Nice column this afternoon: Webb on Peppers & his Michigan Visit

Submitted by StephenRKass on

There's a nice column by Sam Webb in the Detroit News this afternoon about Jabrill Peppers and his visit to Michigan.

(Michigan scores big on visit from five star CB  Jabrill Peppers.)  LINK:  http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130502/OPINION03/305020471/1131/SPORTS0201/Michigan-scores-big-visit-from-five-star-CB-Jabrill-Peppers

In brief, his visit went very, very, well, and put Michigan up.

"Everything (on the visit) caught me by surprise," admitted Peppers. "It is no secret that I grew up a Michigan fan. Obviously I had high hopes for the visit, but they clearly exceeded those. I was just like, 'Wow.' I don't want to give too much away (laughter), but it was a good visit."

It wasn't a red-carpet treatment that allowed Brady Hoke and Co. to set the visit standard by which others are now being measured. Turns out, it was exact opposite. "Real recognize real," Peppers said matter-of-factly. "That's the shortest and sweetest way you can say it. Real recognize real. They didn't put on a show. Basically who they are — they remind me of my coaches right now. That's how comfortable we felt there.

Jabrill is also very positive on Mattison. He says:

"I love the way Coach Greg Mattison uses his corners and his scheme. It absolutely fits into my style of play — aggressive (and) fearless. He wants his corners to be fearless. If he wants you to go lockup on an island, you had better lockup on that island. If he wants you to come off the edge, you better come off the edge ready to bring some pain."

He added: "The players (at Michigan) were as cool as could be. I don't even really know how to explain it. It is just a feeling you get."

Sam has a lot more to say . . . Obv., Peppers is an incredible talent, which everyone agrees with.  It basically comes down to his visit to Stanford.

That you yourself are unreal.  Observe.

Given that real recognize real, it follows that real does not recognize unreal, as this would render trivial real's recognition of real.

By your own assertion you recognize unreal, thus you cannot yourself be real.

This is unsound logic. If real can recognize real, that means it can distinguish between real and unreal, whereas unreal is unable to make this distinction. Therefore, the poster above, being real himself, was able to recognize that you are unreal, or more specifically, could recognize your lack of real. Not knowing the rules of real is even more evidence of your unrealness.

The definition of recognize is to acknowledge formally (as in to admit as being a lord or sovereign, or more appropriately in this case, to admit as being of a particular status).

Using this to rewrite the two statements gives us, "real acknowledges real as being of a particular status" and "real acknowledges unreal as being of a particular status".  Everything that is not real is unreal, thus if both statements are true it must follow that "real acknowledges everything as being of a particular status" is also true.

But given Michigan and Ohio (both part of everything) we know that everything cannot be of a particular status because Michigan and Ohio are not of the same status.

Thus the statement "real recognize unreal" must be false, because if it were true then everything would be of the same status, including Michigan and Ohio.

You don't think Michigan and Ohio are of the same status, do you?

Let the tradition continue:  D.Cone (David Cone) > JDK and Rey (Jack Kennedy and Joe Reynolds) > J-Reall (Jabrill Peppers)

I don't now he doesn't pick us. Grew up a Michigan fan and was blown away by his visit. I mean Stanford is going to have show him the greatest visit in the history of visits to pull him out there. Don't see that happening.

Stanford is no slouch in recruiting and, of course, schooling. I selfishly wish he just doesn't go, haha. First kid in over a decade that has as many tools as Woodson did coming out of HS. Little bigger so he could easily come in, play any one of 6 positions and thrive. REALLY want this kid at Michigan. That said, would never say or think anything more than "aww, that sucks. Well Good luck to him" if he doesn't come here. Seems like a legit good kid and you can't root against kids like that.

"He compared me to (Woodson) a lot actually, but my goal is that I want to be better than Charles Woodson"

Are there any interviews with and Stanford supporters? I'd be interested to see what he's had to say about them, compared to what he's saying about us, because from the sound of it, he seems like a sure thing to come to Michigan.

Just type in "coach Shaw negative recruits Michigan" and Shaws tweet will be first thing up. He called out the Michigan education and bragged up the 3 straight BCS bowls hinting they are superior in football as well. Could be considered harmless but was definitely juvenile for a coach.

will usually see through that kind of cheap and negative approach to recruiting.  That's probably why he's getting sick of the whole process and wants to move up his schedule for announcing his decision.

I'd love to see a comparison of the two players as prospects at the same stage - Peppers vs. Woodson.  I remember Woodson was a very highly rated player too coming out of H.S.

Something about that "Real recognize real" statement is just another really I really, really like how this staff operates. Without doing much of anything other than being who they are and introducing them to the players and the culture that the staff has created, we have recruits - highly rated ones at that - giving Michigan glowing reviews. It's just another example of how creating this atmosphere as they have can indeed attract the some of the best like Jabrill Peppers. That's probably the most sound way to build a foundation for sustained success.

Also, the prospect of Peppers bringing pain in the secondary is not a bad thought at all.
