NHL Playoffs Open Thread

Some really intriguing games today with three close out opportunities. The one I'm most interested in is the one that starts monentarily: Flyers - Capitals. Let's see if it's the same old Caps: 3-17 in last 17 series-clinching games. Lost 5 playoff series after leading 3-1 (most in NHL history). About the only box they have left to check to further agonize their fanbase is to blow a 3-0 series lead (but they've somehow never lead a series 3-0 before this one). Only 10 teams have ever forced a game 7 after being down 3-0, will the Flyers be next? The other two series have also be unexpectedly fantastic and I'd absolutely welcome game seven in each series.

The problem that Chicago will have, as they have had for the past idk how many years, is that they are always out-hit... always. They are a smoothe stylish skill finesse team. They have a few scrappers in Ladd, Keith, Shaw but the rest of the team attacks the puck too often instead of the player. Fortunately for them this style isn't really working vs the Blues because they have skill players also AND they hit hard, BUT the Hawks' skill players are THAT much better and seasoned than the Blues.

Instead of going for the easy outlet pass to clear the zone, they go for the long stylish lob pass, or blindly leaving the puck behind them to a trailing blackhawk, that gets turned immediately or turned over at the lines giving the Blues a great chance offensively.

Game 6's 2nd and 3rd period they finally slowed it down and made smarter plays.

I had hope today that the Wild would beat the Stars to force a game 7. Good series by them. Dallas is tough.

Before the playoffs started I would have said Dallas VS Chicago WCF and Lightning VS Caps ECF

Chicago vs Washington for the Cup, it wouldn't shock me at all to see any logical combination of those four teams in the Cup Finals.

Hope we make it though. Go Hawks!

Some GM's, coaches and media members who are still stuck in the Dark Ages try to quantify OMG TOUGHNESS!1! like it's the missing ingredient to winning a cup. St Louis has been dominated in this series but were saved by a few wonky goals.and insane Brian Elliott. They spend all night chasing the puck trying to hit and lose the puck possession battle.

I don't know if I'd say it's overrated. Boston had/has a good squad out there hitting and bullying when they had their Cup win and playoff runs lately. LA has the same but their brusing play wore down Chicago (along with that fluke effn goal in game 7 OT) getting them to win the Cups that they've won and their playoff pushes as well. A few other teams just hit hit hit hit to wear down the opponent.

I think that Chicago is just that much better than a lot of these teams when it comes to skill play. Elliott is playing out of his effin mind this series. St. Louis is probably winning in puck possession throughout the series thus far and shots on goal. It's been a great one to watch, if you don't mind pulling out your hair from time to time. Tarasenko is a monster out there as well.

Tonight should be very exciting as will the next series vs Dallas.

Go Hawks!

Minnesota got screwed big time on what would have been the tying goal. That was in when the puck rolled on edge (the beauty of a DVR and slow motion replay). Inexcusable for the NHL to miss that.

Same call happened during the hawks blues game the other day. IDK if it was for the Hawks or the blues but it was a no goal. Kinda odd. I think they said if it's on it's edge it's not fully across or something stupid. I thought that was a good goal against Dallas today.

I was at the X today, they didn't show the nbc replay until after they called it no goal, it lead to a lot of confusion about why it was being reviewed. Then they showed it once, I think the Wild got screwed twice this series. With that week goaltending the Stars are not long for the playoffs.

Dallas looked so good during the regular season. Niemi looked good during the year as well. Sharp and Benn and Tyler (idk if he's going to be out) Fiddler Eaves... The wild are a lot tougher in the playoffs for some reason though. Good series...

Would rather have faced the Wild than the Stars.
