Suck it Saban
Suck it SEC
I LOVE 2014!!!
2nd most points ever allowed by Alabama in a bowl game
Have to say, in looking back at Alabama's schedule from this year, definitely puts the SEC in a major negative light. Anyone with an offense that had a pulse really stuck it to them (A&M, Auburn, Oklahoma). Everyone else they played pretty much sucked at offense.
Yup, lets go FSU. Shut these SEC dick riders up for at least one year.
But, but, but... Alabama is the BESTEST TEAM EVAR!!!!11!!!!
Ya, I really wanna hear Mark May's reaction after predicting Alabama to win 48-10, or something like that.
Why does anyone ever want to hear anything Mark May or Lou Holtz has to say? They are bafoons. Their halftime suggestions were that Alabama has to take care of the ball. Brilliant! Its like saying, "to win, one team has to score more points than the other." They are nothing but empty windbags. The fact that anyone pays attention to them is beyond me. It says more about the quality of thought that attracts us than anything else.
Perhaps that rant means that I paid attention to them. Shit.
For the same reason it was said people listened to Howard Stern back in the day: "I want to hear what he'll say next." Even the people who didn't like him listened for that reason. In the May/Holtz case, the buffoonery is too good to pass up.
Exactly. I, for one, enjoy watching Holtz slobbering like the French mastiff in Turner and Hooch. Probably why May sits so far away from him.
The wife, who has never watched Holtz on TV before, saw him the first time last night. Her reaction was like "How could ESPN, with all the money, hire a mumbling funny old talker like him?" I was like, "Darling, his sole purpose of existence has been debated by so many people but no one truly understands it. In the end, we all agree that it is the greatest mystery of our time."
My wife asked why he is orange.
put together, so it just goes to show that it is hard to go on ESPN and sound intelligent. I agree that he doesn't sound insightful, so, because obviously he knows tons about football, logically it must be difficult There are very few that seem able to do so.
and he has arguably the best D talent in the country. Makes that loss a little bittersweet.
Yup, Alabama's defense really wasn't very good this year. If Auburn loses, the SEC ends up looking very average this year. Awesome.
Saban will not sleep for one single second this offseason. All part of The Process.
I honestly thought he was gonna have an aneurysm yelling at the refs there at the end. LOL
He never sleeps anyway. This year it's about inventing a time machine so he can spend twice as much time preparing.
Don't forget Jerry Montgomery was the coach of that DL. The one that tore up the vaunted Alabama OL for 7 sacks.
He left in 2013 though, so that's all that counts right???
Oklahoma had 26 sacks on the year before they racked up 7 against Bama. Michigan had 25.
Not knocking what was a great performance, but their pass rush was a liability all season.
Ya rat bastard you scumbag u cheating bitch love it 7 million bitch
Sidenote: Stoops is only coach to have won all 4 BCS bowls (in the era...maybe ever?!)
I think he did it also
Yes he did... both have also won the Cotton, which was a major bowl in Paterno's day and will be again starting next year.
there aren't a lot of other options as before the BCS era you'd have to have coached an independent AND a B1G or Pac-8/10 team to check them all off
has won all 4. just not in the BCS era.
Correct, but Coach Stoops is the key.
The point above about Paterno maybe having won all four through his career could be correct too, something I might be taking a half hour to figure out (i.e. what coaches have done this "feat").
Bo also had the chance to win all 4 himself... coming up a combined 10 points short of checking off all four
he has lost two in a row - he sucks!
I can't wait to hear what Bama fans' excuse will be for this beating! The PI call, even though it was a mugging?
THE EVIL EMPIRE HAS FALLEN
Not since 1/6/2006 at Vail.
Like this but with more metal.
Damn dude I am just about to start skiing again and you must post this?!?!?!
Saban didn't exeute. It's time for Alabama to make a change.
And now Nick is off to Texas for 10 mil lol
My thoughts exactly
I'm just happy Dave Brandon didn't schedule Bama for the first game of 2014. I'm taking Alabama -113 over West Virginia
You got action here. I'll even take WV with only +50
There's a lot of suckas on this board...
I'm not one for schadenfreude normally, but the nation needs, nay deserves this.
Nick Saban better get on his players' dicks this offseason.
I just had to search what this meant. Thanks for the laugh.
Mind explaining? I don't want to search "dicks" on google.
Watch the clip man. Google Amir Williams and its right there.
