Submitted by Wolverine96 on
Via Angelique and Twitter: "UM has 2:30 presser today to discuss "football scheduling announcement with Notre Dame" looks like night game at UM in 2011." My liver hurts already.

And U-M is instantly a front-runner for where I'm going to grad school so I could continue to get student tickets in 2011...just kidding, of course. But seriously...woo night game?!

Some people might consider it a cherished tradition, and as a non-alum maybe I don't quite get it, but I gotta tell ya.....night games are the shit. The alumni might be mixed about it, but one night game is all it'll take and the students will be onboard and lovin' it.

Maybe it isn't a night game but an announcement that they will be dropping the ND series and taking on all SEC comers (ultimately lending itself nicely to the MI = SEC CHAMPS shirt?) Not sayin' just sayin'...

Good Lord, just when you think it can't get any better, something like this happens. My move back East from Texas just gets better and better. Now if i can only get my wife to move to A2, any Nursing jobs there worth unseating her out of here?

To be honest, I'd prefer a late afternoon game, in late October or early November, against Sparty as a "night game". Since the sun would be setting earlier in the day, at that time of year, the second half would certainly be played under the lights. That said, a night game, in early September, would certainly be cooler for the fans and players (instead of baking in the sun all afternoon).

I'll be the first... Not a fan of the night game, especially for Notre Dame. If we're gonna do it, why not do it to get some hype for some other game like Minnesota or Penn State or Wisconsin. Plus, I'm not looking forward to waiting all day for the game. I love being able to go home after and still watch some football while getting some much needed rest.

Once it happens, everyone will be on board. I've lived in SEC country for a while, and the night games are just unbelievable, it's a night and day (no pun intended) difference. Of course, if the home team gets its ass kicked, it's kind of awkward, but still worth the risk.

...from Brandon:
"This will be an unprecedented game day atmosphere that our fans have not experienced at Michigan Stadium," said Brandon. "It's a great opportunity to showcase our program, university and Ann Arbor to a primetime viewing audience. This also adds a new chapter to the storied rivalry between our two great programs."
and RichRod:
"Our players have always enjoyed playing night games and I think it's something that our fans will truly enjoy and embrace," said Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez. "I expect the atmosphere will be electric for this matchup at the Big House."

This stat has as much to do with the 2011 UM - ND game as the Slippery Rock - Furman rivalry*. I hate when statistics from teams are brought up when they are years old...absolutely no correlation between these teams and the current teams. *I have no idea if this actually exists, but it sounds like it should.

The combo of Brandon/Rodriguez seems to understand how to implement new exciting ideas while keeping all of our beloved traditions intact. Atmosphere is going to be electric, especially with how stacked our 2011 roster is going to be with RR going into his 4th year. Already counting down the days...

Tradition is quite often awesome, and somtimes stale. Winged helpmet? Awesome. Touching the banner? Awesome. Hail to the Victors? Awesome X2. Never having played a night game at the big house? Stale. Here is to hoping that rich rod continues to keep the great traditions, gets rid of the stale ones, and adds a few great traditions of his own. Cheers. (don't have an oppinion on the piped in music. I live too far away. Although I did hear the stadium play that horrible song "Tonights gonna be a good night". What is up with that?)

Rich and Brandon are gonna bring the New Era of Michigan Football back to AA. They get it and understand what it takes for us to be back in the National Chamionship. I can't wait for this game, most of the 100 year old alumni that sit on their hands will be home watching the game in 2011....Go Blue!
