn't call MSU jump offsides
The TD play was too close to overturn. But he probably did cross
Horrible clock mgmt by both teams
Michigan Sparty and Wisc all have 1 loss
If there is an MSU/Wisco rematch in Indy this year, you know Wisco is gonna all fired up after a loss like that.
Anyone notice that espn3 is a few seconds ahead of espn2's coverage? Maybe there's no boob delay on the internet.
This hurts but we're not out of it yet. Though this hurts a lot. We need Iowa, Northwestern, and/or Nebraska to play their butts off against MSU.
Got to tip the hat but wow.
Bielema has to eat this shit sandwich for the rest of his life
That if we win out the rest of the year we won't win our division because of one stupid game and one bad 4th down call... This season is basically over now unless they lose to neb and iowa... Yea won't hold my breath!!!! Thanks a lot Bret you arrogant FUCK
It was fun watching this game with you guys and gals.
OU went 3 and out and Texas Tech just scored by picking on a newbie at corner..
You know if OU loses tonight, and MSU somehow wins out then they could find themselves in a BCS spot regardless of if they win the BTCG or not
Also Texas Tech just threw a Double pass. We need to bring that back
Big 12 will get one. The SEC gets one. Boise State gets one, leaving one left. Notre Dame is out, and the Big East is out. So, it'll be the Big 10, Pac-12 and ACC fighting for one spot. 11-2 would definitely be competitive, but I prefer to "worry" about that later.
TT is just manhandling them
That was a bad read by the TT qb on the 4th and 1. He had the edge.
OU is back in the game with the entire 4th Quarter. I'm gonna regret this in the morning when I have to be at work