I just searched Amir Williams and it was the first thing that came up. It really is one of though things where you have to watch it. But basically this reporter asks Amir Williams(OSU basketball player) about his performance. Williams says, "coach has been riding my dick uhhhh back lately."
Here just watch this:
After Bama shoot-out with A&M, he said SEC defense in past years was just from then not facing good QBs like they have in the Big 12 for years.
Put his money where his mouth is tonight.
It has just been the SEC bullshit machine. League has a lack of elite QB's? Well then just talk about how great the defense is! No one self-promotes better than the SEC.
It isn't all self promotion. They have a lot of support from ESECPN and Drew Sharp. There were also many on this board talking about SEC superiority. It is clear they are not as far ahead as the hype would indicate.
This doesn't change the fact that an SEC team has won 7 MNCs in a row, and they've done pretty well against other conferences overall.
I'm as tired of the SEC as the next person, but it's not all empty hype.
introduce logic to cloud over the SEC SUCKS parade?
What kind of bullshit sensationalism is this? No one said they sucked pal - and a lot of the comments in this "parade" regarding schedules and OOC games are perfectly logical. Go watch another round of ESPN.
They've been pretty underwhelming in out of conference play this year, though. In terms of this year, the SEC is just an average conference.
About 75% of winning the MNC in the BCS era is getting voted into the title game. And what does that involve? Yep, self-promotion. Yeah, you have to have at least one team from your conference that has 0 or 1 loss, but most conference have that. I don't deny the SEC has done well in the actual game. But when the game gets set up for them on a platter like two years ago year (Alabama vs LSU) how can they NOT win the MNC? It was utterly ridiculous that either Oklahoma State or Stanford wasn't in that title game instead of Alabama.
There is only one explanation...that was not the real Nick Saban...the real Nick Saban is in Texas
It didn't look like him in the postgame interview either. Looked like he was missing too much hair on the top of his head. Could be a lot of it laying on the field from him trying to pull it all out.
Let's hope Les Miles isn't around...might mistake it for a blade of grass
I noticed his hair also. But, more for the color. I thought it must be totally grey/gray, but he has to color it so he looks younger and immortal to recruits so they think he will be coaching Alabama forever. #justformen
It's not like we were able to get to McCarron when he was our d-line coach 2 seasons ago. He's a good coach but you need talent on the d-line to execute pass rush and run stop schemes.
And they brought multiple linebackers (and corners on occasions) to get extra pressure on McCarron... Most of the pressure wasn't a result of the d-line. When it was, McCarron was taking 5-6 seconds to try and find receivers downfield while in the pocket and was buried under pressure like any other QB would be after stalling in the pocket
difference at Michigan he wasnt coaching the entire DLine just a position on the line but I agree u need to have talent
My early favorite for Non-Michigan thread title of the year.
I never create threads on here, but as soon as it popped into my head I hurried to get it posted before anyone else thought of it.
"Over-rated" chant at the end. This was a good way to start the new year in sports. I actually want OSU and FSU to win to prop up the B1G more and knock down the SEC. We don't need 2 of 4 in the playoff from that conference next year
Thank God... A little quiet in the south about the "strength" of the SEC at least until the NC... Now to shut them up completely, FSU (and Oklahoma St.).
This is a good laugh if you want to see an angry SEC fan before the game saying Stoops will regret his words. Some of my favorite Bob Stoops quotes that were included in the above article:
“I still don’t know how (Texas) A&M was third in the country in total offense and scoring offense playing all those SEC defenses. I have no idea how that happened,” Stoops said. “Oh, they got a quarterback. That’s right.”
“Just a few years ago, we had all the quarterbacks,” Stoops said in a small session with beat reporters, according to The Oklahoman. “And now, all of a sudden, we can play a little better defense and some other people can’t play defense.”
“It depends on who you want to listen to,” Stoops said. “Listen, they’ve had the best team in college football, meaning they’ve won the national championship. That doesn’t mean everything else is always the best.”
“So you’re listening to a lot of propaganda that gets fed out to you,” he said. “You’re more than smart enough to figure it out. Again, you can look at the top two, three, four, five, six teams, and you can look at the bottom six, seven, eight, whatever they are. How well are they all doing?
“What’d we (the Big 12) have, eight of 10 teams in bowl games this year? Again, you figure it all out.”
Saban added that he "really likes Stoops" but added that "people who don't play in our league (SEC) ... don't understand how tough it is."
it's also amazing how moving to the SEC improved A&M and MIzzou so much, so quickly.
Putting that gigantic SEC patch on your jersey makes you instantly faster.
Did anyone else feel like AJ resembled this kid with his chin strap strapped a bit too tight?
(on my phone and can't imbed)
it was so damn distracting. He cheecks and chin smashed together to form an assface. I bet that LSU Freek guy will come up with something.
It also won the last two national titles.
of MANBALL is running the football ANY freaking time you want. That definition would put Stanford as the ultimate MANBALL team in college fottball in 2013 ... and they lost.
Sparty won by throwing the football as Cook had a career game .... so how is that MANBALL?
To me, MANBALL is having a dominant line on each side of the ball and running a two-back / multi-TE pro style offense. Very tough to run when the two weakest links of your team are the o-line and d-line, respectively.
Did anyone see AJ's girlfriend's reaction when he got sacked and fumbled at the end? It was a glorious sight to behold, indeed.
There's a GIF of her reaction on SB Nation which is much better because it captures the emotion of her and those around her, but I dont know how to embed it.
Here you go:
poor old Brent Musburger.
HahaHAAAAA!! I could watch this all day!!
That's gotta be pretty awesome, if you're an ESPN cameraman and you get the "Hot Girl Cam"
I agree with Lou Holtz...AJ's mom is hot hot hot.
I agree. She is a nice looking woman.
Thank you Phork
I think I flipped off the TV when they showed these two last night.
Love the half surrender cobra.
So. Much. Schadenfreude.
Tonight was a big blow to the SEC.
I hope that one day we get to the point when 11-2 and 10-3 seasons are our bad years like Alabama.
Don't get me wrong, anything less than 9 wins (depending on youth/depth) is extremely disappointing, but to me being pissy about 10-11 wins just isn't healthy, and it takes the fun out of college football. Despite the run they've had recently, there's probably people in Alabama that are on suicide watch now.
by 5pm tomorrow. I'll say 5,000.
Uhhhh no. The AD will get zero messages. Maybe two, there's always crazy people in Alabama.
Hmm where's the congrats Oklahoma thread? I was told it made you a douchebag to not have a 500 ass kissing thread towards other teams.
Didn't care who won, just glad Bama lost and that the devil didn't hold up his end of whatever bargain he made with Saban.
Always knows what's written in the fine print better than his client does.
team since I was like eight years old. Too bad I had to hit the hay by halftime and couldn't watch it all.
I'll say this, the Sooners looked every bit as fast and athletic as Bama.
As I recall, it has been maybe four or five years since Alabama lost two in a row, and what a way to go out indeed this season.
All that is left is for Alabama's final ranking to be revealed. You might have an entire fanbase sporting the expression of A.J. McCarron's girlfriend.
Their final ranking should be outside the top 10 and possibly behind 4 other SEC teams (Auburn, Mizzou, SC, and LSU). Too many blowhards in the press to let that happen though. They'll probably finish #8-9.
If we spent some time traveling around Alabama we'd see the proportion of cute in that fanbase is maybe not so high.
If you got hate in your heart, let it out.
was completely reshuffled: RT never played tackle before; LT from RT and LG first start. Could it be coaching?
To be fair, and I think everyone seems to be forgetting this, I think our OL coaching seemed to look fine against Ohio State. The players ability and the coaching is there. Consistency throughou an entire season is what we're looking for.
I love it. SEC sucks
Loved seeing Saban get beat
Saban tears....I love it.
Hate the SEC! SEC! SEC!
Love the fact Saban is a constant reminder to Lil' Bro they aren't a destination. It still stings with them.
Alabama was favored by 16 going into that game? I mean, Jesus H. Christ, I get it they're good but that's ridiculous.
Eh, his team still smashed ours in 2012, so I don't think we can really say anything.
They also won a national championship by a score almost identical to the score against us, versus a team that needed 6-7 turnovers to beat us. So, we have that.
Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! Spock, my friend, you say crap like this in every thread. New thoughts, we need new thoughts.
New thoughts? That wouldn't be.....logical, Captain.
Did I hear correctly that Oklahoma had a make-shift O-line for this game? Weird how a coach had a few weeks to prepare and put together a game plan like that.
Wonder if Stoops would ever leave OK?
How do you sleep at night?"
Saban: "On top of a pile of money, surrounded by many beautiful ladies."
Reporter: "Just asking. Yeesh."
Whether ESPN likes it or not, the SEC has taken a massive hit in the last two years during the bowl games. Yes, Alabama blew out Notre Dame last year in the title, but Florida also got embarrassed by Louisville and LSU lost to Clemson. Sure, that is a good year since you win the title, but it at least puts some of the conference in a questionable light with two of the better teams going down. Plus, a bunch of teams underperformed and nearly went down in the lower bowls.
This year, a few of the SEC teams have performed well, but the lower bowls have been mixed at best. Some teams like Mississippi State played very well, but then teams like Georgia go down to Nebraska and though LSU beat Iowa, it wasn't nearly as convincing a win as many thought would happen before the season. For a conference that is so "dominant," it doesn't add up for some many of these teams to barely beat equal/lesser teams from other conferences.
Finally, Alabama getting upset as a 17(!!!) point favorite last night was a major hit. If Auburn goes down on Monday as most expect, I can't see how people can still argue that the SEC has control over college football anymore. Even if they're still in the lead (highly debateable), it's very, very slight.
Plus look at the differences in records and rankings going into the bowls:
Team Ranking Record Score
Wisconsin 19 9-3 24
S. Carolina 9 10-2 34
Iowa UR 8-4 14
LSU 16 9-3 21
Nebraska UR 8-4 24
UGA 22 8-4 19
B1G teams were at a definitive disadvantage when looking at these numbers, not to mention playing much further away from home. Yet they still held their own despite being outmatched on paper.
I'm willing to bet that in almost every SEC bowl game so far, the underdog covered the spread. Maybe that doesn't equate to a win, especially to people who don't really follow the sport, but that has to at least be a ding in the armor added to the BCS embarrassment Alabama had last night.
This is one thing that pisses me off about the bowls. For example, a lot of people consider the PAC 12 the second best conference. But when I look at our bowl slate compared to theirs it's laughable. PAC 12 teams got to face teams like BYU, Fresno, Boise, Colorado State, BC, etc. At the same time, the B1G is playing 5 SEC teams and people wonder why our bowl record sucks.
I hope that one day we have a new system where the committee not only decides the playoff matchup but also decides the other bowls. It think that would make for better games, more excitement, and a more equal distribution.
lost two games in a row at Alabama he made Tim Tebow cry the next year on the way to winning three of the next four national championships.
and quick last night. I don't think Alabama was ready for that shit.
Congrats to that crazy ten team Big 12 for showing the former Purdon't QB Gary Danielson that all is right with the world.
for a bowl game. Call it the Wolverine Bowl or something.
We'll see who dominates, Gary!
Go read this right now - Bob Stoops was just trolling Bama
is the "other" Brian. he is an awesome writer. thanks for the link...
Roll (over and die) Tide!
any thread that celebrates a Saban loss. I'm so sick of hearing about how great Alabama is, how great the SEC is, etc. ESPN was already annoying about the SEC, but they are even more annoying now with their "SEC network" bullshit commercials. I'm glad to see Bama and the SEC lose.
He bet millions on OU. Now with his winnings he has the cash to pay his players for the next 10 years.
Can we finally get ESPN to talk about how the SEC is overrated? Please! You know it's true and you are a big reason for it.
I thought I heard that on TV.
I rather enjoy watching dynasties as they're happening. This is why I've never had a problem with Bama, the Heat, etc.
If Auburn wins and SEC makes it 8 in a row... then, the sucky SEC defenses don't really matter, the conference is still the best. Like, in the B1G, there are 11 sucky defenses but also MSU's.
For that matter -- if this year was next year and Sparty was in the 4 team playoff -- doesn't everyone agree, they'd have a fighting chance to win it. They have the best D in the entire country.
It's just ESPN, since they got the exclusive rights to the SEC, it's SEC this and SEC that. Players from the SEC are "Amazing" or "Smart" but people from Michigan and other schools are "tough" or have "heart". Even during the UA All American Game yesterday, it was "so and so going to Alabama with the tackle" Every SEC commit that did anything got a shout out. Hand even had like a 5 minute special on him and he's not even the best player at his position. They mentioned Peppers quite a bit too, but nothing on the SEC's level. And also don't forget that the SEC really only has like 3 good teams, then they play NOONE else. Bama played almost as many FCS opponents as they did ranked opponents.
This must've been an incredibly sobering moment for a Bama team not accustomed to losing, much less losing two in a row.
Of course, I'd give anything to have a Michigan season where they went 11-2 to be a failure.
